I have 3 :- Ashdown ABM600 iv, GK MB Fusion 500 and the TE Elf. I use either one or both of my Berg 1x12s (the ceramic ones.) I love the sound of the ABM and two cabs, but for smaller gigs I find that it chokes out a bit at low volumes. So, it only gets run out for bigger, noisy gigs now. We usually end up taking me out of the PA. I'm finding that the other amps work well with one cab and are plenty loud enough (I angle the one cab set up) so given we always run either our 'big' pa or 'small' pa and both have subs - it's mostly the smaller amps and 1 cab that gets loaded. Weirdly, when rehearsing (we are a bit loud) the smaller rigs seem to struggle a bit, which they don't do live - probably because we are all in small box, or because I'm standing closer - still fine of course.

In case anyone is interested this is how I've mounted it under my pedal board. A bit Heath Robinson but think it'll do the trick. The unit is just stuck in the pipe using a small stack of those self adhesive pads you use for craft stuff.

Hi all I've just got a secondhand Ipad to mount on my mic stand so I can mix my in ears - I'm sure others do similar things too. Anyhow, I thought it might be handy to be able to power it in case it runs out of battery over the course of a gig. This helpful Youtube video made up for my lack of electrical savvy and I've just tried it and it works! Just thought it might be handy to know. I'm using a 12v supply from my Truetone CS7 - don't forget to reverse the polarity!

Is 4 strings really enough? (Oooo i went there)
redbandit599 replied to BigJHW's topic in General Discussion
I play in a covers band and we cover stuff from modern to classic - a 5 is very handy and I use it all the way down to the low B. I've had/got a few 5s - the best B string was definitely my Dingwall (now sold) - the surprises though are a Warwick RB Corvette 32" and Ibanez Mezzo 32" which both have better Bs than several 34" basses I've had. -
Maybe have a look for a used Sire of some sort , might push the budget a little higher (but resale will hold up better) - I just got a new P5 5 string, it's my first Sire and the neck with the rounded edges is really lovely. I think they all have this feature and it makes a tangible and tactile difference to the 'comfort' of the neck, so might be an especially good call when learning.

DMX lighting control - laptop/tablet ideas

Thanks - I'll have a look at that! -
Hi all I like to have control of our lights and change scenes etc. regularly through a gig - I currently use a Eurolite Bigfoot DMX foot controller - it has enough channels to cope with our LED Pars and Moving Heads and is pretty easy to operate live. However, like all manual DMX controllers it is a PITA to program/adjust and set up or change scenes etc. Hours programming each step onto the light rig set up in my spare bedroom 😵 I'm drawn to the ADJ Mydmx Go - but that still seems beset with connection problems even years after launch. Just wondering what anybody else does that would enable easier programming (software based) and then enable different scenes/chases to be selected either via app or hardwired to a tablet or PC. There looks to be loads of options for software but obviously I need something pretty easy to trigger live and a lot of software looks more DJ/ light engineer focused. Lastly, yes I know I could just use the built in programs and leave them to it - but they (in my experience) never look much cop and, with a couple of mates bands I know that do this, the constant repetitive 'school disco' flashing is actually unpleasant to watch. Cheers!

I live in Brightlingsea - population evidently 8679. We've got Sam Ryder and When Rivers Meet. So that's a 1 in 2893 chance of being a 'known' musician. Take that city boys....🤣

Thanks, that's great insight.🙂

Yep, I get that. In my case we are gigging mostly now with subs, so backline doesn't have to be 'premium' - I have some awesome Bergantino cabs already, they tend to overpower the PA in smaller venues, so weirdly I'm thinking about something less capable.
-
Hi all Has anyone tried the Warwick Gnome cabs? Seem like they might be a less expensive alternative to the TE Elf cabs. Cheers 🙂

I think I mentioned it above, but I got dropouts in busy pubs. Happened with my Smoothhound too. Ok if stood within a couple of meters but much further sometimes became glitchy. Since being on 5.8 with the HB it's been fine and I can get about a bit. Shame because the other units were very nice and seem to work well for most, but very happy with the unit.

It's fine. We usually play two sets, anything up to about 2 1/2 hours in total. I tend to stick the transmitter on to the unit to top it up in the break, but I have forgotten before and it's been fine. The Shure has epic battery life, but just didn't work well for me.

I sold my GLXD and Smoothhound and went for one of these. It's been great.

Finding replacement female singers
redbandit599 replied to BassAdder60's topic in General Discussion
Hi, our singer and his daughter (sorry she's already got a band, duo and solo thing going) are from Ipswich way and Roma (daughter) went to Music College in Norwich. I can ask them if they know anyone suitable. Can you let me know your band name/Facebook link etc. presumably with live vids on there and I'll see if they might know anyone? Also where you rehearse. You never know 🙂 -

Nice! We use a tough one of these as a kind of barrier on the floor in front of the band in lively pubs, not perfect but it helps. Looks cool too.
