1. Superb bass this. I've got exactly the same one although mine is a bit scruffier than this lovely example. My bass is from the same time as well so has the non adjustable Tone Pump. See this thread here as there is some discussion over whether or not the Tone Pump is boost only. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/93320-spector-tonepump-is-not-boost-only/page__hl__spector%20boost I love the Tone Pump, loads of tones from throbbing dub bass to glassy highs and everything in between. Good Luck with the sale.
2. Bloomin' 'eck - a better guitar for £100 you cannot buy - someone got a bargain there....
3. Based in the North West, I would love to visit a Warwick stocking that has the 'full suite' of Warwicks. I believe they are difficult to deal with from a stockist/distributor point of view as they try to force onto the store the full range of stock and amps which I suspect would give most stores an issue in the amount of money they would have to spend to put some stock on site.
4. Agreed with the above, one of those songs you can play as simply or more difficult if you want. In fact if you get the groove down you could probably get away with playing almost anything over it. I'm sure I've got an old magazine transcription with the dots somewhere if that helps you at all?
5. Hello There 'The Hat' Hope you are getting on with the Bass Collection alright. The Bass Collection, even more so with the upgraded electrics, will actually give you a good Precision sound (P Bass) by using only the neck pickup and also a good Jazz sound by using only the bridge pickup. At the moment I happen to have both a Precision and a Jazz bass and am more than happy for you to come over and have a look and a listen and a chat about all things bass. You know where I am if that sounds of interest.
6. Agree with some of the opinions on this. I tried one of these in Dawson's - they were telling me about it having a USA pickup - which I didn't think sounded up to much compared to the other P's they had in. Makes sense now reading the above. Seems like a bit of a 'Frankenstein' / random Fender parts bass.
7. Stunning bass niceguyhomer. I'd probably keep hold of the Clover for a bit longer to get decided on which way you want to go - it would be easier to find the jazz you are after than to find another Clover like this I expect.
8. Bargain - what a price! If I wasn't going to London this weekend I would be darkening your door with my presence to play this again giving it some serious thought of getting into trouble with Mrs Bagsieblue (again) Have a bump - somebody should snap this up.
9. Thanks Mornats - iRealb looks great. (I see you've still for the 5 string BC by the way that we spoke about some time ago....great basses and I'd still want to get hold of a 5'er of them sometime soon).
10.
I'll have a look at that, what a good idea that is!!
Agreed, does sound good and the type of thing I'd like - thanks for that fella...
11. I've recently picked up a Google Nexus 7. Can anybody recommend any good apps for bass related activites?
12. Agreed, agreed, agreed. Great band, proper bassist. Tons and tons of great songs. Burden In My Hand is one of my favourite songs of all time.
13. Hmmm - looks familiar. Half tempted to have this back myself for nostalgic reasons. It is a great player, a players guitar is exactly right.
14. Yes - still got it. Board is in very good condition. Yes - I've only used flats on it. Yes - German made 1992.
15. Thanks for the input everyone. A lot of sense written in the thread, and the "Why do we gig" thread as well. I probably am too demanding or specific in what I'd be looking for, especially having been out of the gigging game for a good while. Time for another long look in the mirror.......not a pleasant sight though.
16. Richard kindly sent me, free of charge, a High C string. Just what I needed, much appreciated and saved me buying a new set as I try my hand at a 5'er with a High C. Thanks again...
17. ........for those of us on the other side of the gigging fence. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202818-why-do-we-not-gig/
18. Reading this got me thinking: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202671-why-do-we-gig/ Started playing bass at 14 (I'm 35 now), played in (original) bands from age 16-22. Some good bands in the early and middle days, in my later gigging days too many abandoned projects, timewasters etc. As I'm sure a lot on here will have experienced - Some of the best times of my life have been related to being in and around playing in bands and some of the worst times of my life have been related to being playing in bands. I barely touched a bass from ages 23-33 but in the last couple of years have started to practice as much as is practical with a full time job and a young family. Sometimes I think I really want to get back into a band, sometimes I don't know if I do!! I do like practicing, learning and challenging myself at home. I've had a look at a few bands and they've had a look at me but nothing has sparked my interest. To spark my interest the band would ideally need to be playing originals, all musicians be of a good standard and trying to do something a little different than the usual middle of the road material. I suppose I'd rather be in no band than in a not very good band playing to small, unappreciative audiences, landlords/promoters trying to play games. I wouldn't say I wanted to get back into it for the money but being a little older and wiser I would not accept being taken advantage of and being consistently out of pocket for late nights lumping gear about to backstreet empty pubs. So maybe I'm just not good enough to be in the standard of band that (I think) I want to be in? Any input welcome.... Anybody else in the same situation?.
19. I played this very bass last week while drooling over EAD's fretless ACG - this ss a great bass and a great price. Great guy to deal with as well. For anyone thinking about this you could do a lot worse for the money.......
20. I absolutely love my Spector 5LX - dating from 2007 at this time the Spector TonePump active tone controls did not have the internal output trim pot, that was added later in 2008. I love the edgy, aggressive, red hot sound. Still capable of a wide range of tones in between. Super comfortable 5'er neck as well - and absolutely beautiful.
21. Thanks Bilbo.... Joebass - can you point me in the direction of the new real books please?
22. I'm toying with the idea of going to see the Yellowjackets in Manchester next month as part of my jazz beginnings introduction/education. Mr Felix Pastorius on bass as Jimmy Haslip takes a break. I know precious little of them and their music, does anybody have any transcriptions, dots or charts for me to work through to get more familiar with the music?
23.
Good player...must have taken most of the day to put this together.
yeah - it started to get a bit dark at 3:50 . Good Vid - I agree with most of the comments. Surprising how similar in sound they were really. My favourite was the JB and the Stingray. P bass was not thumpy enough - although I think the style contributed to that. So.....it is all in the fingers then eh?
24. Patrick very kindly sent me some sheet music books, free of charge no less! The kind of gesture that makes Basschat such a great place. A pleasure to deal with. Would highly recommend. Thanks again Patrick.
