Depressing things your bandmates say.
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to arthurhenry's topic in General Discussion
in a previous band and after a few comments on speed variation and fills that spill .... 'Look guys ,it is NOT the drummers responsibility to keep time ' The guy is a great dude but
Ah I suppose thats partially true. I mean in traditional swing/jazz, its really the bass player that should be keeping time with the walking bassline and the drums mking the piece more interesting - not that professionals should need any help to keep time -
Is that a Classic Vibe model? Whatever it is, it's piggin' gorgeous!
That it is, and I absolutely love the look with the black pickguard. The stock red tortoise-shell type thing was a little bit too much for me.

I hope Squier isn't considered blasphemous!

Is it acceptable for Pro musicians to drink.
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to TimR's topic in General Discussion
I suppose if you're a band doing pub/club gigs, then a bit before hand and then afterwards is acceptable, but if you are a 'professional' musician then absolutely not. -
Want A 5 String Bass But Which?
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to Gordon Thudmaster May's topic in General Discussion
have you tried any ibanez basses? They generally have quite slim necks. http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Ibanez-GSR205-Soundgear-5-String-Bass-Guitar-Black/667 http://www.dv247.com/guitars/ibanez-sr505-5-string-bass-guitar-brown-mahogany--50256 These have 16.5 mm spacing, but I can't vouch for the accuracy as I don't own one. -
Recently they've been selling cheap on ebay..............around £250/260 on ebay for secondhand ABM 500.
I must admit I haven't been looking very diligently on eBay. I've only come across the discontinued ABM 300 so far! But thanks I'll definately keep a keener eye on eBay.
That's the perfect excuse!
I suppose it is! Ah, I guess I'm just a tight bastard then

I'd love an excuse to get one. played through an ABM 500 a few times and sounded fantastic!

Ah well seperate CD player is a must then. http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/44505-peavey-audio-performer-pack-complete-portable-pa-system-200w.html and http://www.richersounds.com/product/cd-players-recorders-dacs-cassette-decks/teac/cdp1260/teac-cdp1260 just as an example?

Do all the teachers have laptops, and do they have CD drives? Just get an adapter cable (3.5mm jack to Twin RCA/Twin 6.3mm jack) to plug into the headphoine socket, then into the mixer and there is your CD player? ((This is how we did it at my old school/college)-but we also had an installation and portable pa) If not a rack-mount one might be prefereable? like http://www.dv247.com...d-player--69710 and a rack case like http://www.dv247.com...ght-case--73749 don't know how prone to being stolen that is though! (these are just suggestions!) Or this http://www.andertons...-this-price.asp 150-watt compact system with built in cd player I have no expereince with these systems, (except the Nu-Man, when I worked at a theatre, which worked fine) Also rre to have a 'built'-in CD player in a mixer such as the fender portable thing.
I've 'done' Grease twice now and it's great fun. On the other hand, I've just done The Sound Of Music and I think the bass part must've been written for the Tuba .
On a side note, wasn't for the leatherhead theatre was it, by chance? On Topic, I've played a few musicals with school bands and at the local theatre, and I've always enjoyed myself. Anywhere from Rocky Horror Show to Rent to Carousel.

Amps for Rehearsal Studio - Urgent help needed...
Alec 'Aleb' Mills replied to eude's topic in Amps and Cabs
You probably won't find much in the way of tilt-back designs, but things like this http://www.expressmusicstore.co.uk/products.asp?code=80200&name=laney-rb8-300w-bass-combo or this http://www.expressmusicstore.co.uk/products.asp?code=82709&name=ashdown-300w-1x15-mag-combo-bass-amp things like that. also just buy some 2nd hand cabs and you have full rigs you can hire out too? -
Parts of the Trombone Solo from Gustav Mahler's 3rd Symphony 1st Mvnt. Last 15 seconds of 'Defying Gravity' from the musical Wicked Parts of Dvorak's 2nd mvnt of the Dumky Trio. Maynard Ferguson's Solo at the beginning of Gospel John To name but a few of my 'hair-on-end' moments.
