  1. I voted PJ due to my favourite bass for rock being my BB1025X, however standard Fender PJs sound nothing like it. If I was playing old school funk though it would be a single MM like my Sandberg Basic. I'd love to have a custom one, but it's €1690 for this one and my standard one cost me £350, so I'll stick with that for now!
  2. All I can say is listen to lots of demos on YouTube. Never found a demo of any bass with P/MM pickups blended, or a bass with those Sims pickups that I liked the sound of!
  3. Not necessarily. If the 1x10 is 8ohm and the 2x10 is 4ohm, the power will be spread evenly between all 3 speakers.
  4. Never tried a 735A. Would probably want to buy one if I did, but for now I've cured my addiction to buying bass gear!
  5. I never look at my knobs, I just do it by feel, a quick twiddle to see how far they are from min/max/centre is all that's required. The colour of them is irrelevant if there are no markers on them, and 90% of basses have no markers! But if you enjoy staring at knobs, knock yourself out!
  6. Top man. Just wish I'd seen it first!
  7. The WD one is decent, I can attest to that. I was umming and ah-ing over a Spitfire, but ultimately turned off by the price and poor customer service. Heard of one case where someone's guards did not come out as expected, e.g. colours different to advertised with a massive ugly blotch in the center, and there was no offer of refunds or anything. I'd ask for detailed photos of the finished product before handing over any cash!
  8. £50 for a BDDI? Are you feeling well? £100 would still be a bargain! 😄
  9. No contest for me - my BB1025X with both pickups on is 'my' sound, and no other P/J or P/MM can sound like it. It's also the only 5 string neck I've instantly liked, having briefly owned but not got on with a Fender P5, J5, and Sandberg TT5. Nothing against Sandberg though, I have a single pickup Basic that is a pure funk machine and is my 2nd favourite bass!
  10. Yes, pretty much any pedal will convert the signal to the kind of impedance that will make the mixer happy. If the pedal has a buffered bypass (e.g. anything by Boss) you won't even need to turn the pedal on, just power it up. The HA400 is for splitting a headphone out to 4 people with individual volume controls, it can be used as part of the solution, but not by itself. Running the line output (or FX send) of one amp into the aux input of the other amp is a good shout if your amps can do that, all you'd need is the correct cable plus a headphone splitter.
  11. Thunderbirds have the most stable anti-neck-dive of any bass ever... as long as you loop the strap around the front of the bass and over the lower 'wing'. You can take your hand off the neck and do star jumps and it'll stay put!
  12. You don't need to pay immediately if you win. The system just bids on your behalf, if you win you just log into eBay and pay in the normal way, via Paypal or card.
  13. Have you tried replacing, or simply refitting the string? If there's any twist tension along the length of the string it can make it sound a bit like it's going through a chorus pedal.
  14. I must say I've never seen him play one of these!
  15. Same! Probably the only film I’ve ever instantly decided to switch off.
  16. Most mixers are not designed to accept plugging guitar or bass straight in however. The impedance is not high enough, which results in a really dull sound. Although you could still get by, it just wouldn’t sound great. If you have any pedals you can go through, that would improve matters. Also, bass usually sounds pretty decent direct, but guitars sound very bland direct without some kind of amp sim, so see what your guitarist has available, like a multi-fx unit.
  17. I take it both amps have line outputs? If one is for guitar, hopefully the line out includes some form of speaker modelling to remove the harsh treble. My old band used to rehearse all plugged into a mixer, me using a VT Bass pedal or similar, the guitarist using a Roland practice combo with amp models built in, plus an electronic drum kit and vocal mic. We then ran a 4-way headphone splitter cable straight out of the mixer, surely not the ‘proper’ way, but it sounded great and we all had decent volume! Something like a Behringer Xenyx 502 would probably do the job.
  18. Just pointing out the finer points that the 'I don't need compression' folk may not have considered. And clipping does indeed increase sustain, which is why your have a sustain knob on a Big Muff!
  19. Also, a big thing when it comes to compression vs valves/overdrive is attack/release time. A compressor has an adjustable delay before it clamps down on your signal. This means that your signal isn't just evened out, the initial peak can in fact be louder and more pronounced than it was before. With a multi band comp, you can apply this trick to the lows so that every note has a 'pop' to it, but have a faster attack time akin to a limiter to control the higher frequencies associated with aggressive playing. Your valves won't do this, but a Spectracomp will!
  20. Laurel? I prefer yanny fingerboards.
  21. If it's gone - I have the same case I've been meaning to sell. I tested my bass fit inside it ok, then put it back in the cardboard and never got around to using it, and will be unlikely to now I'm no longer gigging!
  22. You might be able to squeeze a little one on there, especially if you rotate the MXR 90 degrees! I have a TC Corona Mini going spare btw!
  23. Also the Wounded Paw Black Sheep!
  24. Gixen.com
  25. Far from it! There are plenty out there regarded as 'better'. Personally I've been happiest with the TC Spectracomp, which also happens to be the smallest and cheapest by far from the ones I've tried.
