  1. I don't see it as a question of morality, just a simple question of do you want the bass or not? It's too easy to impulse buy these days, but I believe you should have the right to change your mind without feeling guilty. No money has changed hands or item been dispatched, you haven't agreed to meet him then not shown up. The seller can relist with a single click and begrudgingly accept that's what happens from time to time when you sell on eBay. Like many of us, I have on more than one occasion cancelled an order from a shop shortly after ordering, or returned the item after trying it out. That's a lot of inconvenience for a shop, yet seems more socially acceptable here!
  2. Currently digging the DP3X for modern tones and the Aguilar Tonehammer + Agro (which stack together really well) for vintage ones. Don't really need more than that!
  3. I had one and hated it. Good job you didn't listen to me when I said it was cr4p! 😁
  4. Pfft. Tell the seller sorry you don't want it, all he has to do is click a button and relist it for free. If the auction win made you feel a bit sick, that's your gut telling you not to buy it, I'd listen to it. You'll only feel like a plonker if you buy it and you don't really want it.
  5. There will be a B3n in the classifieds very soon! 😉
  6. This was the suggested up next from Youtube, I quite like it:
  7. You certainly are, and one of the best UK rappers to boot!
  8. I don’t know what you’d call those first two, but I wouldn’t call them grime. Grime is more like UK council estate gangsta rap with atonal metal riffs played on a Bontempi organ.
  9. Never had a problem with volume levels either, and I’ve owned most of the range at some point. You just have to wrap your head around the fact the volume control only affects the dirt and not the clean, unlike most other pedals out there. So if you want to raise the master volume, you increase volume and back off the blend. To lower the master volume, back off the volume and increase the blend. The Omega side sounds a bit like a Fuzz Face set to very low gain. I even managed to get a very close replica out of a Line 6 Helix by mixing a HiWatt amp (Alpha side) with a Fuzz Face (Omega side)!
  10. I can recommend the Hotone Bass Press!
  11. I've been in 3 bands, guitarists had 2, 2 and 0 pedals each, whilst I had a board with several! It's not normal though! More down to the fact I was geekier and had more to spend. However I see a lot more bassists using pedals now than ten years ago. Back then it was a rarity, if you ever saw a bassist with a board you could pretty much guarantee they were a BassChatter!
  12. If that’s an octave up fuzz like the old Octavia that Hendrix used to use, it’s not really an octaver. Octave up fuzz is a different beast entirely, and they usually chop off a lot of low end too. Best thing for a Royal Blood type sound is to split your signal and run a digital octave up into a distortion or amp sim. The Ashdown octave effect is more like a traditional octaver that synthesises a note an octave lower than what you are playing. It can still work for a fake guitar & bass sound if you play high up on the neck!
  13. Never returned a bass to Thomann, but I have returned pedals just because I didn't like them and they issued a free return label.
  14. The BB neck is quite slim for a 5, the nut width is the same as a modern 4 string Fender Precision, about 42mm. I started with a Fender P5 and found it far too chunky; I thought I'd be done with 5's, but the BB was a revelation!
  15. Lovely! I'd be tempted if it had an extra string, a rosewood board, and was a different colour.
  16. Rotosound flats are great if you want a string where you can feel the bumps a little more, like a half-round.
  17. The BB Preamp works very well after the Octabvre btw if you're looking for a new drive to try in that spot!
  18. What kind of music are you playing? I agree the DP-3X is the nuts, but only for a certain type of sound. If you want deep fat lows, a grindy aggressive top, and a chasm in the middle to let the other instruments and vocals slot in, it’s amazing. With a heavy rock band you’d be very happy indeed. But if you were playing old school funk, blues, Motown etc, where you just want to sit mainly around the low mids (no super deep lows, no metallic upper grind), with a bit of tubey breakup, it would be totally the wrong tool for the job. I’d put my Aguilar Tonehammer to work there instead. Having spent years faffing with preamp DIs, I’d be happy to keep just these two. But they sound nothing alike. Chalk and cheese!
  19. I’ve had both versions of the Orbit - the new one is better as a fuzz since it has a blend, but unfortunately it doesn’t have the switch that makes it do those laser noises!
  20. Sounds to me like your first impression is you prefer the cheaper bass but understandably want to give the P34 chance to grow on you more? Don’t feel like you have to force yourself to prefer the pro model to justify the purchase. Have you tried the 1024/2024/1025/2025 models at all?
  21. Tried the Diabolik? Best thing for me by far, over the Oxide, Mastotron, Brown Dog and a few others I’ve tried. Also a big fan of the Prunes & Custard, which has a similar sound to the Red Ripper.
  22. I got some great sounds using a Mooer Tender Octave (POG clone) going into a Bass Whammy (for +5th or divebombs etc), into a Joyo American Sound (Fender amp sim), to a TC Mimiq (stereo doubler). I was only messing about at home going into headphones, but the Joyo did a great job at faking the distorted guitar amp and the Mimiq takes it to another level giving a stereo spread, makes it sound huge (although prob unnecessary if you actually have multiple amps on stage)! If you really want to mess with people's heads, add a guitar player that plays basslines through an octave down pedal, Seven Nation Army style.
  23. Same gauge?
  24. I can see them from that link: https://www.dv247.com/en_GB/GBP/Sandberg-Bass-Strings-4-Set-040-100-/art-BAS0004133-000 https://www.dv247.com/en_GB/GBP/Sandberg-Bass-Strings-4-Set-045-105-045-065-085-105-/art-BAS0004134-000 https://www.dv247.com/en_GB/GBP/Sandberg-Bass-Strings-5-Set-040-128-/art-BAS0004135-000
