1. 'Jim Morrison has previously flirted with larger ensembles, which saw his band expanded to a 32-piece chamber orchestra. Genesis chose to close side two of Lamb Lies Down on Broadway with a song celebrating that group. ' Ah yes, when one door closes, another opens,32 times.... you can here it banging in the background, if you listen closely.
2. Following the success of Elvis and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, both Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix are keen to record with them.
3. Saw Nearly Dan in Bath last night. Usual tight show. New Bassist Ollie Collins still reading the charts...didn't realise he was so quite well known up Manchester way!
4. Programme almost a total embarrassment. Grade asking dumb stupid questions, Burt looking very uneasy and a host of motley 'artists' murdering the songs. Sophie Ellis-Bextor....! That Michael chappy looked terrified. Only decent bit the medley partially sung by Burt and his Orchestra.
5. Richard Marx was chatting to Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth about joining their spin -off band. He then found out it's name and ruled himself out.
6.
When Michael Jackson made his Dangerous album, we was hoping that it would not be compared with his previous work. So he was quite disappointed when one critic described it as "not bad".
The same critic described another one as "Off the Wall" Pink Floyd were going to sue for copyright.
7. Got quite a few ticket stubs but also loads of poster s from 1973-1976 of Bands who played at Leeds Poly and Uni, including a Steely Dan one. Also got a set of signed strings in a tin with 'KTDA' (keep the dream alive) written on from Franco Rocco Prestia. Oh, and a Blockheads set list from a couple of years ago, to be fair it's just written on plain A4 in felt tip and has no provenance other than Norman's sweat all over it.....! I don't think Fiona Bruce would be interested in any of it....
8.
Meanwhile Jerry Goodman is reforming The Flock. Rumoured to be doing a cover of Bad Company's Seagull. (congrats on the milestone, btw)
Ah yes,' The Flock', went on to become 'Lamb' I believe.
9. Once owned by the great Lowell George however....(no irony intended)
10. I always go for a studio with an iconic zebra crossing situated outside......comes in handy for album covers!
11. Two bands who would never appear on the same Bill: A Flock of Seagulls and The Turtles.
12. Mooted collaboration of Snoop Dog, Snarky Puppy, Richard Bona, and The Fabulous Poodles...'how much is that Doggy in the Window'?
13. Never has the expression " all that glitters........" been more true.
14.
Once again, the photo in question is NOT on the cover of the magazine.
I suspect you have no input on photo or editorial matters at BGM other than your esteemed column(?), but the fact it is not on the cover but within, prevents it being censored by the likes of WH Smith, but does not alter it being a fairly offensive image, irrespective of the timing IMHO. As I have said already, as the actual interview itself was fairly non controversial (unless you are Bradley Wiggins), one wonders if TC sought a way to make it stand out a bit. I am not familiar with his body of work however, and it may be that Steinbergers and Stens are indeed central to his music...... NB Yes, I know it is not a Sten gun but it made good copy.....
15.
Outrageous that, in this day and age, the editor of a major publication thinks it's ok to run a picture of a musician toting a Steinberger... Bloody lefties!
Pedant alert; it's definitely a right-hand strung instrument......
16.
I guess they didn't show him a machine?
Just a machine.... gun.
17. Spoiler Alert: the actual interview with him is hardly controversial, he has a bit of a beef about the huge heroin problem in the USA and how Lance Armstrong was wrongly vilified for taking performance enhancing drugs (they are big mates). The rest is pretty tame, I was expecting real Rage....
18.
On a point of order, Chris, the cover does NOT feature that photo. Apart from that, I entirely agree.
....though p 22 shows the [s]retard [/s]said Bassist with a black mask over his head, headphones on his..head, a Steinberger in one hand and a sub machine gun in the other, both pointing at the camera.... Still, there's no such thing as bad publicity?
19.
i duno, 2 bad necks out of 8 dekos is probably quite good!
What you need is a brass neck!
20.
It's bad timing and bad taste, but it's entirely reflective of his (and his cohorts in RATMs) political views - they have always supported left-wing revolutionary political organisations. AK-47s and balaclavas may not have much to do with bass, but they have a clear connection with Cummerford's music and politics. He's also pimping his latest band Wakrat, so expect more media coverage and publicity shots/comments that'll cause controversy. He's a great bassist, but a bit of a dick.
Hence my comment, 'is he with 'Tool'.....?
