1. Got a river near you? If so just stick it's name in place of the X in "The X River Rapids" or Rusty Truck Rapids sounds cool to me.
2. Have fun! Another thing I've done is plug a mic in and let my kids record themselves and little loops on it. They love hearing themselves back and layering up daft sounds. I may drop 'Twinkle Twinkle' in at a gig one day
3. Just dug it out and checked (day off today!) On Q2 - two playing at once, I think I was mistaken. Seems to play out the first sample then immediately start the second one. Q3 - yes, you can get the next one ready.
4. From memory (though I haven't specifically tried) on questions 2 and 3. 2. Yes, pretty sure I have mistakenly done this at some point and had two playing. 3. Yes, You can switch location and get the next one ready while one is playing. 1. No idea, not used the software. I'd try and keep it simple with relevant samples next to each other as keeping a bassline tight whilst scrolling through and looking at your feet is tricky. I also leave a blank channel between patches as I figure if you happen to kick on too far, for instance, it's better to have nothing playing than the wrong sample.
5. I have a Behringer BOD100 Bass Overdrive sat on my desk - which gets rather gnarly, think it's a Boss ODB3 clone. Yours for the price of the postage mate it that's any use to you. It's got a blend and I seem to remember finding it pretty fuzzy. Haven't used it in ages but if you are interested I'll check it over.
6. Bargain! Sort of, in that £80 for a metal box that goes whee still seems a bit daft. Nonetheless, come to daddy! Thanks for heads up Rikki. J
7. Just to be clear I run a cable out from the headphone socket and into the AUX/tape inputs on the PA amp.
8. +1 for the JamMan Stereo, easy to use and I use it one for exactly the purpose you describe. In addition to bass I know play mournful church bells, police sirens and space ship launch sounds....
9. Thanks for the tips all. Think I've sorted the demo sharing via Soundcloud - seems to do the trick. Yep, posters next I imagine.
10. Hello from the Essex Sunshine Coast!
11. Hi all My local pub band is up and running and it's time to go gig hunting. It's been a while since I last had to send out demos and believe it or not, they were on tape! What do you guys find the most straightforward and succesful way to get a demo to a landlord/venue? There are so many options these days. Obviously I want it to be as easy as possible for the recipient. So far I've got the following on the list :- 1) Soundcloud - seems most likely, anything I should consider? 2) Youtube - bit more of a faff with having to do a 'video' of sorts. 3) Facebook - we've got a band site and already have a clip on here. Just wonder if it's a bit cumbersome. We don't have a website, maybe in the future, but not right now. Cheers Jason
12. Had a similar, though less extreme, situation with my drummer. He tried some of those rods that are alternatives to sticks, went through a few different types in the end because he actually liked the sound -which was also a bit quieter too. He's back on sticks now but somehow the experience of playing quieter has rubbed off and drum volume is no longer an issue. He also uses moon gel on his toms, primarily to get the sound the likes but it also kills some of the resonance, more thud than bang now. Might be worth a try.
13. Hi all I know Lee 'Leopard', the drummer, very well and used to gig with him back in the day. Great guy and tight drummer too! If you fit the bill, then go for it - you'll have fun with these guys for sure. Jason
14. C'mon everybody " I don't bother chasing mice around...."
15. Remember it's a team sport. If someone makes a mistake, then just give 'em a wink and crack on - cover for them if you can. Try and keep a bit of eye contact going between the band, it does wonders for keeping in time and also keeping everyone relaxed. Last one, if you are enjoying it, don't be afraid to show it - the punters like to know you are having a good time, it rubs off.(Loads of bands adopt the mean and moody approach, and consequenty loads of bands are just dull...)
16. Well Hyde Park went very well, we had our 20 mins of fame to about 250 people in total and it was a real buzz. Also got to play through a big ol' Ampeg rig. Trouser flappingly nice! Blooming Peppa Pig didn't show though! At least not to see us anyway, these divas. Did get to see Mr Tumble having his lunch, and nipping to the loo back stage so suitably star struck So, the single is out and you can download now, please! All the links are on the below, which makes us look all very corporate and professional - trust me, we ain't.... http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/customer/altogetherbetter/entertainment/british-summer-time/blog I've got some photos but don't seem to be able to load them up. Will try again later.
17. Tricky one, because you are asking who is the 'World's Greatest' but we are looking at it from a UK/European centric point of view and what we see as being big here. I travelled in South America a few years ago, rock t-shirts everywhere. Have a look at AC/DC playing some of their South American shows and just watch that crowd jump. I'm not saying Brian Johnson is the worlds greatest rock star btw, just that although some of the UK hipsters will have you believe that rock is past it, I think that there are large parts of the world that have more sense (and probably more fun.)
18. Good call that, though I hear she's a bit of a diva so may not be up for it. Will do my best!
19. Glastonbury - pah! Transaction X supporting Peppa Pig and Mr Tumble, this Sunday, in Hyde Friggin' Park - now that's rock 'n' roll...
20. Right, so either the puns have dried up or BC has suddenly turned tight - both of which I find hard to believe . This is the stage I'll have my 20 mins of pork based fame on come Sunday, somewhat shi**ing myself!!
21. War Pig - Toddlers gathered in their masses, with their nappies full of rashes... You've got me at it now. Right, here's the rules - Puns about Peppa Pig, Mr Tumble etc are very welcome. However, every pun will cost you a 99p download. We're on iTunes (as well as the Amazon link above), though I still can't work that. Search Transaction X and download Umbrella (or the double a-side, fancy eh!)
22. Ooh, that one's almost painful. You definitely have to download the track to make up for that...
23. Cheers guys! We do have this strange mental picture of getting a toddler mosh pit going, with Peppa Pig in the middle. Our band leader is desperate to shout "Right kids, get the pig!!!" We are on the second stage and only for about 20 mins, hopefully it'll be fun though.
24. Hi all I've previously posted that, being a jammy git, one my bands TRANSACTION X has blagged our way to releasing a charity single. Well we all are colleagues and work for Barclaycard and have subsequently won through an internal competition to play Hyde Park (British Summer Time) this Sunday. Previous days events have included Taylor Swift, The Strokes, The Who. However, we are on the hottest bill supporting Mr Tumble and Peppa Pig Our single is released on Sunday too, all profits from the sale will be doubled by Barclaycard and paid to Free The Children, who aim to free children from exploitation and poverty via education and sponsorship world wide. The single can be pre-ordered on Amazon on the link below, and is on iTunes too. If you can, please download, maybe like us on Facebook and share too? Thanks all for anything and all that you do! 25. Having just come back from Download where I saw Kiss, I think they'd be a great replacement for the Foos - on the condition that Kanye West has to share a tent with Gene Simmons. I imagine that'd be fun...
