  1. Single coil hum depends largely on the environment you're playing in. I get barely any hum from my bridge pickup at home, but when I tried a BB at the Yamaha store I noticed a lot - probably due to their lighting.
  2. The estimate from the Tech21 rep in that other thread was 100 Hz! The rumble filter is more designed for acoustic guitars, where you want to roll off actual bass and not just subsonics.
  3. It is a HPF, but as it's not a bass specific pre, it'll be set higher than for example a Thumpinator. I have a figure of 80Hz in my head, no idea if I've remembered that from another thread or just made it up!
  4. If you want to eliminate the hum that comes from ground loops, you need a switcher that has one of the outputs electrically isolated from the other. So not a cheap ABY or LS-2. I have a Radial Twin City only used once and surplus to requirements I've been meaning to list should you decide to get one!
  5. Or route it out for a matching MM pickup!

    Magnets

Some wah pedals might have coils inside, some might have transformers if they have a DI output. They might be affected by a magnet, but then again the overall effect may be negligible.
  7. MXR: Watery, rubbery, vocal-like Fwonkbeta: KFC bargain bucket with triple gravy
  8. Surely Limelight will build your one with next to no relicing if that's what you want? Every one is built to order, worth an ask. Might even be cheaper!
  9. You might also want to consider the Line6 Helix Stomp. It can model a Darkglass B7K, Sansamp BDDI, and a bunch of bass amps and speaker sims, plus every effect you could think of!
  10. There was an OmniCabSim Mini in the for sale section recently, not sure if it's still there. The most recent Ultra pedals from the Darkglass range all feature cab sims, and of course they are baked into anything Tech21/Sansamp!
  11. If I was applying to program patches I'd want to send them all, unless of course for some reason they specified only one.
  12. I could be wrong but I think Doug from @Darkglass confirmed this in another thread elsewhere a while back?
  13. To me, the Enigma and the newer Mutrons don't have 'it', they sound too clean. The old Mini Q-Tron does though, that's a great filter apart from the volume boost. The Emma Discombobulator is another one I'm keeping - it's brighter and more subtle then the Fwonk, but that means it works really well going into overdrive/distortion, sounding more like a wah.
  14. I keep the Juice usually maxed, never below 3 o'clock, Stroke around 11 o'clock depending on the instrument, Fwonk anywhere between 10 and 2 depending on how much pork I've eaten on that particular day. It just has a slightly dirty sound like it's running into a cranked vintage amp that's hard to replicate by combining amp sims or dirt with other filters. The only thing I've heard that sounds similar is a vintage Mutron III, although I'm yet to actually get my hands on one!
  15. Don’t be afraid to turn that Fwonk control down to around 9 o’clock to tame those spikes. Unlike most filters it’s still pretty damn squelchy with the resonance set low!
  16. The GR2 is very nice indeed, not as greasy/dirty as the Fwonk, but then again not much is!
  17. I tried a Funk Lite, went straight back to the shop. Fwonkbeta is still going strong though!
  18. Personally I reckon the Tech21 VTDI, BDDI, DP3X, or the soon to be released YYZ might get closer to that particular tone. I haven't tried the new Darkglass X pedals, but from the Vintage/B7K/Alpha Omega range, the AO or the newer Vintage models with the attack switch would get closest to that I reckon.
  19. I bring... More pedals than the guitarist.
  20. Painted headstock on the 414 too.
  21. Not me, I think I bought my BB1025X for something like £675 from Thomann when most places over here were selling them for £850. I don't know the risks when it comes to CITES, but there is a dedicated thread on the subject somewhere around these parts.
  22. I haven't tried that many onboard preamps, but I do like the Darkglass Tone Capsule, since it has two mid bands and no treble. Get a 'vintage' tone by boosting low mids and cutting high mids, and vice versa for a 'modern' tone.
  23. If you're interested in the Warwick Streamer PJs, you should also look out for Spector basses.
  24. Definitely worth considering the pedal route. With swapping the preamp you are generally just swapping one clean EQ circuit for another one with slightly different characteristics. But a pedal like the TC Spectradrive will bring multiband compression to the table, that by itself adds a lot of punch and sparkle, a 3 band EQ and overdrive. You might not have considered overdrive, but you do mention aggression, and very mild drive settings can bring out some nice harmonics without sounding obviously distorted.
