Good to know. I've asked Bass Direct to order a 1x10 and I'm waiting to hear back.
-
I concur. Does the Ampeg have an HF speaker? What were the HF settings on the GR?
-
I'm waiting for a darkglass vintrage ultra preamp to arrive. If I get what I'm after in terms of tone from that, I may just take a leap of faith and order an active cab. Of course I'll share my findings on this thread

This is what I mean by powered: https://www.grbass.com/portfolio/nf-110-350-act/ Maybe I should have said active?

It's interesting that a lot of the discussion is about the durability. My gigging life means I'm always transporting my own gear. I've used a GK MB extension cab for years now. This is aluminium so hardly impact proof but is still in mint condition so I guess I should be ok with the carbon cabs. I'm considering getting a powered cab and running it with a darkglass or something similar. I'm up 3 flights of stairs and not getting any younger so the power to weigh equation definitely matters to me. Does anyone have experience of the powered cabs?

Sold a cab to Pete. Good comms throughout and a thoroughly nice guy to deal with. Would happily deal with Pete anytime.

I've had this cab along with a 1x10 of the same series for over 10 years. I think the virtues of these have been stated many times and I have nothing to add other than these are the only cabs I've ever actually like the sound of the HF horn. Most cabs I turn them off or disconnect them but these EBS ones actually very musical. Condition wise, this has no probs whatsoever. Just a bit or scuffing on the corners. The last time I used this was back when I was playing with a samba percussion ensemble 7-8 years ago and I paired this up with my 1x10 and I needed that headroom to have a hope of hearing myself. After I stopped that, I swore I would never do another gig where I needed more than a single speaker so this has just sat unused. Today (7th July)I took this to my friend Bernie of GB Guitars who used to distribute EBS in the UK. I really pushed the volume up in the basement of his shop and it sounds killer. He has assured me this is not a neo despite what it says on the grille. Bernie's opinion is the Eminence drive in this cab is better sounding than the neo but there is a slight weight penalty. At the moment I'm planning to keep the 1x10 but if someone wanted to take them both off me, I could do a deal. Thanks for looking.

I bought this a few moons ago from a guy who worked at GAK and I believe I'm the second owner. This served me well as I was playing upright and electric and having the two sets of controls was a great feature as the characteristics of the piezo pickup on the upright were very different from bass guitar and I could easily swap without messing around with the controls. I no longer play upright except the odd noodle at home and my headroom needs have be met by my Elf head which has less than half the power of this so this has sat unused for nearly 10 years. The gig bag is pretty cool in that all of the outputs are accessible from back when you unzip it but it also has some velcro pads to stop it moving on your cab and a strap to stop it falling out the back. Even though it's discontinued, the specs are still on the Markbass website: https://www.markbass.it/product/lmk/ Anyone is welcome to come and try out in Brighton. The price includes UK postage.

I got this a few years back with the idea that my other half might take up the bass, something that never happened. Anyway, I fell in love with the beautiful rubbery sound of a short scale with flats myself and kept it for a few years. I've done plenty of jazz jam sessions and the odd jazz gig with this and it's perfect for that. With the tone open, you get McCartney type tones and rolled off sounds almost upright like. The pickup is fantastic. I'm selling as I have too many basses and I'm decluttering my life right now. Condition wise, it's used not abused. It's nearly 20 years old and it's been played so it's on the good side of what you might expect. There's a small crack in the lacquer at the back of the headstock and a tiny crack in the paint at the neck joint. A couple of dings in the top of the headstock and some blemishes in the finish. It's got Thomastik flats on it which I put on about 6-7 years ago and they have remained since. I'd prefer local pickup in Brighton but I'll post at buyers expense. Thanks for looking.

Squier body - not sure what kind. Vintage style bridge. Stew Mac own brand pickups. Stew Mac control package (I think they're CTS pots). Generic pickguard. The weight of body with neck is just under 8lb 12oz. The pickups are embarrassingly nice - the bass sounds as good if not better than my late 70s P. They have a bit more warmth to them. Price includes UK delivery or you can come to Brighton. Obvs, this is body only, neck not included. Listed as part of a complete bass here:

Mexican P neck The neck is basically unplayed. Frets have zero wear and truss rod is perfect. The neck had 70s style tuners on it and whoever fitted them must have been a bit ham fisted as they snapped a couple of screws in the holes. I was going to rout them out and plug the holes but decided to fit lighter weight tuners instead and the bass it is attached to balances much better on the strap so I've just left things as they are. Gear 4 Music has them at £249 without tuners and with mine you get the benefit of having had the nut filed as well. Price includes UK postage. Obvs this is neck only, body not included. More pics here:

The parts are as follows: Mexican P neck (Player series I think). Squier body with a bit of perhaps not strictly honest wear. Vintage style bridge. Stew Mac own brand pickups. Stew Mac control package (I think they're CTS pots). Fender stamped neck plate. Generic pickguard. The neck is basically unplayed. Frets have zero wear and truss rod is perfect. Strung with Pyramid flats. The neck had 70s style tuners on it and whoever fitted them must have been a bit ham fisted as they snapped a couple of screws in the holes. I was going to rout them out and plug the holes but decided to fit lighter weight tuners instead and the bass balances much better on the strap so I've just left things as they are. The weight is just under 8lb 12oz and balances well for a bass this light. The pickups are embarrassingly nice - the bass sounds as good if not better than my late 70s P. They have a bit more warmth to them. Price includes UK delivery or you can come to Brighton. Bits listed separately here:

Tom bought a jazz bass from me. Super easy guy to deal with. He sorted a courier to pick the bass up and there were good comms throughout. Would deal with Tom against without hesitation. Top BC'er.

A bit of neck butchery didn't do Jaco any harm.

Apparently it's the mix of modern and vintage features. This is from Fender's own blurb: LIMITED QUANTITY The Made in Japan Hybrid II is a series worthy of being called a "hybrid", as it retains its vintage looks and incorporates almighty modern specs for any player or music genre. Regardless of rhythm or lead, we have created a product that combines playability and instrumental tone that fits any guitarist or bassist. I think in the case of this bass the vintage is the passive electronics and the 20 fret neck. The modern is the through body stringing option, the tuners and the bridge. I bought it as I wanted a totally no frills instrument with decent playability and build quality and I also wanted a heel adjust truss rod as I'm old school in that regard - rightly or wrongly I think they are more reliable than bullets or other headstock adjust truss rods.

I got this to use as a headphone practice amp and to use as an input to my audio interface. It has an aux input so you can play along to backing tracks and drum loops. It has eq and clean/fuzz settings. You can DI it or plug phones in. I'm not using this anymore as my new amp has its own aux input. These are £129 at Thomann. Price includes UK postage. https://www.palmer-germany.com/en/products/guitar-amplifiers/5140/pocket-amp-bass?c=2153

I managed to strip the truss rod on this neck so got a luthier to take off the skunk stripe, fit a new truss rod and put a new skunk stripe in. After putting the neck back on, the a crack appeared between the top inlay and the nut with the truss rod at full adjustment. I've played this for a while with either light (39-96) labella flats or thomasik jazz rounds/jazz flats and there's minimal relief and the action is good. With higher tension strings, e.g. DR Legend the relief is creeping out beyond the 1mm mark which results in action too high for my tastes. If you're looking to put together a 70s build on a budget an you're not wanting high tension string or you're too fussed about a super low action, this should be fine. This is the original model with rosewood rather than pau ferro board. Price includes UK postage.
