1.
Lotto results , John Prescott and cage fighting then - not looking good to be honest , chief !
Yes, and on another thread I think you admitted to preferring a vodka tonic with lime and ice (the latter two items gives the game away). Exclusion time methinks
 2. Don't listen to them - i've not fallen for a P or a J yet - currently playing a Thumb. Evolution innit?
 3. special amazingly good deal *bump*
 4. I've been using this small 'combo' as a practice amp, and for small venues for a while now, but I don't need it so much any more so I'm selling it for what is, frankly, a bargain! Price is £465 inc. P+P Genz-Benz don't make this model any more but are selling a slightly larger unit, which is a bit of a shame as although it is small, the sound is anything but! It's like the TARDIS of the amp world - you could put it under your chair and then surprise people with the volume when you turn it on. The Shuttle 3.0 amp can be removed from the cab easily if you want to take it away as a 'headphones and portable amp' when you want to practice without a cab. The whole thing comes in a Genz-Benz padded case with carrying handle. Has to be heard to be believed really. Here are the specs:

• Ultra Light 2.75 lb Design
• Power: 175W/8 ohms; 300W/4 ohms
• High Current, Class D Power Amplifier
• Extended Range Input Gain for Active/Passive Sensitivity
• Active EQ w/Parametric Mids
• 3-Band Signal Shape Circuit
• Tuner Out
• Headphone Jack
• Aux. Input
• Limiter Circuit
• LED Status Indicators
• Speakon® and 1⁄4” Speaker Outputs
• Full XLR Direct Out Interface
• Combo w/10” NEO and tweeter
• 175W as combo/300W with EXT. Cab
• Compact 18 lb combo
• Removable Amp Chassis
• Rear-ported For Full Response
GAK are still selling them (for £681) here: http://www.gak.co.uk...CFeXItAodd2MAaA
 5. Great pedal this one: has a chunky valve to provide distortion or just some 'warmth' to the tone before it goes into your amp. Even with my Genz Benz amps, which are valve-preamp jobbies, it has a great effect. Perfect condition, postage will be paid - complete bargain... here are the specs:

True Bypass
Nominal Input Level - 8 or - 16 dBv (active/passive)
Input Impedance 1 Mohms
Frequency Response +0 / -3 dB 35 - 20k Hz
Gain Range -oo/+26 dB
Bass Filter Range 15 dB < 80 Hz
Middle Filter Range 12 dB @ 400 Hz
Treble Filter Range 6 dB @ 5 kHz
Output Impedance > 500 kohms
Dimensions (L x W x H) 6.5” x 5.3” x 3.0”
(165 x 135 x 75 mm)
Weight 1.0 kg (2.2 lbs.)
Power Requirements 12 V AC, 500 mA (power supply included)
6. ah... should have mentioned that I'm happy to pay for shipping - or you're welcome to pick it up in person
 7. After much thinking about it I've decided to sell my (newly acquired) Vigier Passion 5 Custom. I bought it from Bass Direct back in early Feb. Great price: £1450 - 'cause I want it to go to a good home and be used! The link to it is still there on the original site: http://www.bassdirec...sion_5_Nat.html I'm spending much of my time playing drums at the moment, and when I go back to play my bass, it's the Thumb I go to first, and this great bass isn't getting the attention it really deserves. I can't play all these instruments at once and it's a real waste. The specs are (from the bass direct site again):

