  1. Hi all, Ive just renovated and am in the process of putting back together this G&L sb2 tribute. It's pretty much done. I've just got to connect one black wire to the bridge. One black wire and one white wire back to where they were..... and them I'm a bit stuck. There a black wire coming from the first top pot which looks like the volume for the 'p' pickups with a connector on the end which looks like it goes around a screw and connects that way. But where and what screw? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
  2. The beauty with 2x10s is that you can take just a 210 or double up for a 4x10 @4ohm. The downside is 4x10s are not much bigger nowadays, depending on what cab you get.
  3. I'd try the Quilter 800, and x2 2x10 cabs. More power than you'll ever need with the Quilter and you can decide how many cabs to take depending on the gig. Love mine. Really light and not at all class d sounding.
  4. Cheers. Laney are very kindly sending me some fuses in the post to test first. If that doesn't work, I'll take it for a service.
  5. Does anyone know where to get fuses, and if needed valves for these amps? I'd like to possibly have some spares with me should I need them.
  6. Lots of people saying Rod Stewart sound was awesome at Bolton in the middle at the front, but absolutely awful at the sides. Similar to what you say, could make out speech, instruments just a mush etc.
  7. All sorted now. As spider said - start with both at 0, switch on power to 1, leave for a bit, switch on standby to 1. This now means it's in run mode (ironically, not standby!) but all good. So, to summise, on the standby switch, 0 is standby (ie on but no sound) and 1 is not in standby / run mode (sound).
  8. We recorded our album in our guitarists house. Cost nothing only a few pizzas.
  9. Are you able to arrange courier, insurance etc?
  10. Did you ever have to change any fuses, valves or any maintenance? Theres x2 red leds showing on the power tubes when in operation. It could be just fuses. Just wondered if it's a user thing to fix or strictly an amp techs job?
  11. Cheers Dood! It was your review (both video and written) that convinced me I wanted one ages ago! Great review, and I'm definitely not disappointed! PS as soon as another n410 cab comes up, I'm after it!
  12. Well, I finally lost the plot and did what I knew I'd do the minute I bought the half a kg trace elliot elf amp ..... I bought a 40kg all valve amp to replace it! I've been after one of these for ages. By nature I never really go for the obvious choices in anything - cars, music, clothes - my main gigging amp is a quilter and my bass a g&l, so in a weird way Laney becomes a much more attractive amp for me than say an Ampeg, Trace, Fender etc. I got it in pretty much unused condition and I'm chuffed to bits with it. I've never had a full valve amp before. I've had ashdown abms with the one valve preamp, but nothing else. But this, this has 12 valves! Massive ones at that. The control panel despite looking confusing is very simple. Pretty much all of it is standard, but the panel has extra options in switchable lo mid and hi mid frequencies and boosts and cuts (I love the fact its covered both mids) and a 6 band switchable graphic too. On top of that it has a presence dial, which helps bring the mids and top end more to the fore. Likewise a deep dial which is used to tighten the bottom end. Theres also a one knob compressor that seems to work really well and also add a bit of bite. The tube option has both a tube drive and a tube level, so you can get more out of the tubes at lower volumes. Now, heres the brilliant bonus....not only does it have an awesome valve section, it also has a fantastic fet section, so you can run it just fet, just valve, or have a combination of both! Love it! I'd wager this is also a fantastic saver should anything go wrong with either section. Simply switch to just the other. Sound wise....gees, its unbelievable. Paired with my laney n410 it's really really powerful. Even at its lowest level, with the bass guitar turned right down and the pad button in, I can feel the bass vibrate through my legs! Real real heft if ever I felt it. Gorgeous tone so far, with lots of tone shaping options. I simply cant wait to get it in a practice room soon!
  13. Sorry, please keep all messages on here or via private message. Thanks.
  14. The manual says to wait 2 minutes Bill.
  15. It's a laney nexus tube if that helps.
  16. Hi all, Just got my first proper tube valve amp. Daft question, I get the switching to stand by before switching on properly etc, but..... The standby and power switch have a 0 and 1. For power obviously 0 is off and 1 is on. So, at 0 is that 'standby' off, and therefore the amp is running, and when at 1 amp is in standby? To help, what should the switches be set at when switching on for the first time? Power 1 and Standby 1? Then to get volume, power 1 and standby 0? Any help really appreciated, before I turn it on for the first time!
  17. Someone help me out! I heard this cab and bought it (guy I bought it off had only used it 4 times in the house - great condition) alongside an amp head which I wanted. It was absolutely gorgeous sounding. However, I already have a 4x10 which I love, and I really want to keep this too and probably will if I play it at practice this week. So, someone buy it off me before then! I really cant afford to keep it! Reviews out there online, pretty much all saying it's the best 4x10 cab they've ever used. 4ohm means you get the very best out of your amp! Also has a fully adjustable tweeter. It is fairly light, and has 3 handles depending on how you want to carry it, and lovely recessed wheels. These cost a lot when new - £1100+ Grab a bargain. Pick up Leyland Lancashire.
