  1. Pushing these remaining pedals again now that I have finally moved house and unpacked them!
  2. New kid on the block! https://www.seattleguitarstore.com/mxr-vintage-bass-octave-pedal/
  3. These are the things I'm aware of: 415 -> 425: Laminated neck, unpainted headstock, angled string thru design. Pickups look very similar, probably the same. 425 -> 435: New colours, pickguards, painted headstock, new pickups (more Fendery / traditional, being alnico rather than ceramic with rails for example)
  4. Darkglass Alpha Omega / Omicron is one to try. I'm a big fan of the Russian reissue muff even though it doesn't have much in the way of mids, it still makes itself heard because it dominates the bass and low mids, in that it sits under and supports the guitars rather than overpowers them! Best experienced at high volume, I was sceptical about it at bedroom levels!
  5. I would try drive off, master up full, adjust gain to set your volume. You should be able to get a clean tone that way, then you can try lowering the master / increasing the gain from there.
  6. Given the price, no reason to not give the Spectracomp a go, especially if you can pick up a used one and flip it later. It made me sell my Cali CB, I can really notice the limitations in single band compressors after getting used to what the multiband does for me. Prime example being if I agressively pop a string, a single band will react to that peak and turn the volume of the whole signal down for a split second, whereas a multiband can limit the top end spike without neutering the low end. I'm not too worried about future support since I prefer the stock setting, if in 10 years time the Windows/iPad app were to stop working, I’d be disappointed but I wouldn’t be left with a paperweight. I’ve used the app exactly zero times since I auditioned all the presets on day one!
  7. Nice. This one caught my attention recently: http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sandberg_Chris_Childs_Enigma_5.html Looks like the same pickups and colour scheme as yours, however it sounds like the neck pickup is actually a P-like split coil inside that MM-like housing. Perhaps yours is the same?

    HPF + LPF

BTW I think the B3n is the only one of the Zooms that let you apply the cab sim by itself, on the older ones it's just an option you can dial in on each amp model.
  9. Prymaxe price is £269.05 before the discount (their public discount code doesn't work for all brands as some vendors insist on a minimum price, but they will give you a private discount code via their online chat), shipping is very reasonable, and I've not been hit by any charges after ordering dozens of pedals from them.
  10. If a pedal like this had just come out and there are next to none on the used market, a £350 pedal would sell for £300 pretty easily. Buy it from Prymaxe with their 20% discount code and you could even sell it for a profit!
  11. This 'artificial aging' is almost the opposite of relicing though. Relicing is purely a process to make it look and feel old on the outside. The ARE / IRA processes are all about making it sound and resonate like an old bass but still looks brand new. The 2024 series used ARE and IRA, whereas the new P34 only gets IRA. Perhaps that's why it's cheaper. ARE is basically heat treating the wood, perhaps similar to how Musicman do their roasted necks. IRA is a vibration treatment that is supposed to bed everything in, I suppose it makes all the mating surfaces between the paint, body, neck and hardware settle closer together, eliminating any tiny gaps or stresses there might be that adversely affect how it resonates. I'd have to play one next to my 1025X before committing, but as it's my favourite bass I'd certainly be interested in trading up to the 2025X!
  12. I have a 1025X played a 2024X. The only thing that stood out as higher quality is the neck - a rubbed oil finish, smoother more polished frets, etc. I understand the body is more contoured also but In didn't have them side by side to spot the difference!
  13. Actually at the start, each footswitch is a unique chain of FX, so with the 3rd one an empty patch, it is doable. The footswitches only control individual pedals in the patch when you switch to stomp mode.
  14. I'd say a Seymour Duncan SPB-3 and some steel strings such as D'Addario ProSteels. A Sansamp wouldn't hurt either!
  15. Because not all flagship basses have individual bridge pieces, I think they're in the minority. I assume the BBNE2 has them because Nathan East asked for them. They're not expensive either, the ones I've seen worked out cheaper than a regular bridge!
  16. Also to do with the fact the J is really powerful, mine is even slightly louder than the P the way I have it set up!
  17. Definitely try a 1024 if you get the chance. They sound very different to a typical PJ with both pickups engaged.
  18. Can't think of a reason why it would be crap! The XLR out has the top end rolled off so it sounds great direct to headphones or PA.

    Darkglass X7

I'm tempted to get one, but also tempted to just get a HX Stomp, try my AO in the FX loop and use the Helix routing to handle the crossover and compression! Having everything in one box with easy you reach controls though is definitely a boon.
  20. The issue with bass use is the increased wattage needed. This one is a 75W guitar amp in a pedal: Crank that to 500W and you'll need to add a fan, make it bigger, etc. Still it could be done, just look at the size of the Trace Elf!
  21. Yeah, I agree on TC, they have kind of drifted into the discussion purely as a result of dropping their prices. They are one of the most innovative ones out there, just look at the Toneprint tech. I think Hotone and Mooer started out with simple clones but have brought out more advanced stuff since then. E.g. Mooer cloned the EHX POG with their Tender Octave, I can only assume EHX must have proved they reverse engineered it and threatened action, as they discontinued it when it was one of their most popular products. A couple of years later they brought out a Pro version with now features and a new mini MkII, so I guess they figured out how to do it differently! They have a few other digital pedals that look like unique creations too. Hotone have innovated quite a bit, they make the tiniest full tube amps going, even have full guitar amps in pedal format, and quite a bit on the stall modelling front.
  22. Interested to see how well this turns out: http://www.hotoneaudio.com/news/297.html
  23. It is this way with some brands (e.g. Donner, AM Moon), you even see the same pedal rebranded several times. But a lot of them are seriously upping their game. Mooer, Hotone and TC have some really unique stuff. Hotone are about to release a Helix competitor too, that should be interesting!
  24. If you refer to an XLR cable, 99% of the time it has a male XLR at one end and a female at the other. Or an XLR extension cable might have two males/females at either end. Once you start adding 1/4” jacks to the mix, I would start calling them TRS Jack to XLR cables. But yeah, you just need to make sure the cable can carry two signals and you have the right plug on the end, whatever fits your gear!
