  1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - I sort of like them because I remember a few good tunes, on closer inspection though they don't seem to have much to them really. Flea is great, wish I could do that, but.. Not helped by the one time I saw them, they came across as a jam band with a disinterested singer (tbh the crowd were pretty disinterested after a while too.)
  2. You know that feeling when you go on a first date and think you might, just might, have found 'The One' ..... Second date tomorrow night in more refined company- will see if romance blossoms.
  3. It's tricky to get a good live sound without the rest of the band isn't it? I've been through lots of good drive pedals, which obviously work fine for many, but think I'm now happy with the simplest /cheapest one! EHX Bass Soul Food seems to work great for me and in a live setting. Maybe try EQing a bit differently, I've previously found a little boost around 800hz brings out the drive ( on my rig anyway.)
  4. Your band have no taste - it is your mission to educate them in the ways of the BSW. 😃
  5. Hi Pete, that is very kind mate! Thanks mate - a star as always 😀
  6. Forgive my ignorance, but do these interfaces work on tablets as well as pcs?
  7. Thanks that sounds interesting, but also might stretch my analogue brain a bit! I'll run that past the techies in the band 😀 I suppose I was naively thinking I'd download something, plug something in and get twiddling.
  8. Thanks Dad, that does look great but might be a bit much cost wise. There seems to be quite a few free software packages about, that obviously then need an interface (sometimes a specific one.) I suppose I'm trying to find a proven option from those.
  9. Hi all Thinking about swapping from a DMX foot controller for our lights to 'something' - maybe an app on a tablet or phone. I understand I'll need software and some kind of interface.I'm quite analogue, so anyone successfully using a simple (cheap is good too ) interface and software then I'd be interested. Ideally be nice to have it controlled from a tablet on my mic stand, but wired is fine. It's a pub band so not looking for massive lights shows, but equally I can't stand the school disco effect of just letting everything "Do it's own thing." Currently run 4 led pars, likely to add in two rotating head led lights. Cheers all Jason
  10. Ditch them and make up your own flag. Use the red white and blue thing, maybe drop in roses instead of stars on the Stars and Stripes? Sorry if the roses thing Yorkshire/ Lancashire isn't your patch, but you get my drift. Or you could go for Mexican flags and a big photo of Trump.... 😉
  11. Thanks Tom, really interesting and all you've written rings very true. Thanks for your interest and time.
  12. Hi TKenrick I think you are probably right there - the tricky thing is that you can get along reasonably well with rudimentary theory, and so for me (and I'm guessing others too) you can get out gigging and playing to a decent pub band standard without 'digging deep' into theory. Then all the other stuff that comes with being in a band takes over your time. In my case with theory (and other dry stuff, like spread sheets etc) I really only 'get it' with practical examples - but then I don't seem to retain it for long as, by and large, I don't 'need' it to function in my cover bands. If I was writing or depping (I'm not that good ) then I think theory would be a tool that'd get used more and so sharpened. I also remember physical patterns on the fret board much better than I could ever retain a written chord chart etc. I'd be interested in any ideas or pointers that would set me on the right path - any ideas where to find theory well taught or presented welcome.
  13. Broke out the five string and skived work for 10 mins - thanks again Dave, looking hopeful now! Really wish I had a brain wired for theory
  14. Thanks Dave - it certainly won't do any harm! Much appreciated, I'm a pub rock thumper at heart so easily confused
  15. Hi Dave - cheers, it is as below I think. Easy enough to play with a chart but in 'full gig' I can see me going a bit of track without some kind of plan. It says verse, but the first two have no vocals. [Verse 1] Em G C G / B C Eb G / Cm G Ab Eb / G Ab Eb G Cm Cm Cm Cm [Verse 2] Cm Eb Ab Eb / G Ab B Eb / G# Eb E B / Eb E B Eb G#m G#m G#m G#m [Verse 3] G# B E B / Eb E G B / E B C G / B C G B Em Em Em Em
  16. I'm in the same situation - new board gradually filling with more pedals and also wanted to mount my Smoothhound wireless on it too. The Smoothhound didn't like being on a daisy chain - so I've decided to go down the power brick route. Until now I'd been using a One Spot (which I think could be an ideal easy/cheap upgrade from your Boss PSU) - it's basically a more powerful 'normal' PSU. I've bought a Harley Benton Junior (which is cheap and has five isolated outputs) but think the 600ma rating isn't enough to cover my board as some of the pedals lights won't come on, or they seem to fade/glitch a bit (might sell this soon) and so have just bitten the bullet and ordered a One Spot CS7 - which seems very flexible and powerful. Someone is selling a Trex Chameleon on here that looks pretty good too.
  17. Hi all Any tips (in addition to lots of repetition ) for remembering long passages? I play in a covers band, we're going to do Muse Knights of Cydonia - great track and I can play it ok, but there are three 'verses' at the start all with different chords patterns (and they aren't what I'd call a pattern either!) I can tell immediately when I've gone wrong - but getting them all to stick in the aging grey matter is proving time consuming. I've got lots of other songs to learn, so can't commit hours to going over this one ad nauseam. Any tips to aid stick-ability appreciated! Cheers J
  18. Cool - we run a Soundcraft Ui16 mixer which is great for gates, filters and eq and the like - so that sounds doable.
  19. Cheers all -usefull stuff there. Do you isolate your subs , or maybe just not use them on boomy floors?
  20. Hi all After a truly horrible on stage sound at a recent party we played (huge barn of a village hall, massive ceiling height, hard walls everywhere!) we've been thinking about having a re-shuffle of pa and monitoring. All keen to get quieter backline and put more through the PA - maybe look at in ears (guitarists/drummer especially keen on these.) We'll dip our toe on iem with some cheapies first. Thinking about adding sub/subs to our pa for the first time - we run two RCF 325s at present, which are great and can handle a bit of guitar, kick and vox no problem. Plenty loud enough for what we do. However, we also run the backline fairly high (one 212, one 112 guitar rigs and my two berg 112s) - I don't go into the PA currently - obviously this might change and I'll need to run a feed for the iems. This band plays rock - so a solid low mid bottom end required, but not reggae/dub fat So, sub questions ? -Without getting into top end prices any views on decent boxes for the typical pub band/occasional hall type venues we do? Behringer b1220D caught my eye, or maybe second hand Yamaha DXS 12, Alto's any good? - Like the look and size of 12" subs - are they any good? Do you need two? - Is one 15" enough? - How can you tell if your chosen sub can support your tops? ( I haven't seen this rated and am conscious our RCFs are quite big.) - I use a Gramma Pad to isolate my cabs on wooden floors etc - is this something that is an issue (added cost) for subs too? Thanks all! Jason
  21. Joe recently bought my Tarkin - no problems and a silky smooth transaction!
  22. I bought Matt's Muff - sounds dodgy that, but the transaction wasn't! Top bloke, deal in confidence! Cheers Jason
  23. I've tried a lot too and never really gelled with any either, until I picked up an EHX Bass Soul Food - not fuzz at all, but great for a bit of grit and clank in a band setting. Seems to like both my passive and active basses too.
  24. As Lemmy (old school bass hero) once said " If your parents like it, it ain't any good." Think I may have seen him years ago with ST, he was so young and had all the chops. If you can follow Trujillo into that band, then you are definitely a bassist.
  25. I've got an MB500 Fusion - like it very much. It's flipping loud through my two Berg112s - the 800 must be a beast. The two channel thing on the 500 doesn't do much for me as it just gain and volume variation, shares the same EQ as the other channel. Would be handy to be able to re-eq it on the second channel.
