Disappointingly the post di is now crackling in and out - exact same note played over can be smoothly or crackle driven. Hmmm, maybe couriers dropped it.

It's an absolutely awesome sound. Really is. I've also tried the di. The fact it is through the tubes is awesome - you can really break up the tubes for di send too! Sounds fantastic. However, mine seems to be getting pulses or spikes when di into the desk every so often - ive changed xlrs too - so this amp may need a replacement. I'll see what ashdown say.

With the lockdown is virtually impossible to get hold of PMT. But I've emailed them. I can live with tolex issues, but if @Ashdown Engineering could help on how to look at the valve, and vu meter and light (it works fine on bias, just not audio) that would be appreciated - although I appreciate they may be on lockdown too.

Just received this from PMT. A quick review, as theres only so much you can do when all your neighbours are at home.... and i need to ask some advice. Firstly the item was clearance, but presumably new - as it didnt say anything else. The box was obviously an opened box, re taped, but well packed. On inspection theres a few Mark's on the tolex, the vu doesnt light up yellow, and a valve looks to be askew - can any advise if this is acceptable? They're only small things, but a bit of a disappointment when you spend a fortune. The sound though is absolutely fantastic! Gees - that's real warmth and response. Just what I wanted. The eq section seems to do a lot too (contrary to reports). Fairly easy to lift due to the strong side handles and not that heavy. I'll carry on testing!

When Do You Think Your Band Will Start Gigging Again ?
la bam replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
Pretty sure that local registrars have been banned from working until around september this year. So that rules out most Weddings until then. There will surely be a staggered return to normality over time. They wont open everything back up at once. I'd imagine the party sector and pubs and clubs will be amongst the last to open. -
Thanks. In the end, considering the heft and feel I wanted for this specific project (to fill the sound) I went for an Ashdown ctm300. Hopefully will arrive this week.

I use a line 6 g75. Works great. Decent price, good range.

Sounds great at any volume level. The gain is independent from master volume, so you can get very loud and clean or very quiet and overdriven. The louder you go, just dial the gain back.

Well, I'm moved a few things on, and reshuffled a good few things and managed to snare an ashdown ctm300 for a fantastic deal. Hopefully itll give me everything I need for this type of role.

Cheers. I love the stomp and quilter combo and its staying. However, I sold my back up amp when I left the other band, so .. . Illogically thinking I'm gonna need another amp anyway, so I can either waste £300 on a second hand spare that I've no real interest in or look for something completely different. If it helps, with the new band only having one guitarist and one vocalist, Id love that valve warmth that encompasses all the band and is just kind of there in addition to all the notes. The indescribable thing that makes the entire band sound warmer.

I had an immaculate laney nexus valve head. Loved it. Stupidly sold it as the band where doing loads of shared gigs on stages where you had to carry your gear upstairs etc so it became impractical. Great amps. The only amp ever where at a sound check the barmaid came over before we'd even done a song and said she loved that tone!

I always loved the first parts of Chasing Rainbows by Shed 7. Such a good rich sound.

Hi all, not exactly sure where to put this as it's both amps and cabs. Predominantly a PA system, but could be used frfr if your planning a mahoosive rig! Hk Audio Linear Pro System. Consists of: x4 boxes. x2 LP30 (which have x2 15" speakers in each cab - 600w in total) and x2 LP24 (which have x2 12" speakers and horn in each cab - 600w). Its a huge system in an easy manageable 4 box system. All boxes are 4ohm. x1 Citronic Crossover. x1 Matrix amp. UKP1000. 500w per side. x1 Matrix STR 1200. 600w per side. The system is crazy clear and crazy loud. Perfect for bands etc. Could also be used as a bass rig for those who use pa systems and modelling. It's an older system, and there are some Mark's on the felt covering, but in good condition. 3 of the boxes are badged HK Audio. One of of the cabs Hughes & Kettner badge. After asking HK Audio, this is because they were built in the same factory at the time, and are identical in every way. Big sturdy, wooden, heavy cabs. But perfect for 2 man lift. Plonk 4 boxes down and you're good for any gig! 4 connections on each cab. 2 speakons (ins and outs) and 2 3pin cables (ins and outs). I just used the external crossover and went 1 speaking into each cab. The matrix amps are ultra reliable and have great depth and clarity. The only thing you'll need is a mixing desk. Very rare system. Price up a similar system and your well into the thousands. Based in Leyland, Lancashire.

Meanwhile...I've been practicing on my two sires....and ignored my own advice and flattened all the batteries by leaving them plugged in! Doh!

Cheers Lozz, I've had the amb evo iv - unfortunately made a bad decision and sold it about 18 months ago, keeping a markbass instead. I did like it, and I'd happily use one, but not enough to justify buying another (if that makes sense). Although, the prices new are fantastic. In fairness the band i was in just didnt practice so i never had time to play with the eq and sound - it was just turn up, 10 second sound check and wait until we went on. I've got my mini rig sorted - quilted bb800 and helix stomp - but would love an all singing rig. It's that kind of music where a messy, loose, slightly overdriven sound somehow sounds clean, tight and very rich in the mix.

Any thoughts on the Ashdown CTM300?

The trace elf is a very surprising piece of kit. I had one, and did a gig with one. I used a 2x12 (and PA support) with it, and to be honest although it coped well, and was a good sound, it was always pushing way harder than I'd have liked. Likewise the 2x8 just wont cut it in a live rock band. Personally id look for something Ashdown. Depending on what you class as light, id either go rm500 (or combo) or abm. Cab wise is where you'll struggle to get quality, light and within budget. If it has to be cheap and light I'd go for a 1x15 rather than a 2x10 etc. Some expensive 2x10s are great, but some just dont cut it. Or check out the quilter stuff. Perhaps out of budget, but you might get lucky. That's super small, light and powerful.
