Is there a bass somewhere that doesn’t “play like a dream”?

Ultimate Hard Rock / Metal Covers set - what's in it?

Some good stuff in there Graham - we've got a few of them already. Which would you pick out of that set as being 'the best' - love this auto correct thing 'whizzed off' indeed :-) -
Ultimate Hard Rock / Metal Covers set - what's in it?

"Good Bass work out" is about right - good shout though! -
Hi all One of my bands is the dreaded 'hard rock/metal covers band' - so if you're sniffy about those - move on to something more palatable now . We've had a girl singer until recently and have just settled on a replacement (due to young kids and sleep deprivation!) - who's a bloke and very different. Bit of a rock belter, in the Bon Scott sort of range. We've also been fancying going a bit heavier recently so this should fit well. We've got loads of old fart Dad rock in the back catalogue already but room for a bit more and some new stuff - we're having to drop quite a lot of material as they are female centric songs (the thought of a 17 stone, bald guy singing 'All I wanna do is make love to you', 'beach' or 'You oughta know' is funny and disturbing in equal measure...) We do this for fun - not looking for loads of well paid gigs - just rocking nights out with appropriate crowds 'giving it some.' Two capable guitarists (so dual leads/ harmonies are possible) - drummer solid, but not that hot on the old double kicking - though he covers it pretty well. So, just for fun really - what would be your suggestions for our "Ultimate Hard Rock / Metal Covers set" - down the Dog and Duck.... 1,2,3 - go!

The Big Muff Deluxe is good - but I swapped for the Green Russian re-issue. Another one to check out perhaps? Seems to carry a lot of bottom end so I don't miss the blend.

I'm thinking more about something along the larger side to cover up the dartboard, meat raffle posters and other random pub stuff than trying to use it for promoting the band in particular. I like the idea of a simple pattern on a black background that would look good under lights. Big enough to reach out either side of the drums and be behind myself and the guitarist. It's the rigging/ lugging of it that makes me wonder if it is worth it.

Hi all I find myself fancying a back drop (something else to occupy my mind rather than bass practice - yeah, I know ..) Never had one before in any of my bands and they aren't that common around my way, those that do are mostly originals bands (which makes sense.) So what do you guys think? Pub/club covers band - we've got quite a decent logo worked up, but actually I kind of fancy something other than the band name. Maybe something a bit old school with UV paint and just as a proper backdrop/scene to make the Dog and Duck look a bit different. Work well with the lights etc. So, anyone using one? Are they worth the effort of lugging about? What sort of size is popular/suitable? How do you hang them (just pin them up and risk the landlords wrath or use some sort of frame?) I have had a look at a few threads with recommendations of places to get normal type ones printed up already, but any ideas for something a bit different welcome. Cheers Jason

I think it's worth a little programming- I have static scenes which I tend to just change occasionally during the first set - then a few slow chases for the second set. The chases run on auto, but if I flip to sound to light they go loopy ( say for a solo- but only on a lively track) I also have a couple of Strobey scenes and chases that I can drop in when I feel like it (and can handle the multi tasking 😀)

Does the Ryger work with led lights that have more than just RGB? I looked at them as they are appealing straight forward, but looked to be limited to RGB.

I've got one of the stairville ones and it does the trick, bit of a faff to program and a few quirks but it's ok ( I got a b stock one) - one tip for this unit. I found that it had a delay between patches, going dark for a few seconds before the patch lit. I found that by flicking the unit through all patches once set up, this no longer happened. There's this one out quite recently https://m.thomann.de/gb/eurolite_dmx_move_bigfoot_foot_control.htm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoabh-YOr2AIVDTPTCh0jaAD1EAQYAiABEgL3dvD_BwE and you can go down the laptop and midi route too.

Thanks all - lots of options to consider here. Think a bit of Christmas research will be in order :-)

Thanks! Some handy advice there 😀👍

Hi all I'm not much of a modder - all my basses are as per original, but I'm wondering about 'upgrading' my Warwick Corvette standard (German, bubinga, wenge, MEC Dynamic Correction pups) to active. There's a big old cavity at the back and I'd like a bit more of the famous Warwick growl from this wee beastie. Don't really want to drill new holes, so maybe something with stacked knobs. Anyone done it? Any recommendations for likely pre-amps? Any tips? Cheers Jason

Thanks - interesting stuff. Some good ideas there ?

Hi all, just had our first proper gig with our singer playing keys. All good ? Typical 4 piece covers band but up for trying new stuff. Singer was knocking out a few little techno bits on the keys during sound check and it got me thinking about cross over dance / rave stuff. Anyone attempted anything like Prodigy, Pendulum, Faithless type stuff in a pub - any numbers that worked? Did it die on it's derrière? Cheers Jason

The Rap Thread (new title for an old thread).
redbandit599 replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
I'm a rocker and most rap stuff passed me by to be honest - too much of a fan of live bands over DJs I think. However, I saw a band called The Tribe at my local music festival a couple of years ago and they were brilliant - proper band, got the crowd up and going. My kids still love their CD two years later - check them out if you get the chance :- http://www.thetribalwave.com -
Oh yes

Hi BC I like the threads where we post up stuff we like - it's a great way to find new music and bands etc. I also like stuff that gets the blood pumping faster. I'm into rock and metal - which is obviously mostly meant to be pretty exciting stuff, but there's always those tracks that make you that bit more breathless than others, just listening to them. The ones that you shout yourself hoarse to in the car when no-ones listening and then realise that, yes, you really had better slow down.. I've got loads - lets see what you've got - any genre - just make it really primal, exciting stuff (someone else can start a cerebrally exciting thread..) Here's one of mine - enjoy!

Cheers all - thanks for the suggestions. I tried them all, for now Publisher is the winner for me! Quite pleased with my efforts - even resized this for a Facebook event version. (I know it's easy but it makes me happy )

Thanks both - Silvia, I get the principal of the layers and have even cut out sections of pictures and created shadow layers and stuff. Getting them onto another background ( even just getting another image on the same page) has eluded me though. Resizing and moving the cut out bit also not happening. Any directions to simple instructions welcome, but after 2 frustrating hours with it last night - I think it might not be for me! ?

Thanks both, I'll check those out!

Hi all When I first did the band posters I drew them by hand and photocopied them - I'm now trying to do something a bit more up to date and use Photoshop (the missus has the Elements package) I'd like to be able to do what I think should be pretty straightforward, just copy and paste one image on top of another - stick a border around it - add some text. I see lots of bands doing stuff that looks quite good like this and also making images for their events to share of Facebook etc. I'm not completely tech illiterate but this leaves me stumped and all the Facebook tutorials I've looked at always seem to have something a bit different, or miss a bit I need (like resizing/moving the image to fit once you've superimposed it etc.) Anyone know of a good luddites guide before I get my quill and parchment out again? Cheers Jason
