1. I had a Godin A5 fretted but have heard good things about the fretless cousin.......no feedback and well made, played like butter!
2.
This month's issue is a bit of a dog. The Sting interview ain't bad, but the mag still suffers from poor proofreading (apparently, Sting's 57 P bass has a "roundwound" pickup in it...), there's another interview with Tim Commerford, yet he was the cover star less than a year ago, and the rather excellent "bass albums" feature which used to appear at the back and was written by the superb Mike Brooks has been replaced by articles about vintage basses, which, really, is just a glorified ad for Andy Baxter's bass shop. My missus pays for my subscription, I've asked her to cancel it. Yes, the Sting interview seems to have been edited so it reads as if he says he has an original pickup in his 57 P, 'turned in a lathe' by Leo Fender but his tech says it is a Seymour Duncan.... 3. Looking at it I could see lots of random screws in it, then realised it was the decking....
4. I've got the Ibby Artcore, traded it for my Warwick Star Bass as it looks a bit more 'roots' and suits the Americana Band I'm in. The B string is fine, given I've swapped the rounds out for some flats. True about the relicing, it is a bit machine-like from close up but joe public cares not one jot...
5. Sorry, derailed the thread by misreading 'garotte' as 'carrot'...must go to savespekkers
6.
Placing just a single national TV ad spot on ITV costs up to £60000. That ad would be viewed by hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people who do not play bass guitar and never will. Hence there would be a very high outlay for a high level of wastage. Advertisers seeking a specialised audience use specialist media in order to minimise cost and wastage. That's why they use musical instrument magazines, websites like BassChat and low visibility programmes like Google Adwords that deliver ads in response to keyword searches. Basically, it's the difference between buying an atom bomb to drop on a city just to kill one person or sneaking up behind him in the pub with a garotte. (Sorry, I really must work on my analogies).
How do you kill someone with a carrot?
7. Wondering if a 'reliced' or 'road-worn' version would sell...?
8. Imagine you are the Bassist with everything, from bespoke Bass, hand-wired amp, old school fridge cab ( and a roadie to lift it),monogrammed picks, leather hand -tooled gig bag, personalised registration on your splitter van ( which only you and the roadie use)? I have the ultimate accessory, available in rolls of 240 sheets.....and ideal for outbreaks of GAS!
9. There's an unboxing of a PJ Club 100 elsewhere on BC. Seems the Eden EC28 recommended earlier has gone back up to £400+
10. Suggest you visit the S.E.BB blog to see a whole room of the blighters....!
11. I went with the 'stealth' approach to my local acoustic OM. Turned up with a Bass Uke and a MarkBass 801 and after a few weeks then ditched the Bass Uke and took along an Electric (but semi acoustic) Bass namely a Warwick Star Bass. Have now got an Ibanez Artcore Bass which does not upset the purists...! Oh, and I stick Flatwounds on too.
12. I shuddered when a guy walked into a shop I was browsing in, to show off his new guitar he'd bought from Thomann 'quite a bit cheaper than you sell it for'. What was the shop guy expected to say?
13. http://uk.yamaha.com...amps/thr/thr10/ These are small....
14. I think 'Molan' Basschatter might be worth speaking to as Bassgear used to stock Zon Basses.
15.
Why do people who live on a coast, or in a remote region, consistently put up their items for sale and refuse point blank to post them? Top tip....a lot of your potential buyers live too far away to get to you without difficulty and fish don't play bass. Sorry for pointing this out but it may help you when you're wondering why your stuff doesn't sell.
Pretty sure I've seen him play guitar mind..!
16. Tried their Facebook and Twitter accounts? Seems a bit odd (if it were a scam) to partially fulfil the order...?
17. They are the 'greenest' guitar maker however....!
18. My Dad had a large collection of Jazz 78's, so no musical help there...! Actually, a cousin of his played in the Squadronaires. My folks paid for piano lessons and bought me an acoustic guitar. Soon ditched those for Bass, my wife to be bought me a Gibson EB2 for my 20th Birthday!
19. I'm sure there is someone..................... out on eBay who would do a conversion for you!
20. Any closer to the bridge and it would be travelling across it...
