1. To be honest I put the scented talc comment in for comedic effect..(who would have thought that from me?) Simple as in Simple Soap do an unscented talc which we have some of at home and I used that. I have a little phial of it I wear around my neck ...stop, I'm off on one again. I did think that if I was stopped by the OB they could be interested in a small tin of talc...!
 2.
Glenn was the singer in Heaven 17. Can defo sing. Doesn't try and sound like Bowie which could have been hideous.
Heaven 17 were mentioned in the first post in the Alternative Rock Factfile Thread....spooky!
 3. Err, back on Topic..... With the cessation from Touring of US Rockers "KISS", the man with the longest tongue in Rock, Gene Simonns is doing a new Radio 2 Rock Show. Kiss Tribute Bands have taken advantage of their exile, one of the most popular are from across the Channel and called "French Kiss".
 4. A little while ago I bought a ticket to see renowned Bassist and Producer Tony Visconti play on "The Man Who Sold the World" Live Tour at Bournemouth 02 Academy. Thought I'd be re-acquaint myself with the album as I lent it to someone 20? years ago and have not seen or heard it since. Just had a listen on YouTube and it's interesting! Had a slight panic when I realised the track listings were only 40 minutes but apparently they do a second set of Bowie favourites too . Band includes Glenn Gregory and Woody Woodmansey I shall be wallowing in nostalgia having seen Bowie twice on his Ziggy Stardust Tour back in 1972? at Newcastle City Hall and Sunderland Mecca Club I remembered quite few of the tracks on MWSTW and that I had a US Import Copy of the LP with those thick cardboard sleeves. Visconti will be playing a short scale Gibson EB3 or EBO I think so that should be fun.
 5.
I'll take note.
Is that a pecuniary note?
 6.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?
Sorry, no

What other brands are you familiar with?
Status, Da'darrio, Dunlop, Rotosound, Bass Centre, Thomastic, Picato, Ernie Balls

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
I have a Shuker Jazz, a Warwick Star Bass and a Squier Precision, all 5 stringers

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
Will be for practicing daily, rehearsing with others weekly and gigging weekly

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I currently use flats on two of my Basses so it will be good to compare the Elixirs with the Roundwounds on my Jazz Bass and the Flats on one of the others. As I have a range of Basses there will be opportunities to see if the Elixirs suit them all. In addition, with me being a 5 Stringer, the chance to check out the "low B" is a further opportunity I can offer.

Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting)
Here's a link to a Review today of something with Rubber Strings( bet Elixir don't do these)? 7.
My money (was) on H.S.B.C.
Good job it was not RBS as they got nearly Busted.
 8. Mini review on a Mini Bass here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/263753-harley-benton-fretted-ukele-bass/#entry2794542
 9. Here's the blurb from Thomann to start: "Harley Benton Kahuna CLU-Bass Ukulele Custom Line Kahuna Series Uke-Bass, Traveller-sized, spruce top, mahogany body, carved back, mahogany neck, C-shape, rosewood fingerboard, DOT-inlays, 20 frets, scale 534 mm, nut width 42,0 mm, rosewood bridge, black open gear tuners, B-Band u1.5T preamp." When buying a Deco from Thomann one's heart is always in one's mouth when unwrapping it as you know it will have some faults but thankfully apart from 2 tiny dints the only cosmetic faults are very minor and many less anal than me would not even notice them in a new instrument! There are 2 book-matched knots on the Spruce Top directly opposite the sound hole but you are not going to get AAAAA tops on an instrument of this price. Further point on the construction is that looking very carefully it appears to have a scarf joint on the headstock which is actually one piece of Mahogany for the neck with the headstock end cut off at an angle and re-attached the other way round (if this means nothing to you, like a Gibson headstock). The Tuners are like mini open geared Hipshots and pull on white rubbery strings, the E is 0.5 cm thick ! Getting into tune is a bit weird as the strings just stretch but eventually hit pitch which can be checked by the built in Tuner. The B-Band preamp is linked not to a cheap piezo but a " very special world-wide patented material that is very different from and has nothing to do with piezo electric films, transducers or pickups". Apparently these give you a more natural sound without the plasticky tone of a piezo. Right, how does it play and sound? I have big fingers and care has to be taken to fret correctly and accurately: there is a buzz around 5th fret I need to sort out, I think the slot has been filed a little low and needless to say there is no adjustment at the Rosewood Bridge! It comes with a Truss Rod key so I may take some relief out and see what happens. For playing it, some have suggested using talc on the hands which I have tried and certainly it smells nice. Solo it does sound quite full and double Bassy but I have yet to play it with others and see how it sits in the mix and also see how it copes with the dreaded Feedback ("Oi mate your little bass sounds sh*t)! I ordered a 1/2 size guitar case with it as well for an extra £6 so for £56 in total I have something to play at acoustic jams albeit stealthily plugged into my MarkBass Micromark 801. It will be quite fun turning up with what looks like a half sized Guitar in a case and a tiny square box and getting a decent Bass sound.
 10.
Thanks, helpful. I now see the situation is F.U.B.B.
I'm more an E.L.O or C.C.R man myself.
 11.
Is that Andy Powell's Argos or the competitor store Martin Turner's Argos and do they have a price war?
Well, Andy Powell threw down the sword, then Martin Turner conceded there was no easy road, they both went bust and Martin Turner arose again like a Phoenix.(Hope this helps?)
 12. [sub]I had the Roland and it struggled even in an acoustic instrument environment. I sold it on to The Rev here for use with an upright double bass, don't know if he still has it? I have seen people using a proper 150-200 watt combo powered by caravan batteries and hooked up through an inverter. You do need a trolley however...![/sub]
 13. Apparently the Guitar is still "breathing", which is ironic as I nearly choked upon reading the description....
 14.
Asking myself won't help when I'm baffled... (...or was there a comma missing from there somewhere..? )
15.
First trip to the US, the immigration officer opened up my passport, looked at it, looked at me and then told me it's wrong. What? He said that it couldn't be me coz the mayor of his city has the same name as me and he's black and I'm white!
You mean the mayor of his City was called "Jazzneck"?
 16.
Tbf **tiptoes** you could perhaps increase post-count in this thread by around 50% by explaining the ones that are too obscure :/
Or baffled readers could ask themselves.....?
 17.
Following their split in the 70's, 2 members of the Band Wishbone Ash set up their own new retail high street concept which has made them very wealthy.
That was Argos for those who found it too obscure...oh and a little milestone at 45k views too!
 18.
Blimey Nick - you were up early on a Sunday morning! Top job mate - look forward to seeing it. Now go back to bed!! Cheers.
That's not a collection , more a fairly large retailer!
 19. FWIW I ordered my Deco Uke late Monday night and it arrived on the Friday.
 20. Just to illustrate that the US Immigration Authorities are not the only ones who seem intransigent , I was talking to Lee Sklar earlier this year (as you do) after the Judith Owen Concert and asked him where the other member of "The Section" Waddy Wachtel was? He replied that despite having all the same paperwork as the other visiting US musicians to play on tour with Judith , he was stopped at Heathrow and turned back to the US. Not sure if he ever made it back to the UK
 21. Cast yourself back to 1971... a tall slender good-looking 16 year old chap with longish hair in the 6th Form at Walbottle Grammar School, near Newcastle listening to Wishbone Ash, The Groundhogs and others of that ilk in the 6th Form Centre between classes. Not his choice or records but still... Fast forward to now, 44 years later and browsing the Music on my laptop I find "Argus" by Wishbone Ash. Never seen it before! Click on it and memories flood back, am surprised by Argus. Nice harmony vocals, lovely Bass runs, just too much widdly diddly guitar.....

 23.
yup, thats what I was thinking too....
PM'd!
 24.
York5stringer I found talc helped alot and I also had strings bounce all over the fretboard, using a gentler attack improved things 100%.
I have great big fingers so need to ensure I'm fretting the notes correctly too. Just need to get some talc then. Does "perfumed" make any difference?
