Iron Maiden : Book of souls - thoughts on 'poor production'?
bagsieblue replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
I was watching the 'Standing In The Shadows Of Motown' film last night. I found it interesting when they mentioned the tone of the drums - the fact that even they had a 'tone' or 'note' to them. I find that pretty much most, if not all, modern productions leave me cold - they all sound to me like they've been made in either an aircraft hanger (wide and spacious, no feeling), or that everything is squashed together (love Rush, and the album, but step forward 'Clockwork Angels'). Modern drums go puffffttt, and cymbals shhhhhttt, whereas we all know proper cymbals go tssssst! There's science here, chaps! ....and that's before the modern bass tones - no definition. Rant over!
Agreed - strangely enough I lent my copy of Standing In The Shadows Of Motown to Mr Drums at rehearsal last night. Will be interested to hear his thoughts. -
Getting a Jazz Bass to sound like a Musicman
bagsieblue replied to joshua.harris1234's topic in Bass Guitars
Has all been said above, but the key factors are the pickup type, sweet spot position and the EQ. The voicing on the EQ plays a major role in the Stingray Tone - I have a 1988 Stingray 2 EQ and it is the only bass I have where I do not boost the bass EQ up to approx 60 to 70% ! Mr EAD is right for the quick and dirty option - I have a Zoom B9 that has a "Flea MM" pre set sound. This does a very good impression of a Stingray with most basses, certainly good enough to approximate the tone in a live mix. Now I'm back in the gigging game my one bass solution for different core sounds is a Warwick $$. -

Another easy, hassle free deal with Martin. Look forward to dealing with again at some point, which I'm sure we will do.

Love my Yamaha's, got a TRB 4 and a TRB 4P, I put the TRB 4 up on here as they are quite similar. Not that sure that I want to sell it though, and may well be withdrawn soon. Pics here: -

I assume its the German Pro Series rather than a 'full blown' Warwick. Quick differences I think are: Wenge compared to Ovangkol neck Bronze compared to Nickel frets Brass compared to chrome bridge EQ / Pups??
