1. 17k for me. At 34yrs old, I am quite happy with that.
 2. Always fancied a T shaped bass. Not really into the G&L ASAT basses and there isn't much else out there to choose from. Can't wait to see your bass! Recently placed an order with Jon, but I might change my mind about the spec if I fancy yours!
 3. My staple diet of FX pedals are an octaver, envelope filter and fuzz. Anything else is just for giggles!
 4. I would never get the job. Don't have the right hair!
 5.
Must get some pics of my "Hawaiian Shirt" themed paintjob on my Marlin Sidewinder
Now that I gotta see!!
 6. I like this part of the specs...

Pickguard: Special Custom Mirror Pickguard
Well, duh!? What other features of this bass aren't 'custom'?
 7. There's only one person who will play a Bootsy Star Bass and won't look like a prat...Bootsy himself!
 8.
Tru dat. The covers band I'm in feature mainly Stax-type songs from the 60s/70s.
We try to fit our sets to the venue or occasion. We can get invited to play a Mod meets quite often and we can play more unknown Northern Soul and Stax songs (even Ska) that we couldn't get away with in a pub. For weddings we play the same songs that The Commitments covered and for pub/clubs we will throw in some to date chart acts like Ce Lo Green, Maverick Sabre, Duffy, Amy Winehouse etc etc.. We played a Rosetta Hightower song at a Mod gig last November which went down a storm then fell on it's ass at a workmans club gig the following week. For this style of music it's a very fine balancing act to play songs that folks will recognise and enjoy.
 9.
'Wrist Slashing'... is that a genre?
We categorise our songs. For example...

Wrist Slasher - Amy Winehouse (Back to Black)
Thigh Grinder - Santana (Smooth)
Ear Bleeder - Aretha Franklin (Respect)
Butlins Caberet - Songs that you would hear played at a family holiday camp
W*nker - Cream (Sunshine of Your Love). We play a really funked up version of this song with a stupidly long guitar solo. We give this category to any song that has a guitar solo!
Ankle Twister - James Brown (Get Up Offa That Thing) - songs like that give folks a delusion that they can actually dance and hurt themselves!
10.
A Cardiff band doing Curtis Mayfield? What band are you in?
The band is called Nation Stack. We play soul/motown, funk and even ska if asked!
In response to the OP, I don't hate the punters for having a good time, but when they just stand and watch a funk band I either think that we haven't hit the groove or they're dead from the waist down!
Hehe! Yeah, we get that problem every now and again. We used to play the Theme From Shack and Jungle Boogie which fell on deaf ears. But, as soon as we play a wrist slashing Amy Winehouse song the dance floor is rammed. Go figure!
 11. My Lakland 55-02 is the only piece of kit which is unique. It's #42 ever made and was used at the NAMM show as a showpiece donkey years ago when they launched the Skyline range. The only 55-02 ever painted in Inca Silver! I bought it in mint condition from a collector when I was living in the States. When I contacted Lakland after I bought it to see if the bass was authentic and they told me that they put a Skyline neck onto a 55-94 body, so I guess it's a frankenstein 55-02!
 12. My old man once said to me that when Gibson launched the Explorer and Flying V nobody bought into them because they were aesthetically unpleasing and too radical. My dad actually bought a Flying V and was laughed at for a while. But, they did eventually evolve into appeal and fashion and still selling after all these years. However, I am quietly confident that a few folks won't be trading in their PRS CU 10-top for one of these puppies!
 13. I have been on the covers circuit with a band for about 3yrs now and one thing I have learnt is give the crowd what they want. It's a very selfless job. When I am out and listen to yet another covers band play Sex on Fire I don't feel contempt to the people singing and dancing to it as much it bugs me personally. That band has tapped into what they enjoy hearing and fair play to them. I can let it go over my head as much as the band can.
 14. Oh gosh...if you thought that one was off the wall, have a look at this one! 15. Looking to buy a new Fender Tele and stumbled across this on eBay... 16.
The longer I look for one 'really good' bass, the more I'm regretting selling my Overwater.
I miss mine too, but that was taken away from me rather than passing it on! The MTD was the replacement. I only had the Overwater for about a year before it was stolen, so I didn't really get that attached to it.
 17.
I've just had a kid, and so am on a hiatius from my band. However, I saw our drummer in town this weekend, and asked him how my dep, an old mate of our guitarist who I didn't knw at all, was going. He's been a musician for forty years, apparently, and a pro at that. I was apprehensive that I'd been replaced all too easily. I'm a self-taught amateur with a taste for being a bit too loud. A proper bassist of the old school would walk all over me. "Erm, you see," he started. This is it, I thought, I was going to get the sack. "He got drunk and mucked up all of the second set. I can't work with him at all. We need you back, mate!" Felt pretty good...
I can relate to that. I moved to the US for just over a year and the band I was playing for before I left the UK replaced me with 2 different players within that time. When they heard I was back in the country they wanted me back in because the guys that they brought in struggled to play my lines. I found that a bit odd because I thought that my bass lines weren't that difficult to play and the first guy they hired was way more suited and skilled to that style of music than I was. I even emailed them tabs when I was over there! When I met the singer he said that it was the 'feel' that was missing. Technical ability is one thing, but every musician has their own musical voice and character and sometimes that can't be replaced.
 18.
Its a shame i never really got on with mine when i had it, i do now regret selling it. Not keen on the Skyline colours though, i still prefer the Black sparkle
Ooooooo!!! That's a stunner!
 19. I finally parted with my MTD 535 last night after 8yrs of ownership and I am feeling quite gutted about it. I have owned lots of basses that I have passed on with no regrets, but I walked into my music room this morning whilst getting ready for work and saw an empty space in the corner where the MTD used to live and that's when the penny dropped...I am never going to play that bass ever again! I sold it for three reasons...

