1. Truss Rod fine so bass is mine later today. First outing the Picked Inn, Evercreech Open Mic tonight.
2.
Perhaps everything should be priced the same to keep things simple
A bit like Utility Furniture ? (Ask someone in their 80's...)
3. If I remember when i did my fretless I had to thin it down a little too.
4.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Oh well, it's up to you of course.
Just teasing.
5.
Given by General Franco? They will be old, then...
You read your Pm's from me yet, young Michael...? Would be sacrilege to make it into a Paisley Bass?
6. Sounded good through my MB802 rig and there's even a bit of edge to the bridge pickup on its own. TBH I'm not expecting it to be a tone monster but a nice set of Flats should help(!)...actually it does need new strings and I have a 4 string roundwound set kicking around somewhere- it was a 5 string set that is missing the B, as given to me by Franco Rocco Prestia no less....
7. What a doofus, I forgot to check the truss rod (although the neck relief is fine). Too many new basses! I went back and he'd gone out so it will be tomorrow before I can check it. And yes it has the obligatory crack on the pickguard......As for the thick neck, coming from a 5 string it is nice and thin! The Mrs has agreed to pay half towards it too...as my Christmas and Birthday present-result!
8. I'm going to give it a play and see if I can revert to 4 strings now....!
9. He's asking £1300 but intimated it could go for less...
10. It's a good price but has been modded, there again it has loads of Mojo.....I'm torn! ( and a 5 string player but it is so f***ing cool!!!)
11. I've been offered the above. What do you guys think? Its been extensively modded to be a working Bass, the guy replaced the stock tuners with Grovers, added another Fender pickup, moved the jack socket to the edge, replaced the knobs. Also replaced the bridge with one that intonates! Comes in the original black tolex case with red velvet lining
12.
I think the specs are very different. The four banger is basswood, fiver is Figured Ash, five is active, etc... Four: http://www.basscentr...C-PORTRAIT.html Five: http://www.basscentr...olar-flare.html
Yes, that was not apparent from the BD site but still a lot extra?
13. Bass Direct are selling Bass Collection Basses. The 4 string Jazz bass is £495 The 5 String Jazz bass is £995 http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Bass_Collection.html
14.
I knew his brother "Stretch".
and his other brother, the cyclist, Lance...
15. Couldn't you use thinned down matches? The red ends would make great position markers and if lit during the gig, would aid finger positioning too..... Being more serious, I used Veneers Online who don't appear to have an eBay listing now but do still have a website. I think a piece of veneer cost me £2.10 or something daft.
16. There again you could always apply for this on JMB: We are a Blues/Rock Covers Band and we unexpectedly find ourselves without a Bass Player for a gig in ******* on 28th October. If you are up for a challenge, free food and all the beer you can drink I can send you our set list and we can arrange for you to meet the other members of the band and run through the set on 26th October. So if you feel you can help out an ageing group of rockers contact ********** to be a part of the band for this Halloween gig. Auditions are currently being held for a new Bass Player if you would like to be considered.
17. Judging by the number of similar issues I've heard about this amp, they will be well versed in dealing with it! Not being mealy -mouthed here but kudos for their quick response and generous offer. I had a 3 year correspondence( phone and email) with a 'renowned' US Luthier who faithfully promised me he would send me a small inexpensive part ( I even offered to pay all costs) but it never materialised.....
18. I have a 5 string short scale and just find it easier to play. There's one for sale on here too....
19. I had a fretted one, I expect this will go up in price nearer the cut! It was substantially made and weighs just under around 10.5 pounds. Not sure it has a metal sub-frame mind? I stuck a set of flats on it rather than have that bronzy zing
