1. I use one of these hooked into the pa as a simple (has to be...) way of triggering little samples and sound effects. For instance, I play the 'bell' in the intro to For Whom The Bell Tolls with it and have some suitably cheesy space ship launch sounds for the start of 'Final Countdown.' Bit of Police siren etc. I'm sure soemone with taste could come up with something better though. Have a bump for a handy bit of kit.
2. I had some dealings with a guy called Ralf on "][email protected] and "][email protected] He was helpful enough.
3. I've got a mate who works for one of those 'hush hush mad scientist' type places, evidently he can build a device that creates a limited range EMP with nothing more than a microwave oven (though evidently the microwave isn't much use afterwards...) I think there could be a market for the 'personal EMP device' just imagine frying all the smartphones in a 50m radius, would improve the live experience for all no doubt.
4. Hi all If anyone has got some of the LEDJ 7Q5s (or similar) that started this thread, then I've just posted an ad for a Stompar foot controller that works with these. Unused, £30 posted as opposed to £ 65 retail. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/260924-ledj-stompar-foot-controller-for-ledj-led-lights-l30-posted/
5. Hi all I have a box-fresh and unused LEDJ Stompar foot controller for sale. It's designed to work with the LEDJ slimline lights for example the 7Q5/5Q5 - does blackout and sound to light etc. I think t's meant for RGBA but works with my RGBW's too. I can upload pics if needed but it's the same as this:- http://www.prolight....m.php?id=509207 I've just decided to take the plunge and go for DMX. Wish me luck.... Jason
6. Interesting test, evidently I'm lucky - a youthful of metal and rock bands every weekend playing and watching and I still come out normal. Mind you our drummer can't hear in his left ear (which spent long periods next to my old Ampeg...)
7. I personally don't care who's name is scrawled on stuff, just interested if it sounds any good. Cheap, bad products with a dead persons name on? Never stopped Fender .
8. Oxide sold - just the Digitech left. Now Sold.
9. Sorry just twigged the UK bit - strike Mastodon and Amon Amarth, but Savage Mesiah still fit!
10. There's lots of new bands, and almost as many sub-genres these days. Maybe some idea of what sort of stuff you like? For instance some people would call Motley Crue metal (I call them sh*te btw) . Saw Savage Messiah supporting Amon Amarth recently, damn fine gig. Might be worth trawling through the lower stage line ups for Download etc. I think that Youtube is a good resource too as I've often found myself going off on a trail of videos that I didn't know. Last tip, not new, but if you haven't heard much Mastodon, then that's worth a shout Crack the Skye is epic.
11. Cheers Spacey, I'll try that setting out. Do you have your cans on the floor or mounted higher somehow?
12. I eventually picked up a pair of those Ledj 7Q5's, seem pretty good to me. Quick questions for those that know before I expand the lighting stable further. Can you slave pretty much any manufacturers kit together (using DMX leads) and if so would they all follow the same pattern as the 'master'? As I imagine different manufaturers will have different programs etc. What happens if you try and run RGB units as slaves from an RGBW? (Or vice versa.) Cheers J
13. I can see a niche or bespoke market for particular bands. Why not do soemthing a bit more interesting with the lights though? Maybe use some LEDs with DMX linking the cabs. Guitar and bass cabs strobing away in sync would look really different.
14. Awesome! Hope you have a great time. I'm going for the weekend, will try and come along.
15. Very loud and bad cover of No Limits by Two Unlimited, with some pre Death Metal vocals. Did it for a laugh, went down well and proved that many punters have no taste - then to our surprise on of the local 'A' list bands saw it and started trying to do it. Trouble is they key could play too well, so it lost the 'punky' charm of the original...
16. Cheers Phil, some good pointers in there.
17. Our old drummer was once approached by a middle aged lady in the break who proudly said:- "I have the nipples of a 14 year old!" She then proceeded to show him. What was really funny was just how shocked the drummer was afterwards, especially considering he was a tattooist and piercer and had pretty much 'seen it all.'
18. Yep, I think our PA is a 'back in the day' one That said we, do run a 4x12 for each of the guitars and my EBS with 2x10 and 2x12 so shift plenty of air for most pubs via the backline.PA is just for vocals really, and hopefully some kick. Ideally we'd start from scratch again, but as we are just getting back out and about we'll try and make what we have work for a while before substantial investment! Old watts are definitely louder, my old Ampeg 4x10 Combo is 'only' 140w (solid state), still shook plenty of windows! Though I do understand the point of headroom etc. etc.
19. Thanks chaps. The mixer amp isn't quite as powerful as I first thought. It's a Peavey XRD680s, so 150w x 2. Definitely will try the eq'ing first with existing set up. Turns out that one of the guitarists (and failed studio guru) has an AKG Kick Drum mic that we've never used (having just chucked any old thing in before.) That may help us too I'm sure. Thanks for the 'little mixer' idea should a sub ultimately be required, makes sense.
20. Cheers. Will have a tinker at next rehearsal with that (we don't usually mic the kick for rehearsal so don't think we've done that recently) - it's a pretty basic EQ but worth a look, you are right there.
21. Hi all Just after a bit of steer. Hoping to be back gigging in earnest in the Spring and with our new singer the band is sounding great (well, by our standards anyway ) We are a 5 piece hard rock/classic metal band. Anyhow, we've always had a very simple approach to PA. We have a powered Peavey mixer (250w per side I think) and two Peavey 15" top cabs - we usually just run vocals in here and rely on backline for everything else. Sometimes put the kick in but this seems to be all 'crack' and not much thud. We run two monitors (soon to be three) two powered and one slave - the mixer amp just has one output for these so it's the same mix in all. We use a TC Helicon Voicelive to add some nice delays etc for the singer. That's it. Anyhow, don't really want to have to swap out what we have but am interested in any ideas as to how we could maybe add in a sub (preferably just one) to give a bit of re-inforcement for the kick and clean it out of the way of the vocals. Just can't quite work out in my head what we'd need- I think a hybrid passive PA and powered sub set up would be the most likely end result, just not quite sure how I'd link it all up! Any help or direction to good resource appreciated. Cheers J
