  1. Well, ok then 😁 Took it to the studio for rehearsal last night, it managed to attract a small crowd from the other rehearsal rooms. Sexy beast !
  2. Bloody hell it's good! πŸ™‚
  3. Thanks for the advise all - my GAS got the better of my and an NG2 is due to arrive any minute now! πŸ˜ƒ
  4. Thanks guys, think I'm leaning towards an NG2 ( the Darkglass preamp is swaying me - the eq points look good) - I can experiment then with moving the pick ups easily enough.
  5. Thanks all - I play in a (pretty punchy) rock and pop covers band and currently use my Sandberg California which has a J/MM configuration - the MM can be split so the bass also operates as J/J. It is massively flexible tone wise. I like that flexibility and do use it πŸ™‚ - consequently I'm not wedded to one particular sound, as long as it's tight and has 'authority' - I like to be able to drive my sound harder just by digging in finger style (though I use plenty of pedals too!) That's what I was thinking - hence favouring the Combustion with 2 pick ups. So I can solo the neck, or use both on. Does the third pick up add much really with all three on? I did like the grindy tone of the NG3 that I tried (only Dingwall in the shop) but I also felt that third pick up was a bit redundant in that. Would I like a Stingray sound? It's a great sound but it's not a deal breaker - I suppose if it was 3 pick up version I imagine I'd want Neck/Neck and Bridge/Middle and Bridge as the options -which isn't standard.
  6. I've found Dood's excellent reviews of the 2 pick up versions, anyone have any input on the difference that 3 pick up models make? Cheers
  7. Hi all I'm fancying a Dingwall - it'll be either a Combustion or an NG, just can't justify a Canadian version. So, I understand the different PUP and Pre-amp configurations but I just wondered if anyone has experience of them and can comment on how they differ tonally? My gut feel is a two pick up Combustion is probably for me - but be good to hear any first hand input on the differences/benefits of the different versions. Cheers Jason
  8. Not this week anyway.... 😁
  9. I hope I'm not breaking any rules - but if you decide you do want one my guitarist Matt, is selling one at the moment. It's up on FB marketplace - but I can connect you if required πŸ™‚
  10. Hi all A couple of reviews of this online - anyone tried one? Looks a tidy little thing. http://plutoneium.com/index.php/product/bass-keyboards-guitar-wah.html Cheers
  11. derrière - I must be a year older than I thought
  12. I was in the crowd at Wembley Arena when in 1990 when Slayer recorded their video for War Ensemble - it was quite insightful to metal bands attitude at the time. Tom explained that they were going to do a video, that they hadn't really done one before and that they were going to sing and play but it would be to a recorded track - this, they'd been told, was how it was done but they wanted to be honest about it before they started. Now, this isn't metal at all and the whole of the assembled masses went 'ooh' and started grumbling immediately - the band looked actually pretty shaken by the response, Tom tried to explain - then lost his rag and stormed back stage - I was up the side and could see lots of pointing, shouting, shaking of heads and general gesticulation. Tom, returns - says " F 'em - we're doing it live." Crowd very happy - it's a crap video though \m/ πŸ˜‚
  13. White Encore PJ - it was bought for me by colleagues as a leaving present in late 80's/early 90's. I said I'd like a book about learning to play and was going to buy the bass myself but they had a whip round and got enough for the bass. Which was awesome, apart from then having it thrust in my hands and being requested to 'give us a tune' in front of about 120 people - I had no idea at all at this point, complete beginner. It did me well to learn and has been lent out to numerous other learners since - now residing in the loft, still sporting a yellowing address label with Steve Harris's signature stuck on it.
  14. Yes, I thought that too - obviously, I'm not about to do that - I might drop him a line.
  15. My EBay seller obviously has got a bit confused- an apologetic note on the listing now. Will take PayPal but collection only. Item is boxed, so I suppose arranging a normal courier collection is now plausible πŸ€”
  16. Wow - thanks that might be an option. It's actually a keytar for our singer. Only thing is we'd still need it posted, which might be too much of an imposition.
  17. Coincidences all around 😁 I'm on the river Colne estuary and this part of Essex is where Witchfinder Hopkins operated.
  18. Cheers- I think he's just not that clued up. Never heard of Nelson the town before, Paul 5's comment makes it sound 'interesting ' πŸ€”πŸ˜
  19. Hi all, I'm trying to buy an item of EBay - it's in the frozen north, a town called Nelson near Burnley. I am in that long way away Essex. Seller seems legit but inexperienced and ( understandably ) prefers cash on collection. Have any of you found a service our courier that will check goods match description, pay the cash when picking up and ship the item? Cheers Jason
  20. I use wireless, rechargeable dongles to connect our lights via dmx - a few less cables to run is always good. Mine are made by Donner - so far been great
  21. I think that's Billy's grindy tone mostly, but there might be a bit of extra modulation in there - maybe a bit of chorus or something. I got one of the EBS Billy Sheehan Deluxe pedals a while back and it's great for that grindy tone - never had so much gain on tap, but somehow still controllable. This'd be my tip for a first pedal solution to try.