I hardly touched it. I bought it for studio use only, but over time I started to prefer other instruments and so did some of the engineers that I have worked with over the past few years. My Lakland seems to get a few more smiles when I switch to it, even though I thought the MTD sounded awesome anyway.
The string spacing was a little too much for me and my fretting hand fatigued very quickly whilst playing it, so if I was in an all-day session it used to kill me.
Need to finance a new custom build for a bass that is more comfortable for me and will get more use.
I know that I have sold the bass with good intentions, but it was the most amazing instrument I have ever owned. It's gone to friend that is a pro player and he has been using it over the past few weeks. He has really connected with it and it will serve him better than it ever did with me. That makes me feel a bit better I guess, but not much! Even though I didn't play the MTD much whenever I picked it up and had a pluck it always brought a smile to my face. The tone was gorgeous and the burl top was ever so pretty. Probably the only instrument I have owned that I had a genuine sentimental attachment to. Have you ever sold a bass that you wished you kept hold of?
 20. The only time I get narked with the punters is when they invite themselves onto the stage. Partly because it's a distraction, but mostly for their safety. They can do whatever they like off the stage...dance, sing, fight each other...whatever makes them enjoy the evening. We had a bloke strip infront last year whilst playing a Curtis Mayfeild song. We saw a white shoe fly over our heads and when we looked down to the dance floor there he was on display. He had a great night out! We continue to play that song in his honour.
 21. So glad that they brought them back into production. Probably my fav model. Still waiting for Lakland to produce a 24 fret bass.
 22.
Schizznit, did you stand the 210 on its side to create more height? I wonder if that has any bearing on the directional issue. I know I stand my Classic 112 on its side to get more height. The clipping is a bit odd. The Reidmar would had been pushing out 250w into the 4 ohms Neo 210 but by the sounds of it you were not anywhere near max volume of the Reidmar so a little odd. Was it an active bass at all?
I do stand the cab on it's side or on top of a flight case. I was using the Lakland, but I use it passive mode for this band. It was clipping using either passive or active in fact. I used my HD350 head last night and it was fine...no clipping at all at the same volume.
 23. Gig report! Reidmar + Neo 210 Played with it on Wednesday and last night. First and foremost, it kicks major ass! Plenty of volume on tap and incredibly clear and punchy. I have used the Pro 210 with this amp and there is a subtle difference at full pelt. The Neo is a bit more barky in tone. Definately a bit more mid strength compared to the Pro cab. Even my drummer noticed! Acoustically this cab is a bit strange. It's very directional. When you stand to the side of it it sounds quite quiet, but when you stand infront of it it really slaps you in the face! I am DI'd through the FOH these days so I don't need this rig to fill the room, but I did give it the beans when the PA was off. It is a little bit too thin to do that and I am sure a 212 or 115 can below would sort that. I could crank up the Reidmar a couple more notches higher with the Neo 210, but I noticed a bit of clipping. Haven't been able to put my finger on it yet as the speakers aren't moving frantically even at that high volume. Not sure if the amp is doing that or the cab, but I don't get that problem using my other cabs. I'll keep my eye on that.
 24.
If you're a practical bass-player, likely to trade and replace kit over time, then just be aware that you will almost certainly lose the great majority of the value if you buy from a relatively unknown luthier.
That's a valid point. Custom hand made basses from unknown luthiers are very difficult to sell on for a decent price. Just search on eBay and see how many hand made basses done by hobbiests are selling for peanuts.
 25. Is anyone feeling insecure reading this thread yet? LOL!
