Is a gear4music upright any good???
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to ChrisF's topic in EUB and Double Bass
oh...and am I right in thinking that they can be played through a bass guitar amp ???
Only if you buy a double-bass mic & pre-amp/DI box (I believe) to connect to your amp. There are people far more experienced to help you with mic choices, but I believe some have fishman & piezo mics for their double ass. But by all means reearch is needed in this area to match your budget and preferences. Otherwise if its an electric upright, then its just like normal plug'n'play. -
just remove the fullstop at the end.

Thomann - How long to sort a problem?
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to silentbob's topic in General Discussion
No complaints here. Ordered a selection of studio equipment on monday and with standard shipping came today. It was well packed in a very large box disproportionate to its contents and arrived inbetween the stated 3 - 10 days so I'm happy. -

Well, I've been looking into just getting a mixer & a few mics for home recording purposes. I firstly though 2 SM57's. Then I was thinking of getting a stereo pair such as http://www.thomann.d..._stereo_set.htm and I've used C1000s before to good effect http://www.thomann.d...s_mk_ii_set.htm and ofcourse something like this with shockmount for vocals http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tbone_sc600_retour_studiomikrofon.htm I'm not entirely sure what mics to get for a starter. Things like guitar/piano/bass/vocals/cajon. I've heard some good things of Behringer & experienced AKG/Shure. Can any who are more experienced than I offer any advice? Cheers.

Yes there is always one. Bloody nerve, saying something like that when they know there's live and loud music!

unless the TC amp states that it is '2 ohms minimum' then probably not a good idea. =) I guess yours says its '4 ohmns minimum' by the speaker out. I also assume that both your aguilar 12's are 8 ohms each. That means you can't connect more than 2 cabs.

My old school had and still has an old behringer 120 watt kick-back combo. one with an aluminium cone. Not an exceptional sound, but an acceptable one. Its been there atleast 10 years with constant abuse from children who can't actually play and turn it up to 11. Which is quite surprising if you think about it.... No problems with it when I was playing bass for a few school bands.
Ive got one, its not brilliant but I plug the bass in and take a line in from the laptop and I can jam along with whatever i,m working on. It does what I want it do do, but as i said, its not brilliant, and also quiet pricey too!
I think thats what 'effed mine up. Whenever I try and use it now, there is no signal from the bass (passive pbass) and it starts, sort of 'clicking' audio. Guessing somethings gone horribly wrong inside!
i play through a pair of Sennheiser HD-215 headphones.
Same headphones here, and when mine did work, I couldn't really get any decent volume with it. If I turned up either master vol or gain, its started sounding very scratchy.

Absolutely agree. I wish I had it's reciept. Its piss-poor and very plastic-y.

Perhaps its just an electric upright?

Its a trap.

New Dirty Loops Cover - Rollin' In The Deep
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to AndyBob09's topic in General Discussion
The cliche of 'less is more' comes to mind. I perfer the original (unfortunately) to this one. They've efffed the song up to the point where the only recognisable bit are the lyrics (just). I also think its way too busy. -
I wonder whether using the DI out into a powered moniter? Then again I am also not an expert and haven't tried this.

Regarding the lone head, I emailed G4M asking if the stats of '500w @8 ohms' was correct, and they mailed me back that it was. Am I alone in thinking that something is amiss?

So, an actual pair of real living musical geniuses?
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to Truckstop's topic in General Discussion
I just wish I had half the equipment they do. xD eh thats not a very good version of moves like jagger (imho ofcourse) RE: OP - I didn't care much for the originals, and these covers are still of the same similar noise. -
Sorry but am I mad for thinking that these are a tad bit overpriced? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steinberger-XL-2-BASS-Nov-1984-Newburgh-EARL-FALCONER-UB40-pre-owned-mint-/130670921709?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1e6c9807ed http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHRIS-ECCLESHALL-CUSTOM-BASS-GUITAR-FISHMAN-REDUCED-BARGAIN-/130670921638?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1e6c9807a6

Band advice wanted - Songwriting credit issues
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to Ruiner's topic in General Discussion
I very much agree with you - It would only be 'his' song if he had orchestrated every part to such an extent, where if you change anything it doesn't fit the song. If its only a riff, then it is most certainly a bands song. But then again it depends what is coming of the band and what styles the bands are aiming for, and how they use this riff. I suppose it can be quite difficult sometimes. -
This redsub combo is looking ever more appealing!

Had a brilliant gig last week. Small jazz quintet with trumpet, trombone, alto sax/flute, guitar & DB with Dave Markee! A true muscian. First time I've heard DB played properly! I enjoyed it. Small venue, but 200+ people in Ashtead PMH. Great fun.

Opinions on a Peavy bass stack on Ebay
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to pburrows's topic in Amps and Cabs
Oh definately. The amp will put out 350w @ 4ohms, and 600w @ 2ohms. I[s]f those cabs are 4 ohms each, you'll get the full whopping 600 watts.[/s] The seller says they are both 4 ohm cabs so you will get the full power. It should be certainly loud enough for most (if not all) situations with out PA support. And peavey is reknowned for their indestructible products. Here is the manual for the Mark viii head http://www.peavey.co.../BassMKVIII.pdf But its eBay, so be it on your own head! Seller states the reserve price is £350. Which I'd say is quite reasonable. -

Low cost instruments that sound great
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to Mog's topic in General Discussion
Even the best guitars and basses cost peanuts when compared to the best orchestral instruments (for example). It's all relative, YMMV, IMHO and so on and so forth.
Thats why I'm glad I'm not a string player! wait...
