  1. Yes, always, and have needed the spare once. The active bass I'd used in rehearsal two days before a festival gig decided to allow a solder joint to come apart on the battery connector. Completely dead bass on stage with a few hundred people waiting... Spare to the rescue - utter terror dissipated... If I don't know the venue I take a 32" scale spare so I can use that if space is particularly tight.
  2. I can see your point, personally I tried just plugging straight in and they seemed to spin about and open up a bit. Plus, if I'm honest, I prefer the aesthetic of a right angle cable to the transmitter sticking out.
  3. I've seen the Xvive pouches, a bit small for my transmitter unfortunately.
  4. It's around the back, have to be particularly flexible to pull that off 😉 It is a worthwhile point though - swapping for a plastic nut and bolt will be the Mk2 - cheers!
  5. Hi all I use a bug type wireless transmitter and prefer to attach it to my strap via a cable rather than just plug it in to the bass. I have a moulded block that I bought when I had a Smoothhound but wanted to have something on other straps ready. The pouch type holders that I've seen aren't really designed for the bugs. So, I'm going to try this. A Rean NYS236 connector and a plastic P Clamp with a little nut and bolt. The bolt could be a little shorter, but it looks like it'll work.
  6. Gah! I've been gassing and watching for one of these to show up for months. Literally just crumbled and bought a new one two weeks ago! Lovely bass, only had one rehearsal with mine has a really big, fat sound but also defined in the mix. My band are happy!
  7. Loving my Sire P5 passive - it's become my go to gigging bass and is surprisingly flexible tone wise for a simple p bass design.
  8. Ours is 8x4, I thought it may be a little small but actually is just right. We usually mount it on a photography screen stand but occasionally have to gaffer or bungy it. Definitely get a cloth one, not a vinyl one as they are much easier to fold up. We have rings all around ours to help tension it with chords. Lighting not great in photos below but should give you an idea of size. We have QR codes for FB and Insta on it too.
  9. If you do go down this route I found this particular cab opened up nicely after a couple of loud rehearsals, think the drivers need a little playing in so if you were to try one then make sure you can do so when you've a chance to push it a bit. Should have mentioned that I used to tilt the 112 with a wedge to hear it well, but the 208 seems OK without. Still love my Bergs thundering away on full chat, but the reality is that's just not what the gigs I do require (largish pubs, occasional parties and small festivals) and always with full PA and with everything mic'd.
  10. Previous to this I was using one of my Bergantino 1x12s for smaller gigs - they are the version with ceramic drivers so a bit heavier. The Bergs are 8ohm and 350w rated. They sound great ( particularly if using two) but I wanted something that could tick over at lower volumes yet still take the full juice from my amp. I find that the GR208 has ample bottom end and is a bit tighter sounding than the 112. It probably gets louder too when pushed. It has SICA drivers which I believe are well rated. My Bergs now constitute a 'big rig' but I don't have much need any more really and they haven't come out gigging since I got this. This mini rig fits my needs well and I can drive my amp a bit harder without getting crazy loud.
  11. I've been using this for the last few months and loving it. It's a 500w 2x8 4ohm GR Bass cab (wooden one not carbon) paired with my GK MB Fusion 500 (I've taken the sticker off, don't worry!😉) It's punchy, light and loud enough on it's own and sounds like a bass cab should. We always take out our 'small pa' now, which has 12" subs and tops and so depending on the venue I can blend a bit in as required and keep backline down. I have also started using my VT Bass DI by velcroing it to the top of the amp and taking a parallel (clean) feed to the amp - so I can EQ FOH and set my PA /IEM sound separately to the amp. This seems to work well and I've already been able to mitigate a 'bass trap' corner on the amp whilst maintaining bottom end through the PA. Typically I do a quick soundcheck with the backline muted, get a good sound FOH then unmute and blend in the backline volume - works well.
  12. Mine in the video above is active btw. So that is quite a difference.
  13. I have a 32" 5 string RB Corvette and a 34" 5 string German Corvette. I'd agree with the above that the RB isn't quite the same sound as the German version but it's still very good. Probably my punchiest bass and I have no complaints. If it helps I've linked a live video of my band that I'm using it in, just a phone recording but may be useful.
  14. I have a mate, Phil, who is known for being quite loud, especially after a beer or two - he is of course known as 'Phil the Noize.' Right, back on topic Bring the Noise - Public Enemy/Anthrax
  15. Sorted
  16. I use one of these and find it ideal for gigging with - it's designed to go into an amp or DI rather than straight to the desk, that's what the Helixy things with the amp sims are for really. This is just effects. I currently run it into my VT Bass DI for FOH and take a parallel clean output from the DI to my amp so I can tweak FOH and stage sound separately. One thing, I found the sounds improved greatly with some appropriate HPF and LPF cuts at each end.
  17. I'm very happily gigging with my GR Bass GR208. 500 Watts and 4 ohm and makes me wonder if I'll ever use my big rig again
  18. I'm liking the flats feel, one thing I think they do lack compared to rounds though is an aggressive slide sound. But the reduction in finger noise is good overall. I usually play active, but with the passive Sire and flats I find I can abuse the strings a bit more without getting 'too much' - still getting used to them really.
  19. These are Dunlops that I had previously tried on my Sandberg and not really liked. But they work well on the Sire. Can't string through body though. I'm not Flats expert, always been a rounds guy but think I get them now 😉
  20. Two good purchases for me. Sire P5, 5 string passive. Never had a P bass and I wasn't shelling out for a USA Fender. It's rather good now I'm getting used to the tone ( different from my Warwick!) even put flats on it. The tort scratchplate had to go though 😉 Also, my GR208 cab. 500 watts and 4 ohm, only 10kg. As we always have full PA now think this may be the death of my big rig. Awesome little thunder box.
  21. Dads of the Stone Age
  22. I got mine as a bit of an experiment, I've never had a passive P or anything without two pickups. I stuck flats on it too, again something new. It's a different fit in the mix and my band really like it, I miss a bit of 'snarl ' but nobody else seems to 😉 Great bass and I'm gigging it.
  23. Weirdly after many years of gigging this will be my first new years eve gig. Big lively pub in the centre of Ipswich. Probably be carnage, excellent! 🤣
  24. I recently got a Sire Passive P5 5 string and am liking it, especially the neck - prices seem to vary, mine was a good deal as at the time it was the last one in stock at Bax - they seem to drop prices when they get low on stock - after I ordered it the price for the same model on order went up to the market rate.
