1. Bought a book from Josh. Great price, great communications and great service. Would happily deal with again. Thanks again......
2. Have you seen the PM I sent you Daz?
3. There is quite a bit of info around on these basses, a lot of which is conflicting. There are people who are more well informed than me but I have to disagree that the 300 series have gold (or brass) harware. I recently sold a (passive) SB301 which was very similar to this, also in the trans red finish. Differences between this are the fretboard, the bridge on mine was less substantial and not Gotoh stamped (although the tuners were), my nut was plastic where as this one is brass I reckon this is an active SB310. Either way still a fantastic bass.
4.
Future collectible??? A lot of bass for not a lot of money..
quite possibly - as I nominated in the "What are going to be future collectables?" thread. Damn good basses these. are too. Can anybody confirm if this is from the (SB) 400 series?
5. I avoided Level 42 like the plague for too many years. Have got into them recently, especially the earlier stuff. Actually, just remembered that is was getting the 'heads up' on here about him being on The One Show. Surprised myself that I liked what I saw on there. Subsequently booked to See them at Manchester Apollo towards the end of last year, superb stuff, seems like a top fella to boot.
6.
I love the breakdown in that song when it drops to bass and drums. Also the lyrics are quality.
Yep - sure I've read somewhere that GnR have never played it live either!
7. I had a Westfield 5 string, PJ Pickups, may as well not had the low B for all the use it was. Horrible, horrible bass, the difference when I traded up to a MIM Fender Jazz was an absolute revelation.
8.
That's a bit harsh - he could work out more and cut down on the Dim Sum a bit, but he's not literally a Giant Of The Bass :-)
Oopps - of course, that was meant to be a very wise man......
9. Don't Damn Me - Guns 'n Roses, something about that song that does things to me. Never found anyone else capable of pulling off the main riff though.....
10.
No way! And no false modesty either ... there are plenty of people here on Basschat who know way more than me, I'm just the guy who started this thread.
Fair enough Happy Jack - let's agree that you are a very wide man indeed then....
11.
Not convinced by this one. It has been messed about a fair bit (pickups & wiring, brass nut, missing trc), I'm not sure about the "brass truss rod bolt", he describes the switch as both "a bit dodgy" and "like new" requiring only "contact oil" to get it working properly ... in that case use some before listing it for sale! In all original vgc this would be a decent price. Personally I'd give it a miss.
agreed - Happy Jack - as we know you are the global guru on Bass Collections. I had a look at this and made a cheeky offer at a price I thought it was worth a punt on. It sold fairly soon after. I wasn't happy with the swapped out pups and electrics - probably a very nice bass in there somewhere though.
12.
Now you're talking. I saw an early 1990s 301 for 80 quid recently. I bought one of the about 20 years ago brand new. Absolute gem!!!
Great price, that one has slipped through very cheaply - prices have been creeping up a bit in recent times on these. They are as good as any of the other 20/30 year old MIJ basses that are around IMO. If I spot one of the higher spec natural wood ones I would be very, very interested.
13. SGC Nanyo Bass Collections? Surely the penny will drop soon as to how undervalued and how great these basses are?
14. Agreed Big Stu.....let's live in hope. For anyone wanting a place to start with Bowie this is a cheap place to start: The Platinum Collection David Bowie - MP3 Download - £3.99. I had a £2 download credit with Amazon which made it £1.99 for me! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Platinum-Collection/dp/B001JPWRBK/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1358968309&sr=1-1-catcorr
15. Great thread! Mine is this lovely SGC Nanyo Bass Collection in Metallic Pink. Great bass - cheap as chips, SGC Nanyo Bass Collection's are undervalued and with this being pink as well was a real bargain. Plays well and sounds great. Being pink surely this has to be the cheekiest???
16. Absolutley agreed Mr EAD - most of the good stuff was a little before my time (as you know ) , but the man has a back catalogue that stands alongside the very best IMO.
17. Certainly a grower. Overused term but Bowie is a legend. Slim to no chance I know but would love him to tour.
18. What's the thinking behind this then - are they trying to sell this as a £1200 BIN (with no pics!) without having to pay a BIN listing / insertion fee?
19.
I like them. The Thumb is my favourite but the Dolphin sounds quite similar. Couldn't get on with the weird slopey shape though.
Is it the Bolt On Pro II (2) version to which you refer thisnameistaken?
20. Thanks Fionn - great minds and all that. I had thought of stripping it back (along with a maybe couple of other Warwick's that could do with a spruce up - this time suggested by another wise old sage from BC..(you know who you are) I did some research and saw comments that the grain is tight on the Pro II's and it was a job and a half to get all the paint/primer out - also a bit of pot luck as to whether or not the natual wood underneath is attractive or not.
21.
... but when it comes to jazz gas it's not just about the sound, is it? It's about that big unweidly slab of history, the weight, the feel, and the classic aesthetic too. In an ideal world I'd have both.
I could list what I'd have in an idea world but I'd get RSA from typing the list out Seriously, Aarrgh - don't say that, I'm trying to talk myself out of Jazz GAS, as I hopefully might be needing the honky sound soon. My first 'proper' bass was a MIM Deluxe Active Fender Jazz - still miss it, but I could say that about most stuff I've moved on . Do prefer the Dolphin though - as a very wise man on this very forum once told me "at least you'll stand out from the usual Fender crowd" And I do like to be a very slightly a little different - some have even described me as "odd".
22. So, I was Gasing for a honky, throaty, burpy 'Jazz' Bass and.......the answer was right under my nose. My Warwick Dolphin Pro II, what a great range of sounds. Discuss..........
23.
Just kiddin' I'm no fan of those where the top horn is fused to the neck, what d'ya call 'em? It just seems wrong to me.
Agreed - I think you mean 'singlecuts' - all of them just do not look right - at all - not even slightly... Also Ric's, look horrible / sound horrible, why Mr Hall has such an issue with copies I'll never know -why not design something vaguely attractive and worth hounding and hunting people down for?
24. As above really - Waldemar also bought a jazz from me - this guy has form! - A pleasure from start to finish, all good here. Enjoy the bass. Would be more than happy to deal with again...
