1.
Seat? We'll all be dancing won't we??? I only live over the road so I'll be there before heading to Ghwdihw to check out Scribble Soundsystem which is our singer's other project.
Lovely! Hope to catch you!
2. For anyone in the Cardiff area that wants to come along... Nation Stack The Claude Albany Road - Cardiff 28th April - 9-11pm We will be playing a selection of Northern Soul, Motown, Funk and other popular modern soulful songs. It gets pretty packed in there, so I would attempt to get there early (8ish) to get a good seat. It would be great to see you!
3. My soul band was a 9 piece and we cut the horn players because we were struggling to find venues that would pay what we wanted. We are now a 7 piece and we are still struggling to find gigs that will pay our fee. Our price is negotiable, but as soon as the fee drops low enough not to even cover our travel expenses we bail out. Small to medium size venues simply don't have the money these days, so a lot of our gigs are now private bookings.
4. PM'd about the SYB-5
5. Kens work is simply exquisite. You don't see these instruments up for sale very often. The chambered models are breathtaking.
6.
First reply on this: http://www.jeepforum...inions-1149721/
I peed a little when I read that! Classic!!
7. I used rounds on my old fretless P and ruined the fingerboard. Cost me a few quid to sand the fingerboard before I could sell it on. I knew I was causing damage, but I don't like the feel of flats even though I do prefer the tone.
8. I have used rosewood fingerboards since day one, but I am switching over to maple. I really like the extra percussive clarity and attack it provides to the overall tone. The only draw back about maple for me is cleaning. Rosewood is way more easier to maintain.
9. Such a shame you don't think you will play it much, especially after waiting so long for it. I am placing an order with Jon in the summer to build me a J bass in addition to the Uberhorn he is currently building for me, so this would be tempting. Despite of the metro-sexual colour (which I actually like very much on this bass!), I do prefer 24 fret necks. One of my students has some inheritance money that is burning a hole in her pocket and is looking to upgrade. She loves anything pink, so this might be up her street! She has a lesson booked with me this Thursday, so I will mention this bass to her and I will PM you.
10. How many is too many? If your single - no limit If your not - none (if they had their own way!)
11.
NJE I A/B'd the Reidmar against a littlemark III and I reckon it was waaaay better, and nearly half the price!!...and not yellow!
Hehe!! That's the only thing I didn't like about the LMIII I had. Looked like it was designed for ages 4-8yrs! I still think they are great sounding amps though.
12. Ok...here's the acoustic basses I like Warwick Alien Breedlove Atlas Boulder Creek EBR My local store has a Breedlove Atlas (Studio model I think...rosewood back and sides) and sounds absolutely stunning. Plays beautifully too. I was going to buy one one myself a year ago to use on my friends acoustic album, but that project fell through. Definately worth taking a look at.
13. Once again, a stunning instrument from Jon Shuker. Absolutely gorgeous! Congrats mate!
14. Whats your budget?
15. Does the string feel floppy under your picking finger or fretting fingers? (bare with me...I am going somewhere with this)
16.
Yup...I had the same response about my Corvette Proline when I bought it! Well...the comments were "Looks like a dildo!"
17.
Corvettes were ruined for me by a mate, who, when he first saw my Corvette, said of the top horn "That looks like a bit like a nob."
Yup...I had the same response about my Corvette Proline when I bought it!
18. AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!! I have been waiting for one of these to come up on ebay for ages. Now that this one is up I haven't got the bloody sterlings for it because I recently paid Jon Shuker for the bass that he is building for me! My missus would kill me if I bought it For anyone thinking about placing a bid for this bass...do it! These basses are stunning instruments and have been on my wish list for years. I highly recommend them.
19. This is probably the only MM bass I haven't played and very hard to find in stock anywhere in the UK. Not really interested in buying one, but very intrigued about them. Does a BC member have one? What is it like? The pickup switching and EQ system looks mental!
20. The tone is very versatile and very comfortable to play. I don't really care much about cosmetic design...I have owned a few Warwicks and they look like a stepped on piece of chewing gum!
21. I have had 4, 5 and 6 string basses and I feel more settled with 5's. I have considered just sticking to a 5, but I do often switch over to a 4. My Warwick Thumb is one of the best 4 string bass I have ever had and I still really enjoy playing it. I sometimes get pain in the back of my fretting hand if I play a lot of consecutive hours on a 5, so I will switch over to 4 just to give my hand a rest.
22.
Sorry for the correction but both EBS Neoline 110 and 112 are 8 Ohm cabs!
Oh yeah...that's right. Dunno how I missed that!
23. I use my Reidmar with an EBS Neo 210 and it's plenty loud (for small gigs). Much louder than my old Mark Bass LMIII. Very deceptive and shockingly powerful for a 250w head. I have even used it through my Pro 410 cab with great results. I love EBS cabs as they suit my tone requirements very well. My tone is very flat and I don't get that problem and I can really crank the cabs, but I have read feedback on the interweb from other players that play with a fuller tone struggling with break up in the lower frequencies. I have used the Reidmar through an Ampeg PN 210 and it definately had much more balls in the bottom end. I have also played the Reidmar through a Berg 112 at Bass Direct a few weeks ago and sounded awesome. If you are planning to add a second cab to the Reidmar I would stay away from the EBS Neo cabs as they are 4ohm thus limiting you to one cab. The Classic cabs are 8ohms and have a rounder tone than the Pro and Neo models. I have read that the Classic 110+112 is a very tasty configuration and quite pokey. Plus, they are very good value for money! Both of those cabs (combined) cost less than my Neo 210!!
24. I can see the appeal. Rickies have a very distinctive tone, just as P and J basses, MM's...and so on. Not my bag at all. I think my basses are lush, but a few of my bass playing buddies can't stand playing them, so beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder.
25. I have a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+. None of my pedals hum with that PSU, but I have had problems with other brands.
