1. Loads of decos up today, including black 4 and 5 string acoustic basses, the 4 string Prog and the Uke Bass http://www.thomann.d...ic_bassdeko.htm http://www.thomann.d...bass_s_deko.htm
2.
A question for you guys. My band mates (two guitars) had just bought a couple of tiny guitars, i believe 1/2 size, Yamaha, they're tuned in A. The drummer has a cajon and the idea of having some fun with tiny instruments was born. This is really just for fun, when hanging out, not for gigs. I'm thinking about geting a Kahuna to take care of the bass parts but i know it's not loud enough with the rubber strings. So here's my question. Has anybody tried stringing one with regular nickel bass strings? I'm thinking about recycling one of my used sets (that still have a bit of life in them). Will it sound a bit louder, like an accoustic bass? Having their guitars tuned in A what do you think about fitting a BEAD and tune it a step back? Will it be too much tension and rip off the tailpiece? I know i could stick with the rubber strings and get a battery micro Roland but for the few times we'll be doing this i don't think it will worth the investment. Let me know your thoughts
I think the tension would start bowing the top and eventually the bridge would pull off. My HB UBass seems quite lightweight (although they are on Deco sale now for just £33!)
3. Many Thomann B Stock items are in fact customer returns "may show slight traces of use".
4. Yes, noticed they are even cheaper than last weekend's "Sale": the EC28 combo was then £239, now it's down to £199, the same price as earlier this year, when they had another big Eden sale!
5. So, it is legal to rip a Minnie Ripperton CD then?
6.
That may be your issue
How dare you say I have issues!
7.
You're not looking at one of those bongo sites by mistake, are you..?
I think they do sell Musicmans....
8. Last weekend I was hankering for a MarkBass CMD121P and bax-shop were at £466 (Thomann were £566) and Woodbrass £463. I thought they'd keep the price so held off and on Tuesday they had sold out and new stock was at £559. So good prices then but never used them and don't know anything about them. Seems they do free returns too.
9.
T'was asleep. I've seen it now, and the white progressive is still there. The price at £40 seems a bit high for a deko, as it's only £104 for the normal one. Usually it's about 1/3 of the full price? Has the 5 string acoustic black fretted bass been mentioned in this thread? http://www.thomann.d...bass_s_deko.htm
The Black one I got this week was £36, so just a little cheaper.
10. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_550_white_progressiv_deko.htm White 5 string progressive now up.
11. Thanks, what did I do wrong? I took off the "s" and changed the // to \\
12. Well at least he won't be short of a box to pack it in........
13. A favourite of mine, here's another by them: http:\\www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma8ABYwo1Ew&index=4&list=PLL__puWsATNz8EjGA25nHQEOb87n2bu5J Apparently Lowell George played on this track, you can hear his slide low in the mix. Maybe someone can embed this?
14.
Pino Palladino is actually allergic to wine.
and EUB's
15. Dr Hook, Focus and The Mothers of Invention are joining up to reprise the 70's hit "Sylvia's Mother"
16. On a similar but slightly off topic direction..last w/e there were 2 sellers (one in UK) doing the CMD121P combo for £460 new (Thomann were £560). A new 121 New York cab is £330 so that was a LMIII head effectively for £130!. I prevaricated and did not buy and they have gone up to £560 now , the Euro weakness must have affected the prices.
17.
I wouldn't necessarily agree with that - I have just this, an El Son piezo tweeter (apparently as used in some Trace p.a. cabs) and it works fine for me, just filling a bit of top end where the Barefaced Midget runs out. It isn't overly hissy either, it adds a nice click to string on fret if you like that sort of thing, but for me it just makes the fretless sound a little more acoustic, or natural-sounding, for want of a better expression. It has some built-in crossover (no idea what frequency, but probably quite high) and no attenuator, but the treble control on the amp controls it's range fine. Maybe I just got lucky!
The El Son Piezo tweeter is the same one MarkBass use too.
18. That was my experience, the natural finishes are a nicer looking wood and heavier, the painted finishes are Basswood and lighter.
19.
is it just me or is the Bass control 3rd along and the Treble furthest away? Do we know if it will run in passive mode without battery power?
To answer my own question....yes, it works in passive mode with the battery removed!
20.
I did think that sounded a little suspect when I wrote it The HB is intended for a friend of Mrs Cs who currently finds himself bassless... I would be happy to keep it though, it's really quite good
Ah yes, you did mention that but I thought it may be a euphemism!
21.
I've gone the other way... I've gone from a collection of 6 or 7 down to two... one fretted and one fretless. I've also ditched the pedals in favour of bass-cable-amp and I'm intending on cutting my rig down to a single cab. I'm on a mission to streamline my gear down to the best quality I can afford and the least superfluous crap as possible... I've even gone to a clip on tuner.
Cough, what about the Harley Benton then......?
22. Why don't you organise a local Bass Bash? That way fellow Bassists will bring their rigs and you can try them out....sorted.
23. After my experiences with the above, I thought I'd retell them for anybody else who might be thinking of buying one. I got my MarkBass Micromark 801 back in January this year and it's a great albeit expensive little combo which I use for home practice. It sits on the window ledge and allows me to practice sat at the Laptop as I store most rehearsal stuff digitally. It's only 45 watts but all the info on the MB site talks about if you plug it into a 8 ohm speaker you can get 60 watts from it. I tried it into my 15" MB NY RJ cab and it sounds good. So I thought I could use the Micromark for rehearsals on its own ( paired with the 15" cab would have been silly as I may as well have taken the TTE head as well) but found it struggled against drums but thought maybe with the Tweeter Box connected I'd get the full 60 watts and it would be a neat one almost one box solution. I asked the question of MarkBass, Marco by PM and importer Simon at MSL if the Tweeter was viable and no-one in the case of the first two answered, and Simon did not really give me any new knowledge in his reply or seem willing to let me try one. (Could not find one in any local shops to try). I was aware the Tweeter was the same one many disable in their combos, just housed in a separate Velcro box. So after wondering for months about the Tweeter Box I ordered it from Woodbrass at £60 delivered and it arrived last Thursday. It was clear from the first use it just added loads of toppiness and hiss and not being attenuable made it unviable, given there was no discernible power increase either. So it's going back today and it's cost me the postage to find out it does not really work. Hopefully anyone else who thinks about getting one will read this as there does not seem to be any reviews out there about it.
24. First bass I've had where the treble comes after the bass control if you look down at it when wearing it....
