1.
Am I right in thinking that the ACG preamp is three stacked pots? Of so why not replace one with a pair of normal pots and put the resulting 4 knob into the bass collection? A nordstrand pre improved my sb465 no end.
Yes, that's correct, As this is a lovely Japanese, unmodded and in great condition I'd prefer to keep it stock.
2.
I think they were called Chicks on Speed, and they were sh*te. I recall Frusciante telling the crowd off for not being 'open minded' enough about them. Rest of the gig - James Brown and Chili's was quality though, this was at Man City's stadium around 2003/4 I think.
Dixie Chicks I think it was if memory serves...?? I was there too, seen RHCP many times, remember JF saying it was uncool for the grief they were getting. James Brown was good - remember him feigning tiredness etc - girl singers put a blanket over his shoulders and half escort him off stage, before he shrugs them off and breaks into crazy dancing. Great stagecraft.
3. PRICE IS £250 For Sale - NOW GONE........ Up For Grabs is my SGC Nanyo Bass Collection SB320 in a Stunning Burst Finish. I've got an ACG EQ02 Preamp that I would like to make use of so putting this up to fund a new bass. Bass Collections as you probably know are highly regarded - the SB320 IMO being the pick of the bunch. Great all round condition, just some sight tarnishing on the bridge and knobs - nothing else really to speak off. Quality hardwear, vertsatile sound from the P/J set up and nice and lightweight. £250 to sell. Pictures below of the SB320.
4. Thanks for the input so far guys. The bass has been in the BC family for some time. Bass was originally green, I believe bass was stripped back, was natural for a while and now sports a, let's say, darker wood stain. Previous owner was upfront and honest about the finish, absolutely no issues there. Its good but not excellent. I'd just like to take the opportunity to do something with it. Either back to natural with a slightly tinted varnish or a nice painted finish is not an impossibility.
5. Dave Wilson appears highly recommended but he is 2 hours from me!
6.
I've known and used Dave many times (as have lots in NE/NW), he isn't the cheapest but he is very good!
Thanks - where is he based (can't see that it is immediately obvious from the website). I'm in Chorley, so Lancs ish based would be best.
7. I've got an old 90's price list giving prices for Fortress and Fortress One. Fortress one being c£100 more made me think this is the active version over the passive version. So, I think the difference is passive / active. That said there is a Fortress R&B which I believe was passive as well!!
8. That is lovely - good job, well done.
9. Hello Guys, I would like to get my Warwick Fortress refinished. It has previously been stripped and refinished - I believe with a Walnut coloured stain. The refinish is a good job but as it is already non original I would like to take the opportunity to strip it back and go for something more to my taste. If the grain is attractive I would have a clear or slightly tinted laquer/varnish, if the grain is not that special then a painted finish. Anybody know of any North West based luthiers who could do the work at a reasonable price? I've tried Steve Robinson and Jack In Salford, both of who have no capacity at the moment to take the work on.
10. Sold a Jazz to Paul - completely easy, hassle free deal. Top guy to deal with - would be more than happy to deal with again in the future. Thanks again Paul.
11. Glad you like it Paul - good solid bass isn't it. The neck is not from a FJB 6 though, it is from Farida's P Bass - Farida FPB-18 Link here: http://www.faridaguitars.co.uk/v1/farida_fpb18.html Which makes this a Rosewood board. In terms of the necks I'd say this is a middle spec of the FJB6 the lowest, the FPB 18 the middle and the FJB20 the top spec. Strangely this FPB 18 P Bass version is very slim, slimmer than the necks on the Farida Jazzes which are already skinny enough. I've had a FJB6, a FJB 20 and the FPB8 (and a Hypersonic HB20 which I think is still in BC land). All great basses.
12. Well.... this has took an interesting twist! Off Topic but.... Most of this is before my time (born '78), being Blackburn born and bred though The Vulcan went down in local folklore. It closed just around the time I got to the age of going out drinking, think I went in a couple of times. It's now been levelled and part of the Blackburn College Site.
13. ...Fortress and a Fortress One please? Both being made in Germany models, not Rockbass. Is it simply active and passive?. Any other differences in pups, woods etc
14. Thanks, great pics aren't they?....
15. Saw them recently: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224752-brand-new-heavies-andrew-levy-last-night-best-gig-ive-seen-best-bassist-and-best-bass-sound/page__p__2311581__hl__heavies__fromsearch__1#entry2311581
16. This is not the bass you are looking for.......
17. Signed, Played here many, many times over the years. Great little venue.
18. Hmm...some tempting offers but currently still here.
19. NOW SOLD Warwick Thumb BO 2008 Ovangkol body and Neck. Genuinely heavy heart to put this up - I hate moving on anything up with a 'W" on the headstock!. Got this fairly recently in a trade but I'm finding the P bass ish neck profile too much. As much as I love this bass the neck profile is not suited to me for long gigs or rehearsals. This Thumb bass dates from 2008. Warwick neck profiles have varied through the years but this is certainly a 'U' shaped profile. Would sell for cash or to trade for a Thumb with a slimmer neck profile, ideally in as great condition as this one is. I'm in Chorley, Lancs. Happy for any trial or inspection or to send any more pics of anything required. Pictures say 1000 words so here they are:
20. Conan, I too had some interesting 'market value' comments on a Spector I was selling too. Agreed they don't seem to sell well, but do attract a lot of attention.
21. Agreed on Peavey gear also being good, but their lower end offerings such as the Milestone bass are not in the same class as say a Farida FJB 6. IMO of course. Love Peavey amps though.
