1. I've also practiced quite a bit without a drummer, worked ok.
2. As it's for a few weeks why not ask a local drum teacher if they've got any student who could sit in for a few weeks for a bit of experience. Still invite your old drummer along so he can 'advise' and not feel threatened. Might keep you ticking and you could make a new mate. Alternatively your drummer will get a hissy fit and leave, which may be a little counterproductive.. You'll know which is most likely
3. Thanks all for the great suggestions, I have plumped for a Cog Grand Tarkin from our own Fenderhead. But there was a lot of competition and some really interesting stuff I'd never heard of before.
4. Yep, I loved that glitchy sound too from the Oxide too - playing about with the morph feature on the Oxide was hours of fun. Have to admit it's probably the only pedal I've sold that I really wasn't sure about passing on. Ultimately though I play in a hard rock covers band and a pop punk band and so it wasn't getting used 'properly' shall we say.
5. I think I'm leaning towards muff type, I had a good old EHX some time back, sounded great on it's own but lost in a band - hence the mids requirement. I did have an Oxide as well and agree they are awesome, sold it though and I'm probably after something a little less synthy and that carries the 'fuzz' a bit lower if that makes any sense. I can see a few more Youtube clips being viewed soon... Thanks all
6. Blimey, my ears are fuzzy. Some good ideas out there, thanks. Been doing the internet trawl and a couple of those mentioned above 'do it' for me. I did also stumble across DannyBuoy's review of the Behringer SF300, for £20 that caught my eye as a cheapy! Is it actually any good in a band?
7. Thanks all. Re the Woolly Mammoth clones, I think I've heard that the original Woolly Mammoth doesn't like active basses. Any view on that with the clones welcome! Cheers
8. Hi all Feeling the absence of fuzz currently, don't get to use one much and I'm not overly fussy. What I need:- Works well with active and passive basses Mids, want to hear it Ideally not too big Real world price I'll not have need for really aggressive tones, just classic fuzz. Any pointers? Cheers J
9. Ha! Good question, would certainly be better than looking at us old duffers. Stacey was the one doing the hi-tech filming on her phone. She's also averse to having her photo taken, which is daft, but there you go. Stacey is also the video 'editor' too (very smart young lady) so I suppose she would have put as much of herself in as she wanted. We've got a Facebook page too which I'll see if I can post a link too when I'm off the work PC. Cheers all!
10. Hi all I'm a jammy git. One of my bands, Transaction X, is formed with people from work, the description 'ragtag' is very accurate. We have people from the south coast to Leeds, so practice is rare and experience and talent 'varied.' Anyhow, our mad leader has a knack of pulling off daft stuff and so we find ourselves with a charity single coming out on the 28th June. It should be up on all major sites for pre-order from next week. Don't expect to have your musical horizons expanded, or to be dazzled by musicians at the peak of their craft, that's not the point! All proceeds are going to sponsor a girl through school in Kenya, which I think is a great cause. Here's the video, hope you like it, but hope you download the track and share it more! 11. I remember an engagement party from my youth, the 'future groom's' mates got the DJ to play 'Too Much Too Young' by The Specials. That did the trick...
12. Hi all I'm off to Download next week (great to see a couple of BCers bands on the bill btw.) Just wondered if anyone had any good tips for bands on the minor stages over the event? It's always fun tojust turn up and try watch someone on spec, but any 'ones to watch' also appreciated! Have fun all who are going - I'll be the one in the black t-shirt..... J

14. A +1 for 'Wake up Dead', lovely moshing groove on that one... On the ST front. First time I saw them was at 'Clash of The Titans' in Wembley (Slayer, Megadeth, Testament and ST) last time was at Colchester Arts Centre (basically a converted church.) I was having a pre-gig beer with a mate in Colchester High St, when 'Mad Mike' Muir wanders past with a Marks and Spencer carrier bag in each hand. It was possibly one of the most incongruous things I've ever seen. LA skater, hardcore, guru just nipping into M&S for some sarnies and pants...
15. Hi all Having a re-jig, and maybe on the look out for a simple, preferably small fuzz. For various reasons I prefer to run effects in my amps loop. I know fuzzes can be fussy about input, anyone have success with any particular model used in this way? Cheers J
16. Biggest I've ever played to is only about 250, but much prefer it when there are lots of people in. Probably because the punters are a bit less inhibited in a big crowd, if one cheers/dances/leap about then a good few will join in and so it builds. Smallest 3, although we did stop mid -song and applaud the audience when for brief period there was more of them than us...
17. We recently got a new singer she is classically trained but loves her hard rock stuff, so we've got an operatic warbler doing Metallica, sounds good to us! But, wow, what a revelation it is to play with a singer who really knows what she's doing. She's always picking out bits, and analysing as she sings. She can also converse in terms of timing and phrasing and asks us what key stuff is in etc. Never had any of that before. To the OP, I'd get down your local operatic society and see if there's anyone down there who fancies a go at what you do. I'm wondering if there is a difference here between blokes and girls too, do more girls learn the trade and blokes rely on being a 'natural?'
18. Hi all I've got a Sandberg California 5 string, it's great . I am thinking about trying some different pups though, to hopefully get a bit more traditional growl going on. It has Delano's on at the moment, which are a bit weak compared to my (passive!) Yamaha's and have a little less 'going on' for want of a better term. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds damn good, but you know how it is! The bass is a J/MM configuration, but the MM has a neat little switch so I can run it J/J by converting the MM to a single. This works really well and is something I'd like to keep as I use it a lot. I think that Sandberg fit Harry Haussel pick ups as an option (I've mailed them already, just waiting for a response.) but wondered if anyone had any ideas about alternatives that meet the above criteria? Thanks all Jason
19. Good man! I'd forgotten about this, will be interested to hear what you think.
20. [sup]I have a poor track record on names [/sup] [sup]1st time played in front of people - Turbo Condom and the Fish Fingers [/sup] [sup]Long time gigging band - Dumper[/sup] [sup]Brief spell as - Red Raw and Sore [/sup] [sup]Thankfully, now in NightOwl and Declined Transaction which are much less whince inducing...[/sup]
21. Hi Ho Silver Lining - thanks, I thought I'd finally forgotten that.. Any of the turgid R'N'B crooners that I used to have to endure at the end of 'discos' in the 80's, you know, the ones that prompted the 'pavlovian snogging response.' More recently anything by Blur...
