Is there no limit to what this man can do? Never thought I would live to see the day that Pinot would play for NIN!

I have always used Dunlop strap locks. Never let me down

FINISHED Shuker 5-string Buckeye Burl Singlecut
shizznit replied to RichValentine's topic in Build Diaries
Bloody hell Rich...that looks belting! Can't wait to see it when it's finished -
Some folks will upload pics of a hired model to advertise their gear, but there is a line not to cross... http://r.ebay.com/lyx6uD

I have seen worse, but I agree...that bass is in dire need of a good clean. That fingerboard is stinking.
Shizznit, they're both Buck-eye Burl...I totally agree. If I hadn't needed to sell the Elite, it would still be with me! The Jazz makes up for the loss in more ways than one Your Uberhorn looks great...I remember watching it unfold on the build diary. The reverse headstock looks interesting. Did you decide to do it for the string tension?
String tension was secondary really. I do like more tension on the lighter strings, but the primary reason was that I love reversed headstocks. I'm a big Hendrix fan! I have owned a couple of guitars with reverse headstocks, but never a bass. I have two more Shuker builds in the pipeline. A 4 string J and a 5 string bass for recording (haven't decided which model yet). Jon and I have already discussed the jazz and I should be placing that order with him very soon. That will have a reverse headstock too! The other bass can wait until next year as I am not desperate for it yet.
Thanks shizznit. Just a hint of stingray but with it's own definite style. Wonder what MOXYBASS' instrument sounds like. I know. Never happy.
I agree. The natural mid range is very MM like, but has quite a bit more spank in the high frequencies. It's a lively bugger! It was designed to be that way, but as you can hear from that jazz piece that I put together it warms up beautifully and the mid range still shines very clearly and produces a very nice growl. Very versatile for a single pick up bass.

The popular myth about Bernard's tone is the MM bass. He recorded a lot with a P bass too. Later on towards the end of his life he also used G&L and Spector basses. So, the choice of bass is not really the key to his tone. I try to get as close to his tone for a few recording jobs and get nowhere near. I find that lots of mid, bit of bass boost and quite a bit of treble cut gets good results. I have tried flats and rounds and I still struggle to get the Bernard tone. Technique is the key. I have watched his playing very closely and Bernard had a very light touch. Maybe has a lot to do with it. Let's face it guys, he was a one off. The only person that sounds like Bernard is Bernard.

My dad is a big fan. Just text him about his passing and didn't know. He's gutted. I grew up listening to his albums. Very sad loss indeed. RIP Paco

Snarky Puppy UK tour - anyone else going?
shizznit replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
A friend of mine has blagged me a ticket for the Scala gig in May. Really looking forward to this one -
I personally have never played through an ACME can, but all of the reviews and feedback I have read is that they have the flatness of an EA Whizzy, but with the bottom end of an elephant! I think that Stephan Lessard from Dave Matthews Band used them for a short time and I can remember a comment that he made about them being like a FOH speaker.
I'd love to hear what the Uberhorn sounds like.
Click on my soundcloud channel link at the bottom of my signature. I put together 3 quick sound clips of the Überhorn. I have done quite a few recordings with it lately and hopefully those releases will be out soon. I will upload samples of those songs to my soundcloud as soon as I can. The bass sounds awesome in the studio despite not really being designed for that purpose.

Fascination Street is my all time fav Cure song. That song sums up the band in 4mins
-
I watched it too. Really enjoyed it. Timeless

I was a big Cure fan when I was a kid, but fell out of interest when I started to listen to other music genres. I have been listening to some of their albums this morning and it has only been until now that I have recognised how much of a great bass player Simon Gallup is. Anyone else agree?

That's something I would also like to know. What ever the figures are, they will be impressive. My EBS amps are probably the most efficient amps I have ever used.
-
That is looking very sweet! Do you know the rough completion date yet?
I bought my 55 01 as back up for my Stingray. The Stingray now rarely gets an outing. For the money I think you'd struggle to find a better made/sounding bass. Love mine!
That's how I ended up with mine. I too bought my Lakland as a backup to my MM Stingray 5, but became my #1 within weeks. I haven't owned another MM Stingray since.

My 55-02 (see my avatar) is the most versatile bass in my collection. It's an early model (#24 in fact!) with Bart's and preamp. I use the bass almost exclusively for my recording jobs. It sounds awesome no matter which style of music I use it for. It plays beautifully...I can play it for hours with very little strain. Every bit as enjoyable as the American made instruments for almost half the price. The only criticism about my bass is that the preamp lacks a bit is headroom compared to my other basses. It's not a huge issue in the studio, but if I am using it live and I have to switch basses you can notice the drop.

I don't think that The Innocent Criminals play for Ben Harper these days. Shame.

I am a huuuuuuge Juan Nelson fan. I have ripped off so many of his chops over the past several years! I was at this gig at Earls Court when this performance was recorded. Awesome evening. http://youtu.be/z52rhGypiy0

I had one of these many moons ago as a back up bass. Played beautifully and sounded pretty good for the price. The only con for me was that mine was a bit neck dive happy.

I had a Knucklehead K100 head years ago. Great sounding amps and I guess you could say they are like a steroid raging Fender! The tone is very similar to a Fender black face. They have more headroom than a Fender and certainly more power…they really like to be cranked! Next to other boutique amps that are more expensive it really holds it own. I would certainly recommend taking a look at a Rivera before considering a Diezel, Mesa etc...
