1. Must be the cheapest Fretless 5 String For Sale around at the moment and is as new having been converted from a fretted version. It also has been fitted with a set of £25 Status Hot Wires Nylon Flats, so there will be no wear on the profiled fingerboard in the future: Fretless Basses usually use a harder wood for the fingerboard as there are no frets to stop the strings from digging in and wearing away the wood.. Another issue with home made de-frets is that the side dots are in the wrong place, this has been cleverly overcome by white lining all the old fret end spaces and them being longer at the significant ones (3,5,7,9 etc). Also the old side dots have been darkened down to being hardly visible. The de-fret involved carefully removing the frets, filling the slots with Wenge veneer, trimming, smoothing and re-profiling the fingerboard and adjusting the action at the saddle and re-cutting the nut. If you are thinking this will be a rough DIY job please be aware I have built a number of basses from scratch (bare wood, not assembled from parts) and was an Intern with a well known Yorkshire Luthier for over 3 years working on a number of Guitars and Basses. Having taken some of the neck relief out now, the Bass 'Plays like Butter' (Copyright),weighs only 8.5 lbs on the luggage scales and has Passive and Active modes with 2 Band EQ and Pickup Blend. Apart from the DD stamp the Bass is cosmetically un-marked and is being sold for the total cost of the original Bass, Strings and Sundries used in the conversion. *Note: Decos are sold by Thomann for much less than the normal price as they are 'For Decoration Only' and are supposedly not playable. This Bass had no such faults before conversion or now. Being a special 'Art' Deco version, it comes with a Double D stamp on the heel of the body, so good it was stamped twice! 'Art' Deco is my little joke, it’s just a normal Deco really! This is a budget entry into the world of Fretless Bass, yet is a perfectly giggable instrument in its own right. The Bass will be packed carefully in the original double boxes and will also come with 2 Allen Keys for Truss Rod and Saddle adjustment and an additional 26 piece Toolkit free of charge! Postage will be at cost depending on which delivery option the Buyer prefers.
 2.
Michael Bublé only drinks champagne, or Perrier if driving.
That's only cos he's French- Canadian
 3. Muse were just a timid band from Devon originally called Mouse until one day a local publican misspelt their name. The rest, is as they say, history.
 4. I wonder what Buster Bloodvessel would say? ( and not Lip Up Fatty)
 5.
Seventies novelty hit Popcorn was re-recorded some years ago in an advertising tie-up, by a band calling themselves I Can't Believe It's Hot Butter.
Don't be embedding video links please, otherwise readers will think this thread knows what it's doing......
 6.
I'd forgotten about that pop gem, now I remember the video they shot, on the Zebra crossing.
Times have changed since then, nowadays you would not be allowed to shoot a Zebra crossing. However being Israelis and Kibbutznics, they were at ease with the bare feet rule
 7. Israeli 60's Popsters Esther and Abi Ofarim originally planned to record their Hit "Cinderella Rockafeller" in Esher but in the end opted for St Johns Wood....
 8.
Like any acoustic bass guitar, it depends what you want to hear. They are very nice basses, all, even the top of the range, now made in China. The very earliest were actually handbuilt by Lakewood for Warwick, and were apparently very loud, utterly amazing, and humongously expensive. The current version will, like almost an other ABG, hold its own with a quiet acoustic guitar or two, but beyond that will need an amp. Mine was The Alien fretted four and was very nice ( and free, too!), but for my ABG needs was outclassed in every way by a £300 Fender Kingman. Not that the Kingman was necessarily better, it just suited ME better...
Those Alien Basses always sounded better in New York.
 9.
The pub was The Duchess of York, otherwise just The Duchess.. one of the top venues in the region for decades! I remember that shop - they did 'that' question on the bassist in the pro band I was in at the time. He said the usual 'how do I know unless..' and being met with a dumb gaze he just walked out without spending several hundred pounds on whatever P bass it was. JSG Music, later Spectre Sound. Used to be pretty much THE shop in the county.. really laid back - 'you want to try a bass? Cables are there, and amps are there. Have a play.' and great selection of new and used gear so worthy of a day out for the whole band. One of the first discounters, they ended up getting undercut themselves with the advent of internet shopping. No longer there.
