Bought a pedal from Lee - excellent comms (even whilst he was on holiday - that's dedication to the BC massive ) Speedy dispatch, all good.

£250-£300 seems to be average- cheapest I've done recently was £150 for a pub that was just starting having bands and didn't know if they'd cover costs. The £150 gig was a belter, we got a couple of drinks thrown in (all driving, but handy) - but we had a great time, I got propositioned mid song, we had people dancing like loons, one old boy who'd been sat by the bar watching intently suddenly leaped from his stool at the beginning of Crazy Train and shouted "Ozzy Ozbourne" with total glee! They even helped us load gear into the cars at the end. Proper fun night - half the wage but much better than a £300 gig with a bunch of disinterested table hoggers. Doesn't hurt to take chance every now and then.

Heavy covers - what do you think?

If it helps my Bergantino 112 covers are quite substantial- my two young daughters also enjoy putting them on , with heads through the handle hole, and pretending to be robots.... -

Thread has gone slightly off topic, but I'm all for Go with the Flow- I actually own one of said Dred Zeppelin albums. Was great fun and ideal for annoying hippies. The Shed 7 anecdote reminds of seeing Terrorvision cover SClub 7 and seeing a lively mosh instantly transform into loads of loons singing and doing the actions to Reach for the Stars. Happy days 😁 -

Cheers Graham - we'll never get rich doing this, so fun over funds is always our approach. Good to have your input. -
Hi all One of my bands has just become singerless - great girl, but baby number 2 has just tipped the balance to not being able to commit to regular rehearsal- so here we go on the hunt again. One idea ( as we all like the heavy stuff - if you don't- move on please😀) is we go heavier. We're a rock/hard rock band anyway. Just interested if anyone is successful playing heavier covers ( not talking classic rock stuff here or the token Enter Sandman) but some classic to more modern metal. Not a fan of screamo but don't mind a bit of growly vocals ( Amon Amarth I like for instance) Any how, what's your experience- are there gigs/ audience out there for this? Any good bands to cover/ tracks etc? Pub gigs - so heavy but fun and accessible I suppose. Two guitars, drums and bass and a singer tbc. Cheers Jason

When doing a version of something, I reckon it's best to learn the original first- then make your own natural changes to make it heavier/ rockier etc. It's a great song, so will go down well in most places. In one of my bands we did something a bit like this with Mama Mia - not quite so quick, girl singer - guaranteed dancers and smiles https://youtu.be/Ql89SQzpquU

Hmm - not sure that it's a covers bands duty to keep everyone dancing all night - depends on the crowd, genre and venues that you play. I love to get the crowd moving and some dancing/rocking out going on - but there's also a lot of people who enjoy stuff and just want to watch the band, shout occasionally and have a beer. I'd say it's a covers bands job to be engaging and entertaining. If you limit success to dancing only then you end up playing as set of the the same old 'Pavlov's Dogs' tracks all night. (Handy as one or two are .) Back on topic - with one of my bands we sit around the guitarists big telly, throw suggestions forward and Youtube them there and then. If it's a goer we know. No-one gets too hung up on their suggestions. As we tend to do regular silent practices round his house in front of said telly, it's a constant drip feed of ideas, usually stuff we've heard on the radio etc. (Radio X and Absolute are where I listen for new stuff.)

Or you could use an EQ pedal, which would give you the option to just boost the frequencies that you want for solos.
-
Thanks Cuzzie - I think I'm probably leaning towards a pedal type, with a bit of amp like eqing etc.
-
Hi all Thinking of going down the IEM route, and so maybe either going ampless or backing off the backline volume (now I've bought some subs for the pa, this seems achievable.) So, DI boxes - lots of good recommendations out there, but I like a fairly clean, growly middy basic sound - which I then want to run pedals into to overdrive, flange, synth up etc. So, a good DI with a paralell output - maybe with a bit of valve goodnes in there but not inherently mid scooped AND that takes pedals well. OK Basschat...ready ...set... GO!

Mine comes from my old motorbike, a Suzuki Bandit which I loved but sold (points and self preservation prevailed) but obviously I couldn't spend the proceeds on anything sensible - so that's when I bought my Sandberg, which also had to be red in memory of the 'donor.'

Well, second date with my other band tonight. My new squeeze made quite an impression, all the lads took an immediate shine to this little muff. I am smitten and have asked for her hand in marriage. Tell those other fuzzes, I am off the market.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - I sort of like them because I remember a few good tunes, on closer inspection though they don't seem to have much to them really. Flea is great, wish I could do that, but.. Not helped by the one time I saw them, they came across as a jam band with a disinterested singer (tbh the crowd were pretty disinterested after a while too.)
-
You know that feeling when you go on a first date and think you might, just might, have found 'The One' ..... Second date tomorrow night in more refined company- will see if romance blossoms.

It's tricky to get a good live sound without the rest of the band isn't it? I've been through lots of good drive pedals, which obviously work fine for many, but think I'm now happy with the simplest /cheapest one! EHX Bass Soul Food seems to work great for me and in a live setting. Maybe try EQing a bit differently, I've previously found a little boost around 800hz brings out the drive ( on my rig anyway.)

Forgive my ignorance, but do these interfaces work on tablets as well as pcs? -

Thanks that sounds interesting, but also might stretch my analogue brain a bit! I'll run that past the techies in the band 😀 I suppose I was naively thinking I'd download something, plug something in and get twiddling. -
DMX Lights - software/interface/app ideas
redbandit599 replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Dad, that does look great but might be a bit much cost wise. There seems to be quite a few free software packages about, that obviously then need an interface (sometimes a specific one.) I suppose I'm trying to find a proven option from those. -
Hi all Thinking about swapping from a DMX foot controller for our lights to 'something' - maybe an app on a tablet or phone. I understand I'll need software and some kind of interface.I'm quite analogue, so anyone successfully using a simple (cheap is good too ) interface and software then I'd be interested. Ideally be nice to have it controlled from a tablet on my mic stand, but wired is fine. It's a pub band so not looking for massive lights shows, but equally I can't stand the school disco effect of just letting everything "Do it's own thing." Currently run 4 led pars, likely to add in two rotating head led lights. Cheers all Jason

Opinions/advice on our bands confederate flags please
redbandit599 replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
Ditch them and make up your own flag. Use the red white and blue thing, maybe drop in roses instead of stars on the Stars and Stripes? Sorry if the roses thing Yorkshire/ Lancashire isn't your patch, but you get my drift. Or you could go for Mexican flags and a big photo of Trump.... 😉
