1. Selling my Bass Uke to clear some space. It comes with a nice padded Thomann soft gig bag too. Although a Deco, I can't find any issues with it other than some tiny minor imperfections in the wood and a miniscule dint on the leading edge just above the pre-amp and built in tuner, too small to photograph. I only mention these for full disclosure purposes. Great for noodling acoustically at home or for Folk Open mics (with amplified back-up)! My price includes postage to UK mainland* by Courier and the Uke will be double boxed in the original Thomann cartons. As Decos now seem to be swept up in milliseconds, and the full price for these is £125 without the case, my price represents a significant saving, and less than I paid new in total. Any questions, please PM me.
2. With the exception of the Alain Caron 121 Lite combo which is slightly different: Top-level sounding combo designed with bass legend Alain Caron, the COMBO 121 LITE is a powerful bi-amp combo, now updated with a 300W power amp for the new compression driver, and 500W power amp for the 12” speaker with maximum fidelity, headroom and dynamics! Alain Caron is known for his high standards, and the components in this combo were carefully chosen to reach those standards. This is the best-sounding bass combo ever!
3. Maybe a German one next (U-bahn), with Jeff Berlin at the epicentre?
4. Mid-week gig at The Crown in Sherborne with Hello Hopeville, the Americana band. Made my vocal debut on 'Jackson' the Johnny Cash song with the repeated whispered 'Jackson' vocal line at the end. The song went down very well as much of our other material is not mainstream low-hanging fruit. Also debuted the Markbass 802 which coped easily with the volumes (no drummer) line-up. Slebs in the audience included Mickyboro and wife of this parish, who also left with a purchased Markbass 801 under their arms.
5. Great transaction with Mick. He (and Helen) even came and watched me at a gig...and stayed to the end! Buy from/sell too with confidence.
6. Got to admit I hardly heard the difference when disconnecting the piezo and was never troubled by the fan either......what's that, it's 2.35!
7. Plenty on YouTube showing conversions, expect you'll get the 'official line' from MB or their repair agents however. Maybe pick up a cheap LMIII head over here if you don't want to take the risk?
8. I believe it was an ex Gladys Knight and the Pips bassist's instrument....
9. When I read the email from Daptone and it said she 'had heroically passed' I thought it meant she had beaten it.. Saddened by this and all the others recently. Saw her at The Sage in Gateshead and in Manchester too.
10. As others have said clean the surfaces so there is 'face to face' contact between the nut and the wood underneath. Your side on photo demonstrates that the glue is just to stop side to side movement- just look at the downward tension of the strings on the nut.
11. They cost more because of that subject that is taboo......
12.
Following on from theBrig, my wife put up a shout on her Facebook page saying I was selling some of my electric guitars and drums. Of her 500 'Friends' just one said her boy 'might' be interested. This did'nt work so we had a garage sale with about 300 attending, half who were teens and tweens. The screens and computer games went in a flash. Barely anyone even glanced at the guitars.
Just probably not Fenders....!
13. On a totally separate but nevertheless related theme, I also like Sprouts
14.
^^ My experience also. I'd rather plug into a wet lettuce using a coat hanger for a guitar cable.
Dunno, should be good for metal....
15. Have to take gentle issue around 'average filler stuff' ! They were doing material with quirky arrangements, haunting vocals and meaningful lyrics at a time when it was not fashionable, the British Steely Dan? Just looking for my copy of one of their CDs. I believe they were signed to the Kitchenware label initally and based in the NE. Hot dog, jumpin frog, Albuquerque!
16. Good luck, try a search, sure there has been a thread about playing on ships before? At least you'll get away from all the drones...!
17. The OP said "I am looking for an amp I can carry easily (on the train, walking to rehearsals)" ....I wouldn't like to do that with a Mark Bass CMD 121P, relatively light though it is! I think nothing larger than a 10" speaker is the way to go otherwise too bulky/heavy. I've just returned a GK MB110 to Gear4music, it may come up as a B Stock soon ( as a return and not damaged). I paid just under £290 for it so you may get £20 off. Fairly lightweight (21.lbs) and 14.5" X 12.5"
18.
Yes, Amy Turtle, Meg Richardson & Benny were all well known for their love of Jazz basses.
Ah, but Miss Diane was P.Bass girl...
19. I have a 30" Ibanez Artcore 5er which is punchy, but less so in my case as I have flats on it. You are welcome to try it, funny how 3 of us on this thread are in Somerset!
20. Went to see Roachford at Sturminster Newton Exchange near me on Friday gone. Not a big venue, I've played there! Anyway, he was excellent apart from the Oasis cover he did (he has a Covers album out), just did not seem 'right'. Bassist had a MB CMD 115 P with a Blackline 151 cab on top. He played an old, style Precision, nice melodic playing ,nothing flashy. Did not get his name properly, sounded like 'Yoyo Baez'. Guitarist was Roachford's younger brother Stephen. Spoke to the promoter about getting a gig there for Hello Hopeville and then to ex Sabbath Bassist Jo Burt: I know him from the local scene.
21. If solely acoustic instruments I'd recommend a Micromark 801. Very portable( 11inch cube), weighs nothing, I used mine at Open Mics and there's one for sale on this very site....
22. Absolutely immaculate Markbass Micromark 801 complete with Roqsolid cover. It's the loudest 45 watt amp I've ever had and compared to a GK MB110 which I just bought and am sending back, it keeps up considering it is less than 50% of the power. I only use 5 string basses and never had it distort or fart out! I'm only getting rid of it for a Micromark 802 It will be packed in the original box and is priced to include Courier to mainland UK. Still has removable QC sticker on the grill. Seen these priced new at £350 post Br....! 23. Drop JE an email, I found him very helpful with mine even though it was 3rd hand!
24. I'm with an Americana Band and we do a lot of roots stuff: Gillian Welsh, Michelle Shocked, Emmy-Lou etc and its really refreshing just to sit back and do Root-5th and keep it dead simple. In fact sometimes I have to tell myself to stop embellishing! We have no drummer ( double negative?) so I'm in charge of tempo and I then get a chance to sit back and listen to the harmonies.
