  1. I'm a rocker and most rap stuff passed me by to be honest - too much of a fan of live bands over DJs I think. However, I saw a band called The Tribe at my local music festival a couple of years ago and they were brilliant - proper band, got the crowd up and going. My kids still love their CD two years later - check them out if you get the chance :- http://www.thetribalwave.com
  2. Hey Jack - at last I know what tune your Spider-Man avatar is dancing too!
  3. That's the bit - it's all good, but that bit just sends me over the top with bad shouty vocals :-)
  4. Hi BC I like the threads where we post up stuff we like - it's a great way to find new music and bands etc. I also like stuff that gets the blood pumping faster. I'm into rock and metal - which is obviously mostly meant to be pretty exciting stuff, but there's always those tracks that make you that bit more breathless than others, just listening to them. The ones that you shout yourself hoarse to in the car when no-ones listening and then realise that, yes, you really had better slow down.. I've got loads - lets see what you've got - any genre - just make it really primal, exciting stuff (someone else can start a cerebrally exciting thread..) Here's one of mine - enjoy!
  5. Cheers all - thanks for the suggestions. I tried them all, for now Publisher is the winner for me! Quite pleased with my efforts - even resized this for a Facebook event version. (I know it's easy but it makes me happy )
  6. Thanks both - Silvia, I get the principal of the layers and have even cut out sections of pictures and created shadow layers and stuff. Getting them onto another background ( even just getting another image on the same page) has eluded me though. Resizing and moving the cut out bit also not happening. Any directions to simple instructions welcome, but after 2 frustrating hours with it last night - I think it might not be for me! ?
  7. Hi all When I first did the band posters I drew them by hand and photocopied them - I'm now trying to do something a bit more up to date and use Photoshop (the missus has the Elements package) I'd like to be able to do what I think should be pretty straightforward, just copy and paste one image on top of another - stick a border around it - add some text. I see lots of bands doing stuff that looks quite good like this and also making images for their events to share of Facebook etc. I'm not completely tech illiterate but this leaves me stumped and all the Facebook tutorials I've looked at always seem to have something a bit different, or miss a bit I need (like resizing/moving the image to fit once you've superimposed it etc.) Anyone know of a good luddites guide before I get my quill and parchment out again? Cheers Jason
  8. Bought a pedal from Lee - excellent comms (even whilst he was on holiday - that's dedication to the BC massive ) Speedy dispatch, all good.
  9. £250-£300 seems to be average- cheapest I've done recently was £150 for a pub that was just starting having bands and didn't know if they'd cover costs. The £150 gig was a belter, we got a couple of drinks thrown in (all driving, but handy) - but we had a great time, I got propositioned mid song, we had people dancing like loons, one old boy who'd been sat by the bar watching intently suddenly leaped from his stool at the beginning of Crazy Train and shouted "Ozzy Ozbourne" with total glee! They even helped us load gear into the cars at the end. Proper fun night - half the wage but much better than a £300 gig with a bunch of disinterested table hoggers. Doesn't hurt to take chance every now and then.
  10. If it helps my Bergantino 112 covers are quite substantial- my two young daughters also enjoy putting them on , with heads through the handle hole, and pretending to be robots....
  11. Thread has gone slightly off topic, but I'm all for Go with the Flow- I actually own one of said Dred Zeppelin albums. Was great fun and ideal for annoying hippies. The Shed 7 anecdote reminds of seeing Terrorvision cover SClub 7 and seeing a lively mosh instantly transform into loads of loons singing and doing the actions to Reach for the Stars. Happy days 😁
  12. Cheers Graham - we'll never get rich doing this, so fun over funds is always our approach. Good to have your input.
  13. Hi all One of my bands has just become singerless - great girl, but baby number 2 has just tipped the balance to not being able to commit to regular rehearsal- so here we go on the hunt again. One idea ( as we all like the heavy stuff - if you don't- move on please😀) is we go heavier. We're a rock/hard rock band anyway. Just interested if anyone is successful playing heavier covers ( not talking classic rock stuff here or the token Enter Sandman) but some classic to more modern metal. Not a fan of screamo but don't mind a bit of growly vocals ( Amon Amarth I like for instance) Any how, what's your experience- are there gigs/ audience out there for this? Any good bands to cover/ tracks etc? Pub gigs - so heavy but fun and accessible I suppose. Two guitars, drums and bass and a singer tbc. Cheers Jason
  14. When doing a version of something, I reckon it's best to learn the original first- then make your own natural changes to make it heavier/ rockier etc. It's a great song, so will go down well in most places. In one of my bands we did something a bit like this with Mama Mia - not quite so quick, girl singer - guaranteed dancers and smiles https://youtu.be/Ql89SQzpquU
  15. Hmm - not sure that it's a covers bands duty to keep everyone dancing all night - depends on the crowd, genre and venues that you play. I love to get the crowd moving and some dancing/rocking out going on - but there's also a lot of people who enjoy stuff and just want to watch the band, shout occasionally and have a beer. I'd say it's a covers bands job to be engaging and entertaining. If you limit success to dancing only then you end up playing as set of the the same old 'Pavlov's Dogs' tracks all night. (Handy as one or two are .) Back on topic - with one of my bands we sit around the guitarists big telly, throw suggestions forward and Youtube them there and then. If it's a goer we know. No-one gets too hung up on their suggestions. As we tend to do regular silent practices round his house in front of said telly, it's a constant drip feed of ideas, usually stuff we've heard on the radio etc. (Radio X and Absolute are where I listen for new stuff.)
  16. That looks a mighty beast ! - may be just the thing to liven up Christmas for the youngsters. Dropped you a Facebook message Steve :-)
  17. Or you could use an EQ pedal, which would give you the option to just boost the frequencies that you want for solos.
  18. Thanks Cuzzie - I think I'm probably leaning towards a pedal type, with a bit of amp like eqing etc.
  19. Hi all Thinking of going down the IEM route, and so maybe either going ampless or backing off the backline volume (now I've bought some subs for the pa, this seems achievable.) So, DI boxes - lots of good recommendations out there, but I like a fairly clean, growly middy basic sound - which I then want to run pedals into to overdrive, flange, synth up etc. So, a good DI with a paralell output - maybe with a bit of valve goodnes in there but not inherently mid scooped AND that takes pedals well. OK Basschat...ready ...set... GO!
  20. Mine comes from my old motorbike, a Suzuki Bandit which I loved but sold (points and self preservation prevailed) but obviously I couldn't spend the proceeds on anything sensible - so that's when I bought my Sandberg, which also had to be red in memory of the 'donor.'
  21. Well, second date with my other band tonight. My new squeeze made quite an impression, all the lads took an immediate shine to this little muff. I am smitten and have asked for her hand in marriage. Tell those other fuzzes, I am off the market.
