The one that got away in 99/00 Manchester Bass Centre
la bam replied to AndyTravis's topic in Bass Guitars
I went once thinking it would be a fantastic shop full to the brim of bass gear and enthusiastic staff. It wasnt. Then tried a few times to order a full bass rig off them over the phone (theyd talked me into a hartke) and both times that id rang they stopped the call mid conversation to deal with someone in the shop and promised to ring me back - twice - and never did. -
Ive previously had the evoii and they were great. Ive now just picked up a little giant 1000 in immaculate condition as a back up amp and it sounds fantastic so far. Potentially really loud and the 7 band eq really lets you dial in any sound. Very tight sounding through my bf sc andcan get some real growl to the sound using the J setting on my bb424. I'll take it to practice and give it a full run through.

Cheers. I'll try glueing these on them (save me a trip to b and q) and see how it goes. If not i'll get some with adhesive pads on. Thanks.

Hi all, This may be a weird/paranoid question....but.... Ive just got an Ashdown little giant 1000. (Very impressed by the way so far). However it doesnt come in a sleeve, case or with any feet. Rubber feet are great for stopping the amp scratching my cab and allowing the unit to keep cool as the bottom of the amp can get warm if pushed. So, the daft question is - is it ok to glue the rubber feet to the bottom of the amp case? Theres no screw holes in the amp so that rules that out, just checking the glue wouldnt get hot etc?

I think (linked to alexs post) you would be better with say x2 4x10 at 8ohm each, rather than x2 2x10 at 4ohm each. Even if my amp ran down to 2ohm, i dont think id ever run it at that. 4ohm is plenty.

Bitcrushers that don’t crush your low end or your wallet?

Yes, the zoom ms60b and b3 also. Might be a cheap way in and easier to sell if you dont like them? -
My Barefaced super compact gen 3 certainly doesnt lack bottom end. (i had the same concerns). Its that capable i have my bass eq wound right back on my amp and its still really loud and powerful in the bass frequencies.

The thumps are reknowned by djs for being underpowered. The alto ts112a and ts115a are excellent for the money, but they do clip early (around 11/12 oclock) and again djs report a lot of drivers blowing. (Mine blew as well).

Hi, Does anyone know where i can get rack ears to fit the following to a 19" rack? 1) mark bass evo 1. 2) ashdown little giant 1000. Thanks.

Have to recommend barefaced. I use a markbass evo and it works really really well with the barefaced supercompact. Im the same with markbass cabs - i find them really lifeless. Plenty of options cab wise. Super compact, big baby, 2x10 retro. You might get lucky second hand in your budget, although you might have to stretch another £100+. The ashdown abm cabs are reidiculously cheap second hand, but as much as i personal like them, they may give the nasal woolly tone you dont want.

Strings make a HUGE difference. I always used rotosound swing 45s but EVERY bass and amp i had sounded the same. This year i switched to diadrio exls and everything has come alive. Id suggest learning how to get different sounds out of your set up using just eq then when you buy / upgrade / change equipment you can dial in a the sound your looking for easily, but itll sound fantastic, and youll be able to tweak to taste.

Great, lightweight abs case by pulse. 12u size and 19inch rack. Tilt able rack unit for comfort. Very strong and light. Top handle for ease of carrying. Lid removes completely. These the residual sticky pads from where ive removed the previous equipment. (Please ask for photos).Comes with the 2 blanking plates (which can be removed). Pick up Leyland Lancashire or will post for £10.Cost £100 when new. Grab a bargain

i'll give that a go - cheers!

Yes, thats absolutely fine. As i expected. 300w into my super compact is perfect for what i do. The amp is only going to be used for backup and dodgy gig venues!
-
thanks - thats what i thought. i just couldnt work out why ashdown would stick a big "4OHM" label next to each input? (unless its just to show BOTH inputs can handle 4ohms simulataneously?
-
Hi all, this may be a daft question - but just thought id check first....... i fully understand ohmage and speaker matching etc. most amp manufacturers will give a rating for the amp ie 300w @8ohm and 500w @4ohm - so it doesnt matter what cab you plug into. however....the ashdown little giant 1000 shows quite clearly "4OHM" on each of its 2 speakon sockets. Does this mean you can only use a 4ohm speaker cab? I have an 8ohm BF SC.

What’s the Bassline that you really had to work at
la bam replied to Toddy17's topic in General Discussion
Its always seemingly easy ones that throw me. I remember the killers - somebody told me - pretty easy, but for some reason my brain couldnt make any sense of it. Sounded like it was being played backwards. Very frustrating for no logical reason. -
