HGBM only £69 delivered here, bit of a bargain: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/one-control-bjf-series-fx-hookers-green-bassmachine-bass-preamp-pedal-true-bypass-aluminium-enclosur

Oh yeah I forgot about the HGBM, that's an option too! I only plug things I'm about to sell if they are genuinely what somebody might be looking for though! Whether it's better than a HGBM would be purely down to taste, like arguing which flavour of ice cream is best (chocolate btw). Gonna end up selling loads of my pedals as they just end up all over my floor and I spend more time fiddling with them than actually learning how to play the bass better!

Looked it up - seems to be an OCD clone like the Joyo Ultimate Drive, and is said to lose a bit of low end. The Mooer Cruncher was mentioned in my travels as well, where one person A/B'd it with the Hustle and took the Cruncher home. Also the ENO Trouble appears to be the same pedal as the Hustle: https://uk.dhgate.com/product/eno-micro-guitar-effect-pedal-dso-2-trouble/161040366.html

If you're limiting yourself to nano pedals you don't have many options, one of the best out there is the Cog Mini 66. Keep an eye on the FS section, wink wink nudge nudge. FWIW I far prefer pedals with top jacks to nano pedals, as they take up about the same amount of space overall depending on your board layout and other pedals - so that might widen the net a bit!

If you don't mind an oversized pedal that runs at 15V, go for it. Both of those would be deal breakers for me though. It might not sound any better than your more compact 9V Boss pedal either. Reviews are thin on the ground as not many people ended up buying these Eden pedals for the above reasons!

Bitcrushers that don’t crush your low end or your wallet?
dannybuoy replied to basexperience's topic in Effects
I don't know if the CoPilot Orbit is actually a bitcrusher, or just a bitcrusher-esque fuzz, but John Davis uses/used one of those too. There are some version out there without the switch that can't do the same 303 laser sounds though, as I was disappointed to find when I bought one second time around. Looks like the latest version on their site has 6 knobs, replacing the switch with a dry volume control, although a google image search did turn up one with 6 knobs AND the switch, so I'd get in touch with them if interested in buying one. -

Analog bitcrushers? Are they a thing? -
It sounds more tube like than the Vulcan, it doesn't have the blend but I can put it in a Mosquite Blender if I wish. It sounds similar to the 2 Notes but with less EQ/blend options, and there is a built in treble roll off which means it sounds nicer in headphones than the Two Notes without it's speaker sim (and I don't like the speaker sim on it as it's too muddy). But ultimately it just makes you want to close your eyes and play blues guitar solos on the bass as it's so touch sensitive. Great for Black Sabbath stuff. Reminds me of what the Ashdown CTM15 I had sounded like when cranked! Admittedly this is all in the bedroom though, I tend to change my opinion on pedals in a band context, but since my band has disintegrated it sounds good for now!

It just sounds good! Was getting very similar tones out of the Two Notes, Vulcan and Agro but the Agro just had a bit more character, like a crunchy guitar amp. I'll probably be shedding a bunch of pedals soon but I keep changing my mind about which I like best!

Plugged in my Orange Terror Bass today to mess about with some drive pedals and have changed my answer. If I could only have one overdrive pedal it would be...

Both of these issues are now fixed by the way. No idea if it was something done at your end or just me rebooting my iPad, but all is well now!

Same pickups and hardware, the darker stripes in the neck are mahogany on the 2024X vs something else on the 1024X. Body is meant to be slightly more contoured on the Japanese model, along with the heat and vibration treatments. The neck is nicer overall, looks like a rubbed oil finish and more attention paid to rolled fingerboard edges etc. Otherwise not much between them, if you're not 100% sold on whether it would be a keeper and are just shopping around trying various basses I would just go for the 1024/1025 and then consider the pro model if you fall in love with it!

How could I forget - Darkglass Alpha Omega / Alpha Omicron!

Don't discount the TRBX305 - even though it is cheaper than the 505, I think it sounds better. The preset EQ settings might sound like a novelty but you don't have to use them - even flat I thought it sounded more lively than the 505.

I use an Idiot Box Blower Box for this application, which is also RAT based, so I think you are headed in the right direction. The COG Mini 66 is a good shout also, as is the Fuzzrocious BDPG. Unfortunately I have not tried either of these with a Stingray!

The Donner version looks good too, and comes with a case for a little bit more: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B073GVBK38

Yeah it was probably your post that I misread! I don't know if the tuners from the 425 are exactly the same as the 1025X, but I did see one post on Talkbass where someone claimed their Ultralights fitted perfectly into the existing hole, so we'll see how much luck I have...
-
I should have done I know, but it sold last week! As far as I can tell both come with Aquila Thunderguts... I do prefer the black Pahoehoe strings as they are less sticky, but on the other hand they are less stable tuning-wise. I found I had to apply talc to my fingertips to get a smooth playing experience with the Thunderguts. Not sure how the new red strings compare...

I bought a set of the licensed (i.e. made in China rather than USA) 1/2" Hipshot Ultralites from Bass Direct. Beware that the USA ones are reversible but the licensed ones aren't, so you need to order 4x bass side and 1x treble side. I've yet to fit them however, but there was a recent thread on here where someone confirmed they can be fitted without drilling holes however the tuners will be at a slight angle - so new holes will need to be drilled if you want them dead straight as they should be.
-
It does depend on which overdrive distortion you use as well... I have a few to play with and found my favourites changed when trying them out in a band mix to beef up the sound during solos etc. I settled on a SolidgoldFX Beta for this purpose purely for the big bump in the low mids it has, it increases the presence of your bass but still leaving plenty of sonic space in the upper mids for the guitar to do it's thing.
-
+1 I used to bump my thread, then on the 2nd bump, delete the old one, which was a lot of overhead that's now been replaced by one click. And of course most people just posted endless bump posts one after the other. Anyway, what's the problem with it looking like you bumped the thread? Once people get used to the new system they will no longer assume the last poster bumped it anyway, as you can work it out from the timestamps on each post.

I had (and regrettably sold) a Kala U-Bass a while back, and want to get a cheap clone to mess about with that I can keep tucked down the side of the sofa! These look to be cheaper than all the others I’ve seen out there, has anyone tried one? Not sure whether to spend a little bit more to avoid disappointment, but cheap, buy twice and all that! https://www.musicstore.de/en_GB/GBP/Jack-Danny-Ukulele-Bass-UK-BM1R/art-BAS0007299-000

Can’t you just beam the toneprint via the iPad speaker and pickup, with no need for a cable?
-
Well the pickups are the same in the 1025 and 2025 so I know what to expect there. The new range of BBs have gone for a totally different more vintage construction with alnico magnets... the 434/435 have the ‘V5’ pickups while the 734/735/P34/P35 have the ‘V7’ pickups. I don’t think there’s much difference between them though, I was hard pushed to tell the difference between the 434 and 734A in passive mode! I’d give them all another good play through before I ever decided to splash the cash!
