1. Wunjo's in Denmark St is good for trying out stuff too. Small but lots of gear and friendly.
2. Make sure you try a couple of Yamaha's, ime tend to punch above their weight at that price point. Like this one :- http://www.thomann.de/gb/yamaha_trbx_305_bl.htm Sounds wise you are talking about aggressive mid-scoops, with bass and treble boosted. An active bass would probably get you closer to this (especially if it has a three band eq), but a lot of it will be in the eq-ing of your amp/pre-amp. To get the Korn sound you will need cabs with tweeters. Have fun.
3. Hmm, looking for last minute Christmas presents. Is this still available?
4. Thanks, I'll give them a look!
5. Congrats onthe new Sandberg. Love my California JM5. Sounds like you've tried a fair few strings too.Any that you've tried standout on the Sandbergs for a good punchy, rock tone in particular? I've got D'Addario Nickel Wounds on at the mo, but always interested in opinions. Cheers J
6. Ian bought a pedal from me, great comms and fast payment. No bother! Cheers J
7. Just sold a pedal to Mace. Good comms and swift payment. All good! J
8. Yes, we don't expect it to be easy at all. However, we do have a slight advantage in that we will be trying to market internally at work as well... Feb is evidently a quiet month music sales wise, so that suits us too. Don't try, don't know... 9. Hi all I play in two bands, one is an eight piece, pop-punk, covers band put together with a few colleagues from work (of very varying capability and experience) it's not going to advance music one iota but it's a lot of fun. We all work for Barclaycard, and the band is called Declined Transaction (though, we were briefly banned from using that by an exec with no sense of irony...) We're led by one of the sales directors and he has taken us on a pretty crazy ride, so far we've played our Xmas do, a theatre and Hyde Park (on a Tuesday night with about 70 people along...) Most recent scheme is a charity single, we've got it recorded properly and we can get it loaded onto i-tunes, Youtube etc. We have some connections that can sort all the legal, label stuff out etc and make sure that whatever we raise goes to to the charity (Free the Children, most likely) Even probably getting some vinyl! Suffice to say, we are all somewhat excited! Any how, just thought I'd see if anyone has any bright ideas that might help us push a few downloads and raise a bit of cash. I will of course be calling on the Basschat massive to help us crash the Top 40! (39 would do fine ) Any ideas for getting 'airplay?' That'd be so cool! It's likely to be a double B-Side of covers of Umbrella by Rhianna and The Climb, Miley Cyrus both given a bit of a workover and made worse than the originals... Probably release it in February. Cheers all, of course I'll still pop into Basschat when I'm famous. Jason
10. Unless I'm mistaken (highly possible) doesn't that TB thread stop in 2012? Which I suspect means it ain't happenning?
11. Hi all Need to sell these quick before I change my mind! [s]Darkglass B3K and Vintage Microtubes, both in great condition and boxed. Really lovely pedals, I think I've just come to the realsiation that I do only really need one overdrive/distortion, so these two beauts are off to pastures new and noisy. £145 £135 posted in the UK.[/s] [s]Iron Ether Oxide, love this pedal. Big chunky, nasty, synthy gated fuzz. The 'strangle' feature is excellent as it really retains bottom end. Two different voices too, one slightly mid scooped, the other with a mid boost. Will really miss this, but I just don't think I'll get to use it in anger in either of my bands. These all look a bit intentionally gnarly and this one has some staining from the original manufacture process on the top, doesn't detract and all works fine. £110 posted in the UK. SOLD[/s] [s]Digitech Digidelay, cheap, fun but well built digital delay - just don't use it. £33 posted.[/s] Not really after trades, but you never know (no overdrive/distortion please, I have been through enough...) Only things I'm currently thinking about on occassions are decent LED band lights, Korg Kaossilators (not Mk1) But these are vague thoughts.... Thanks for looking. 12. http://www.musik-produktiv.co.uk/cameo-studio-par-64-18x8w-quad-colour.html?gclid=CNyEvLSDlsICFfHKtAodA2gAyA I've started looking around now, lights gas (gaslight?) is spreading... Came across these, look like serious beasts with 18x8w each. Wondering if I could have fewer, more powerful lights now... Suppose spread maybe the issue, also how bright is too bright!?
13. Probably right about hot rods gently played being louder than sticks. My drumming mate is a bit of a rock beast though, and 'gentle' was tricky.... The rods sounds good, but drop the overall level compared to 'not gentle' sticks Were a bit of a revelation and because we could all drop volume, my drummer became used to the lower volume. He can now miraculously play quieter with sticks too, just made him think about it really. Much easier to get a decent mix at lower volumes.
14. Why not do an 'extra' practice without the lead guitarist along, Mr Rhythm will have to step up and maybe the experience of hearing himself will be kill or cure. Re drummers and volume, our drummer recently took to practicing with those rods - singer was pregnant didn't want to deafen the nipper! The nylon rods last longer and they definitely take the level down, nice fat sound too so they are now a permanent fixture for certain songs. Yes, he should be able to control volume better with sticks, but the rods got him on the right track.
15. Thanks guys for the 'lights on speakers' input. I wondered if there was some sort of clamp that could maybe fix onto the speaker pole so the lights could point back tpwards the band. However, I get that they would probably be too low now. Velcro idea has got me thinking cheers.
16. Thinking about getting some new lights. Like the look of these LED jobs, do any of you mount them on your PA stands in any way? Would be good to not have to have other t-bars etc? J
17. I use an EHX LPB1 in the effects loop, works ok for me. Simple as they come, and easy to tweak. Used a Boss to EQ to do it too, but did find it quite sensitive in setting the level, and meant that I couldn't use the EQ without the boost without a fiddle.
18. I'd give it a bash too, sounds a lot better than an over serious, money-centric band. Which for a hobbyist like me would be purgatory. A few select gigs playing in places that like 80's metal with mates, rather than giging every weekend would suit me fine. Maybe they haven't gigged, maybe they've had rubbish bass players before and that's why? After all, it's just a 'dating' ad. You ring 'em up or meet and that's when you can really tell.
19. Is this still available? Have a guitarist mate looking for a 4x12. Would you split?
20. Turned round to speak to drummer mid-song. Noticed his knackers hanging out from the leg of his shorts. Sorry, can't write anymore the memory is still too raw
21. No idea about the Stones, but I used to know and chat to a guitarist that was approached by Ozzy and offered the gig after the death of Randy Rhodes.
22.
Excellent post. Couldn't have put it better myself. I'm sure that the kids of today have the same fun as we all did and that's great but i do think that listening to music is not as important for them. I'm sure it's enjoyable but it's just one of the many things that they enjoy. In the 50s, 60s and 70s all groups like Teds, Mods, Skinheads, Hippies all had their own music which was very integral to being in one of those groups. Nowadays there aren't those types of groups so music is less important to them even though i'm sure that they still enjoy it.
Now somehow this has gone arse about face - this should be above. Computers, send me a teenager now
23. Cheers I think you're right. Maybe music as a 'focus' will be something that comes a bit later in life than it did with previous generations? Once all the many varied options of today have been filtered through their young years, there'll maybe be some who gravitate towards music as an interest/passion. Just a bit 'late.' Similar thing happenned with me and my mates, we'd always loved our muCsic but had been going through the usual youth treadmill of standing about in clubs and pubs failing miserably to pull girls, Cheerswhen we literally stumbled on the local pub rock scene. That was it then, our ticket out of club boredom, and into a circle of like minded soon to be friends, which led in turn to thinking 'I can do that...' and picking up the bass.
