The 1000w version can stay cleaner for much longer though. A lot more versatile. Granted the 500w goes loud anyway. If cost wasn't a factor I wouldn't see any reason to not have the 1000 over the 500. The 1000 covers all the 500 does and more but the 500 doesn't cover what the 1000 can do. Surprised on the 'spongy' descriptions as I describe them as 'quick'. YMMV. There is some truth in the one trick pony comments in these, but it's a damn good trick. One thing to remember , EQ on these...flat setting is bass and treble off (or almost off) mids up full ( so mids is cut only), I think with all EQ at noon and people unaware that this is not the flat settings reinforces the one trick pony thought. The flat setting on these is a wonderful starting point.

Sandberg 48 I've bought two expensive basses in as many weeks, so time to move along some of those I don't use much. Good overall condition - just one dink on the bottom horn is all that I can see that is worthy of a mention. 2 band EQ with push pull for active and passive - in passive mode the treble knob becomes a passive tone control. Agreed - my NS 2 is significantly better than the Euro's I've had. Rebops (as stock) come with the passive EMG HZ Pickups. Pretty bland sounding pickups in my opinion and tonally a long way from an active EMG equipped Euro. I suspect similar electronics would put you in a similar tonal area. They do tend to neck dive too due to the small light weight body.

I Agree the Tonepump (non adjustable) output is on the high side - it's not 100% ideal...but I don't think it's such a big deal that many make it out to be. Of course, we can always turn down the volume pot to reduce the output. Another option is to lower the pickups. Also, another solution I've used is to have a pot between the pre amp and the output jack (enclosed in the cavity) and to adjust the output in this way. Think of it as an added manual trim pot.

These are from the OEM designer and manufacturer of the Tonepump. Michalík Designs (michalik.cz) Things to note from those links. EQ points are quoted as, Bass - 55Hz. Treble 6.5kHz. Note that is different from the clever / techie scopes I mention above at Bass at 70 Hz. and Treble 5 kHz. Note the gain is: - Bass +14db to -4 dB, so lets say a quarter of the way for flat. The Treble is quoted as +14db to -12 dB, so lets say a almost half of the travel on the pot for flat.

No problem - reading that back I should clarify on the mids. The mids are actually pulled out (that is to say mins about 7 dB), this starts at around 600Hz with both pots fully off, both halfway moves the frequency to approx 400Hz (-7 dB) and both on full shifts the frequency to approx 300Hz (-7 dB).

Bass is 70Hz. Treble 5 kHz The preamp is interactive between each pot. As you wind open the pre amp more - the Q on the Bass EQ increases too. Also, the mids change as the pre amp is opened up changing from around 600 Hz, to 300 Hz depending how much the bass and treble is opened up. Theres a few TB / FB discussions on this, and the clever guys have captured these EQ points through their scopes as clear as day.

The Tonepump is a complex pre amp to my ears Flat setting, again to my ears, is around 2/10 on the bass pot and 4/10 on the treble pot. I hear the frequencies change as the pre amp is adjusted, especially when opened up. YMMV.

Orange Bass Terror 1000 - £450 shipped Mainland UK. I can't decide on which I prefer between this and my Markbass TTE 801 so offering them both up and c'est la vie. Great overall condition, lightweight, small footprint. Useful 4 Ohm/8Ohm Switch on the back of the amp. This is one of the later models too, so has the revised DI circuit that addressed the high DI output on earlier models, so no worries on that score. Snap!!! First concert Pantera at Manchester Apollo. Downset support. I was 16, 1994 I'm fairly sure. Both fantastic. This was in the days of getting a coach to and from Manchester Concerts from our local town. On the coach was an older brother of a lad I went through school with, he gave me and my pal a couple of beers, had a good chat about him not realising I was into 'this' sort of music. I remember we were seated in the Apollo and he was standing at the front, about 2 rows of standing at the front, the rest all seated!. So jealous. My neck was sore for days after!! Few months later, Megadeth and CoC, again both great. Youthanasia tour, I took my girlfriend's sister (!!), We got the meet and greet with the band after for donating some tins of food. As memory serves, I had to run into town again to buy the Ltd Ed 2 CD (with Hidden Gems) for the meet and greet token. Good Times.....
