Using one pedal as a combined Volume and Expression pedal
dannybuoy replied to radiophonic's topic in Effects
I think some of the Zoom pedals have pitch-shifted delays in them - cheaper than going the Eventide route for sure. Otherwise it would mean running the pitch shifter in front of the delay... -
Using one pedal as a combined Volume and Expression pedal
dannybuoy replied to radiophonic's topic in Effects
Looks like it should work, as long as the volume pedal is passive (a buffer would interfere with expression operation I reckon). -
Tried it with an expression pedal or hot hand yet? I used the MIDI hub with mine (which I still have going spare) which lets you use any expression pedal with it.

I just ran my B3K at 18V by accident, and not only did it survive but it sounded better! Not sure if this only applies to the USA built ones as I’ve never heard of anyone running Darkglass pedals at 18V, so don’t try this at home folks!
-
If anything the HGBM will be cleaner (and louder) at 18V. I haven't tried any Blueberry mods but I can fully see myself purchasing a Broughton Azure Drive! There was a bit of hype around the Bearoot Uber Bee being a brighter alternative to the Blueberry but it did not have the same mojo at all for me.

Hey @blablas, what's the deal with those footswitch covers? Do they just provide a nicer tactile feel when switching them on and off?

Tried not to ask this... home and practice amp
dannybuoy replied to pburrows's topic in Amps and Cabs
One option is keep the amp and cab in storage and use a little combo in the house? The PJB Double Four is the size of a shoebox for example. -
I have those same headphones and went for the 80 ohm version. I've heard reviews saying the 32 ohm version do not sound as good for some reason, and the 250 ohm needs a very powerful headphone amp to drive a decent signal. I can still get a ok level out of consumer gear like an iPad with the 80ohm. They sound amazing for tracking bass though with a better headphone amp like the PJB Bighead!

I know it does - a preamp that needs a preamp before it to sound good?! I thought it was based on the Electronix Submarine preamp myself. Anyhow, all I know is it sounded pants with my passive P straight in, but glorious with any buffered pedal inbetween!

First there was the original BJFE. Then the Mad Professor, then the Bearfoot. Then there was a rumour that Bearfoot changed the circuit within the last year to make it brighter, but I've not seen any official confirmation, user reports or demos to confirm this other than one dude on Talkbass who apparently was told by Bearfoot. You'd have to contact Bearfoot to find if this is true and from which serial number they changed!

The Moog bypass is supposedly a bit like a slightly coloured preamp - hated by some so that they use a true bypass loop; but on the other hand I have heard of at least one person who loved the sound of that always-on preamp so much they got a custom made mini box to replicate it's tone!
-
EP-2. Exactly the same as the EP-3 that replaced it except it has the cable built in rather than having a jack socket and separate cable.
-
If you are looking for a Moog expression pedal let me know. I have one in my pile of pedals about to be listed for sale!
-
Neither - the Bearfoot version as the original BJFE version is too rare and expensive! Well the BJFE is supposedly the best but very hard to come by. The Mad Professor is much higher gain and mushier sounding. The Bearfoot version the most recent and is much closer to the original.

Their offer only applies to items in stock though... and G4M out of stock of those Trios! I would've fancied messing around with one for £40!

13lbs is pretty darn heavy. Most folk with shoulder issues around here often seek a bass under 9lbs. My heaviest bass is 10.7lbs and that can be uncomfortable at times. Any particular pickup configuration you favour? I've been eyeing up the Gibson EB basses myself, they are renowned for being consistently light in the region of 7lbs for a 4 string and 8 lbs for a 5-string. There is a new 2018 range inbound with some new colours, so the 2017 range and the differently styled 2013/2014 ranges are discounted everywhere. A good tip is to see if any basses you fancy are stocked by Sweetwater (in the US) or Bass Direct (UK)- as both list the weights of the basses in their ads, e.g: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BAEB17NSBC

Your Google-Fu is weak, young grasshopper: http://www.bass-pedals.com/eden-glowplug-bass-tube-warmer-review/ Looks like a decent pedal but I don't think they sold well due to the oversized enclosure and 15V power requirement. Both of those are instant turn offs for me as I like to use a common power supply and virtually none of them offer 15V outputs, and I like to keep the pedals as small as possible! But listening to those clips again, it sounds really good if you want a more vintage/mellow overdrive and don't mind the aforementioned drawbacks. A bit of a steal for under £100!

The Octabass also tends to one of the cheapest options on the used market, and the older ones are potentially more reliable too, at least in my unfortunate experience of the studio edition!
-
Through a clean amp I think the G&L has the edge; certainly a lot more versatile. But when running through my various dirt pedals I do prefer the BB, and since I always have one on, it's the BB all the way for me! There will be a black/maple one listed in the classifieds soon if you want to try one out!
-
I've not tried the old Octabass but the new one is great. More natural sounding than the Octabvre Mini, tracking is equally good for me if not better. In the low mode it's really deep and blends very well with the clean signal. Only downside is the footswitch started playing up a week after I've got it, I've got to send it back! I've had severely bad luck with new pedals lately, an RMI Basswitch dual band compressor died within a week, a Dunlop mini bass wah that had some kind of mechanical failure on between the pot and treadle, and now this!
-
You should try a buffer before the BDPG - I thought the one I had sounded terrible with a passive bass going straight in for some reason, but awesome with another drive pedal or even just a clean buffer in front!
-
I would go for one of the DHA tube pedals. Cheaper and better sounding than the EBS in my opinion.

Oh dear. Lots of political threads to clean up then!

Found an old post of mine with a YouTube link, edited and saved and it turned the URL text back to a working link. Didn’t embed the video though like the old site, is that not supported anymore?
