Two gigs yesterday, 2 different bands, first Soul ,second Americana. One on the back of a Trailer that must have failed its MOT 20 years ago! Narrow, slippy and uneven ( and that was just the drumming!). Soundguy was clueless and there was just 1 monitor for 7 of us. Oh, and the organiser came over just before we were starting telling us she had 2 acts written in at our time, so our 45 minute set became 30 minutes..... 2nd gig at Prime the Pump Folk Festival in Westbury in the evening. Proper sound, the engineer came out to meet us, checked out our requirements (although they were sent in advance) and did the front of house sound. Another tech. did our individual monitor sound from on stage with a tablet. We got to play the full 45 minutes, although usual drummer could not make this gig, sometimes nice to play as a 4 piece!

This is absolutely one of my favourite LADH episodes ever! I regularly go back and watch the whole episode again and again. If you watch the whole episode she does some faux saxophone with her voice,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unoYkG3EUwc&index=4&list=RDH9lyrOETXao. The album she was promo-ing was Bible Belt ( produced by Betty Wright no less) which is terrific, later stuff not so much...... A few years ago I went to see Stevie Wonder in Hyde Park and DB was on the supporting bill in another tent. One of my big regrets was that I missed her that day...like the time I went to Disney in Florida with the kids and saw posters up for The Aaron Neville Band, from the day before!!

Markbass CMD151P for sale here at £500. Your 600 euros plus the sale of the Minimark should cover that?

Yes, there were some lovely backing vox from all the band, spot on harmonies too.
Well this afternoon they were back about one and a half hours down the road, so I just couldn't pass up the chance of seeing them again. Unfortunately, their New'Awlins cadences proved a bit too sophisticated for this audience. (The term flogging a dead horse comes to mind.) It was, however, a free festival, so I suppose that had something to do with the mismatch. On top of that the sound engineers were utter tools. During the gig, various vocal mics and instruments cut out - all of them at least once, sometimes for minutes - only to return way too loud. They really had to earn this one. Still, they pressed on gracefully and they even got the crowd to move a bit near the end. Great band, wrong festival. Oh, and I too got to shake Cornell Williams' hand! Such an awesome player.
Was it the '2 keyboards' lineup or had the Guitar resurfaced?

Delivery date for the new TE Elf head
There is also a photo of a bloke having it in his back pocket, not really an issue IMO Edit - can't find that pic now hahaha
Thing it it would really fit my back pocket cos I don't wear designer jeans. In her case half the bloody amp is showing, and no-one would actually walk around like that, it's hardly an i-Phone.... Of course no company would cynically pose a photo, knowing it would get talked about in forums and thus boost interest in the amp....? -
Affinity's are MIC I think, whilst the VM MII. I have a 5 String Jaguar which is 34" neck and MII and no issues.

Well it's good to know it really will fit in your back pocket: (warning: gratuitously stupid sexist content follows) -
Well I eventually got to the gig last night, nightmare travelling from South Somerset to Bristol as the main A37 was closed just outside the outskirts and long diversion.....! Unfortunately, as the aforementioned guitarist Derwin 'Big D' Perkins was not with them, there was another keyboard player who blocked my view of Cornell Williams on Bass. Not sure if this has been the band line-up for a while, but got the feeling they were 'jamming out' some numbers in the absence of guitar? That said they were sh*t hot, the drummer was immense, as were all the Band to be fair. They all look to genuinely enjoy what they are doing, with lots of quips and banter in between the songs. Great harmonies and just so so funky. Just missed a bit of guitar cutting through.....
What import certificates (perhaps Germany is different to UK)? I didn't do anything, except order it and pay for the customs tax/duty once it had arrived in the country pending final delivery to me.
Further to my USA Squire Jag story, I then found one in Germany on eBay which was sent with no problems.
can of worms, well and truly opened!! I don't sit on the fence with this topic. I have my views and my ears but IME I can tell the difference between ash & alder, active or not, maple or rosewood. Then plug in a steinberger (old one) and there's a totally different tone compared to anything made of wood
Are they woodworms?

Don't see what all the fuss is about. Despite the Protestations (LOL) there is a magic money tree of around £1billion when it suits.....

You mean some of you get paid for gigs...?

I tried to import a Squire Jag bass from the US that was listed as able to be sold into the UK with no further charges etc etc. Pressed the Buy button only to get an e Bay message saying 'not available in the UK'. Contacted the US seller who was not aware of Cites and when he read the details said he was not willing to sell to me. From what I remember there is an $80 fee for one off imports with a 2 month delay. Sellers who send lots of instruments can pay $200 up front and then just $30 per instrument. It might explain why Squire have so few Basses in their range currently... With a Warmoth, one would have thought they will be on top of it all: all you would do is pay!

I'm going to see them on Friday in Bristol. Glad to hear the AMG are with him as it was not clear on the listing if he was with a Band. I saw them years ago in Ripley, Yorks., apparently the guitarist had to be winched onto the stage as he was so big he could not climb the steps! I've seen JC in Central Park solo, with the AMG and as keys with Bonnie Raitt too. Looking on his website he'll do a gig at your house, think it is $5000. If however you want an executive producer credit on his album that will cost you $25,000! Fabulously funky band, makes Jools Holland look like a beginner!

Nice looking Bass. Eastwood often have direct sales if you sign up on their website although they also do guitars which seem to have the biggest reductions. I think they hold stock in the UK despite being Canadian.

What are you listening to right now?

Decided to revisit the 80's with the first 3 Deacon Blue Albums: Raintown, Where the World knows your Name and Fellow Hoodlums. Got all 3 off eBay secondhand for less than £5 and loving Ewen Vernall's basslines. Also 'All the Roadrunning' by Knopfler and Emmy-Lou: very mellow and addictive. -
Hypothetical LM4 - what would you want
yorks5stringer replied to Count Bassy's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd rather pay the extra to have something made in the country of origin. I don't agree with exploiting countries for cheap labour & I'm already forced to pay for things that are made in the Far East as there's often no alternatives made closer to home.
Most of the components are sourced from the Far East ( presumably due to lower labour costs) , so on that basis would probably rule it out for you anyway...!? -
3 gigs this weekend. Saturday Night depping with a Blues Band in Glasto was dire, drummer far too loud and everyone else then far too loud as well. I was wearing ear plugs but could not hear myself due to the overall sound level. Band mixed own sound too...I've told them I never wish to play with them again.... Sunday pm at Frome Food Market, couldn't be more of a contrast, great sound by Luke from Nomad and a 45 minute set with Hello Hopeville, our Americana band. Only issue is all the roads get closed in the town centre so a bit of a pain lugging Bass and small combo too. Sunday evening was back in Glasto with Mofuso (Motown, funk and soul). A storming set from our twin singers and given the last 2 rehearsals have been without them, they did a great job. We did all forget how "I need your love so bad" went, so abandoned it!
I have a soft spot for Markbass, but I thought the idea of them using Indonesian manufacturing was that the final product was cheaper? At first it was a little cheaper, now, not so much. The LM3 is an old design now, it should be selling cheaper. Ultimately, the decision was probably pure profit.
Don't follow your logic. They reduced prices following the move to Indonesia so it was a win/win. Presumably the saving meant they could still make money on it and yet still reduce the prices. The reasons they have gone up since is due to 'exchange issues' As for 'pure profit': if a company does not make money then it makes it difficult to invest in r&d and new products such as replacing the LMIII. Agree it is towards the the end of its life-cycle, but MB have introduced a raft of new amps and combos over the last couple of years....