•Natural High Gloss Finish
•Alder Body with Flamed Maple Top and Back
•Exclusive Carbon reinforced bolt on neck (ensures total stability of the instrument in terms of sound, action and resistance to even the most extreme climate changes.
•Phenowood Fingerboard
•Custom split coil Pickups
•Exclusive 3 band Glockenklang active pre amp, plus Volume and Blend
•Fitted Hiscox Hard case
•Weight 9lbs 3oz, 4.1kg
There's a long waiting list for these basses so grab it while you can!
8. Gutting - i feel for you on this one... Hope it gets replaced soon
 9. Singing - I can't stop myself.. oh, and 'straight-man dancing' (and I mean that in a non-straightist way of course), again, can't stop myself. Well embarrassing...
 10.
The Bluetones "If" great bassline never stops in one place too long but has some great little riffs in there and isn't too hard to learn
'isn't too hard to learn' is quite important... right, it's on the list... any more for any more?
 11. So... I've been away with work for the last 4 days with no bass playing, and I'm really gagging to get back to playing my bass tomorrow. I have the day off work, and I'm going to spend it on the one useful thing you can do with a day off, and learn a new song from scratch... all the way to perfection (well, as much 'perfection' as I can manage!) Any inspiration? Give me a few suggestions of a bass-heavy track - any genre - that you like... I can donate a whole day to learning it and I'll youtube the results and bore you further with what one day of serious practice can do... (not much, don't hold your breath!) Anyone for suggestions? p.s. this kind of posting only happens when I've imbibed at least a bottle of wine - well, it's my birthday!
 12. Ah, now... yes... As my teach pointed out a few weeks ago, if you want that really 'thwumpy' DB sound, and you mute with your palm/along the pinky, and play with the thumb only, then the rest would be in the perfect place to rest your three fingers... Nice sound, but the rest isn't really necessary me thinks...
 13. Bass players are (usually) weird, individualistic, quiet, relatively ego-free, musical people... what's not to like? (or so I tell my better half all the time - he's not buying it though)
 14.
I was told by the keyboard player recently that he couldn't hear the difference between any of them. Significantly closer to the truth than any of us would want to admit! Are there differences? Obv yes, but in the mix to an ear that does not care, not really much of a difference. I would keep the Sadowsky.
Maybe, but I don't play for my keyboardist, I play for *me* and when I like the sound I feel good and play better and the audience gets a better ride
 15. everyone should own at least one warwick - they're epic Obviously I'm biased, but the thumb is a classic and believe me, they lack *nothing* in the sound department
 16.
Noticed that you play a Thumb Bass. Just a word of advice, be wary of compressors that don't have a control for the input signal. The signal from the Thumb bass is hot hot hot. I had a Demeter Compulator (great pedal) which couldn't handle it, the range on the wee input trim pot wasn't great enough. It's safer to get a compressor that can dial the input signal back to zero. Bear this in mind when choosing a compressor.
Ah, thanks for that, I will check... I didn't realise that the Thumb was *so* hot (well, not in *that* way, sexy-wise of course it's atom-bomb hot!)
 17.
I don't play often below E but sometimes it's nice to drop one in. It took me ages to adjust to 5 strings, then I struggled to go back to 4. Now I switch between them without thinking and enjoy them both. But I never felt the need for a high C string despite owning a lovely sounding 6er.
A high C string seems perilously close to a treble guitar!
 18. I'm thinking of trying out a compressor - just a touch - to balance out my sound a bit. If I look on Amazon (for example) there is a wide range of prices: from £45 to £185! Anybody have any advice - do you get what you pay for, or is it such a simple 'effect' that the cheapest will do just fine?
 19.
Just keep buying those 5 string basses and selling them on after 6 months. We love you for it.
not a hope in hell
 20. Can't you play the 'low' tones just an octave higher (or even, gosh, something different around the same theme/feel but not so low?) I ask genuinely by the way, I don't know the answer
 21. Nope - i'm with you on this one. No matter what happens, the reasons you started playing are still there, and you have something no-one can take away from you. I hope the world gets better all round for you soon though
 22. just wondering if anyone on here has 'downgraded' from 5 strings back to 4 again permanently? I've been playing my 5 stringer for a few months now and haven't touched my 4 string (Thumb B.O.) since I first discovered the joys of the 5 string... I've had a week's holiday this week and spent most of it playing my 5 string bass (well, who wouldn't?) but on a whim decided to play my 4 stringer again today and something feels kind of 'right' about 4 strings. Anyone else had this feeling? Is it just familiarity with the old 4 stringer, or is there something that just 'works' with 4 strings? I'm interested if anyone has gone through a 5 string 'phase' and returned to their 4 string permanently...?
 23. Welcome! After many years of classical and then switching to bass, trust me, there's no going back!
 24. Nope - boutique basses and a mix of folk/funk... looks like i'm barred!
