2. I seem to remember Marco appearing on this forum a few years ago saying that as many of the components were sourced from the far east, it made sense to assemble them there too.I think there is still final QC in Italy? Oh, and I've had their stuff from both countries and not noticed any difference, other than when they first moved to Indonesia, the prices dropped. However that benefit has now been neutralised....
3. I made a couple from the pearl plastic years ago and used a router: not to be advised if you have no experience with them! Used the original as template with a bearing bit. The pickup cutouts are more problematic unless you have a dremel type tool or just old fashioned files and a drill. Expect there's a youtube video showing you how to do it somewhere...
4. I used to play in a loud band (keys, sax, guitar, drums, 2 vox) with a Godin A5 semi bass and no issues. Secondhand they go for around £400ish, at least that's what i sold mine for!
5. Having the £ to buy a Bass/Basses does not necessarily mean happiness: the 3 new Basses I have bought this year have all had issues and 2 were returned and the one I kept was dented before it reached me.
6. Whenever I see a solo singer-songwriter get up at our Open Mic, I always ask them if they'd like a little Bass to beef up their sound. They usually agree....next time you play Glasto Ed, I'm up for it!
7. I had the hots for a Paisley Bass, bought a donor Bass and printed off the pattern on paper but the Bass was rubbish so sent it back. Have scratched that itch and now moved on. I was going to use an air brush and acrylic paint to do the pink burst effect but only got as far as buying the base primer, Zinnser BIN which will cover anything! David Konig from Retrovibe was telling me at the recent S W Bash he'd done a pattern on one of his and it went well and looked v effective...
8. "Britain has had enough of Experts" M Gove.
9. Ironic the topic one below is 'Up and coming young female bassists' I'm sure if they ventured on here they'd be really impressed by a load of sad old blokes still doing knob gags. Maybe it'll give Sylvia Bluejay some wacky content for her next Bassist Magazine column......? There was me thinking we were now in 2017, must have got it wrong, it's still 1977.
10. I went totally over to flats ( apart from some groundwounds I got free) on my Basses and thought I would be playing them for life. Then I got a Squire Jag with Roundwounds recently that did not give me grey fingers (!) and I have grown over the last few weeks to really like them. They give more nuance to the low B ( which may be due to the active circuit too). Anyway, I have not swapped them over but will leave them on. These Fender Rounds seem easy on the fingers, some I have had in the past were quite abrasive too...
11. The Markbass is 300 watts unless plugged into an extension which then makes it 500 watts but am confused. The 102 P is a 2x10 combo, the 121P is a 1x12 combo. Which do you mean? Either are pokey, I have the 121p combo and pair it up with a NYC 121 cab for extra heft....
12. Mojoke works for MLS, it could be worth having a word with him if your retailer is being awkward?
13. There's a gap in the market someone could fill: bespoke truss rod covers!
14. I see Scott Devine of SBL has just done a quick review of 7 new Sires
15.
First if all there's no "the invisible bear" There are many invisible bears, there all over and I'm sure there's a few in London. Secondly you'd have to define the position of the hump, there are several. 1.The Vertical Candle Light. 2.The Reverse Incline 3.The Old Smokey 4.The Exxon Drill Expedition 5.The " Let's Go Fishing" 6.The Route 66 7.The Lower East Side Fandango 8. The "Saturday Night Fever" And last but not least; 9.The Bus Stop (don't ask) If your going to post a perspective, we need more detail. Blue
I thought it was Werewolves in London, not Bears?
16. i recently tried to buy a Bass on eBay from the USA with a rosewood board. Although it was offered under the 'no extra charges' deal they do, when I pressed the butto,n eBay blocked the sale. i contacted the shop in the US who were not aware of CITES and I sent them a link to the website. Apparently regular sellers can register for $200 and send stuff fairly easily, one off sales cost $75 and are subject to an 8 week delay. The Seller did not want to get involved so I found another Bass in Germany, but not my choice of colour...
17. You might want to post this where those who do not buy read as well, such as General and Bass Guitars?
18.
TBF it does come with D'addario Chromes which are ~£30+ He also says he has removed the top layer of varnish, can't see it in the photos but they could be poor photos.
Not if they were supplied as standard. There's a B stock one on Thomann now, £85
19.
http://www.entwistlepickups.com/
That's what I meant, the pickups were Entwistles, .but not the Bass!
20. LOL , seller says it may be an 'Alan Entwistle' due to that being the only writing on the Bass..on the pickups!
21. I saw those necks when I was looking at the worse case scenario of replacing the neck of my rattling truss rod Squier....however G4M kindly sent the Bass back to Fender who refused to return it! Got a new Bass on the way so fingers crossed. That's a pretty looking neck you've got coming....
22. Just an update, not for the squeamish...! Despite me saying to G4M on a number of occasions that i did not want to lose the Bass under any circumstance, they sent it back to Fender who promptly credited them with the money and said it was un-repairable. G4M rang me yesterday to tell me and I was not pleased. I then raised a complaint and got a very apologetic team leader ring me today who offered me a credit of £130 over and above what I'd paid for the Bass in recognition that they had totally screwed up! At first it was to buy a replacement with them but they had nothing so they agreed to credit me with the money to my bank account. I then found the same Bass I had on eBay in the US, tried to order it but eBay (bloody Cites) would not allow the transaction. I spoke to the shop in the US and they were reluctant to send it when they realised the implications. Found another one in Germany although not Red but Sunburst so have ordered that. With the extra they gave me I could get it sprayed Red...