Yes, The Duchess. Saw Stevie Marriot there post Humble Pie and probably the best gig ever, Aimee Mann with her producer at the time Jon Brion. She was living in London at the time and they played her then current and back catalogue, just guitar and bass. Mesmerising. Lived near JSG/Spectre Sound, it was shocking to see the decline over the years as at one time they had a huge range of stock.
 10.
And Boar Lane looked like Brooklyn back then, but nobody realised.
Nice photo, I got the JD from the shop next to the pub, was it called the Princess of Wales?
 11.
Only if you have a bunch of keys.
Black Keys?
 12. Years ago (30 plus) in Leeds there were a number of Second Hand shops, on Brigate and Boar Lane are two I can easily recall. I used to work in the City Centre then and on my lunch break would do a quick tour of the shop windows to see what Basses were around. These windows were literally crammed with items and I recall watching a White JD Roadie Supernatural Bass start at £500 and after about 6 months it had come down to £395. I went in, they were not keen on pulling it out of the window if I was not going to buy ( obvious question, how can I know I want to buy it without looking and playing it) so reluctantly they got it out. With the trade in of a Laney combo I had won it cost me £250 and came with a case. Traded it in few years later for a 5 string Status Groove Bass....hindsight, its a wonderful thing!
 13.
'The Monkees' name is actually badly spelt and grammatically incorrect. It was meant to be 'Les Mes Clefs'.
I've just come back from a daytrip to Monkey World http://www.monkeyworld.org/. Coincidence?
 14. Sharp contrast to Rick Turner who dicked me around for over a year and I gave up in disgust! Emailed him at least 6 times to which he replied to some, then I even phoned him and he promised me the spare part which never materialised, as did his endorsing Artist.
 15. It is a little known fact that Mark King turned down offers from Queen, The Kings of Leon, Prince, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Count Bishops, Franz Ferdinand and The Baron Knights (2 separate offers).
 16.
I always reply, unless it's york5stringer. When I joined BassChat, the memo I received said not to reply to his PMs. Didn't you all get the same?
Tis true, I received the same Memo too, so they must have sent it to everybody.
 17. The Cotton Mill Boys, an Irish Showband from the 60 's actually contributed to the demise of Cotton Mills by wearing Nylon shirts.
 18.
What you're seeing here is the reality of the internet, regrettably. Because we all use IDs and avatars, it's only too easy for folk to forget the "ID" they're being rude to is a real person with feelings. Don't worry York5stringer, most of us here would email you back and be friendly. We might even have a short chat. But like in all things, there's always some plonker out there who lets us all down.
19.
I was daft enough to answer two 'wanted ads' by the same chap over a period of several months for two different things, didn't get a reply to either. I put it down to bad manners but it seems maybe not.
How do you know we are talking about the same chap? I take your point however!
 20.
Next one must be due soon
Don't worry it will only take me 20 minutes to read before the next one comes...( and that will be Sylvia's Column-I'm a slow reader)!
 21. OK thanks for your answers, I was wondering if it was just me. Could someone please explain how "Has left the conversation" Notification works? Does this happen if a reply is not made within a certain time, or is this receiver activated? Full disclosure (as you will have guessed), I PM'd someone 8 days ago, they read the PM almost immediately and now it states "Has left the conversation". I was going to PM them again to see if they had missed the original PM but am unsure if "Has left the conversation" means "Leave me alone"!!.
 22.
Agreed, but if someone uses the mobile only version, you actually have to click on the navigations function to see whether you have any messages. I've missed messages this way and think I'm right in saying that once you do check them on a mobile, if you've received multiple messages, once you've clicked the first one the number disappears. Either that or there's something screwy going on with my iPad.
If,at my end the message is marked as "Read at 10.15 am", would this indicate it has been read on the Mobile version? I guess beyond that it could have been deleted/lost or whatever...
 23.
Can't find "Birdland" but here's Toto with Mr Sklar... love the tone of his vibe. https://www.youtube....h?v=lRH_OZbRvZ8 Correction: Check it out at 5.40 https://youtu.be/lRH_OZbRvZ8?t=347
Well spotted: was watching TOTO thinking how Lee Sklaar adapts to the setting of whichever band he is with yet still plays in his own style, and up pops "Birdland"!
 24. Looks like mine got lost at the Mailing House, so new one on its way.
