1. The first release from newly merged Vanity Fair and Caravan and Green Day is the old favourite, "Hitchin a Ride" .
2. Mick Jagger bumped into Dave Edmunds recently. Mick said to Dave that "they'd always hoped to end up where he was some day".
3. Getting back to Nuts (!), I'll tell my often-told story of when I made my Bass with Jon Shuker. I asked him what were we doing about the nut and he asked me to grab the bone off the floor in his workshop that his dog (Ruby) was eating (a Doberman as I recall but very gentle). As it was not well chewed he selected an area that was smooth and told me to take it to the band saw and cut off an area 2-3" long and maybe 1/2" thick. I then cut, shaped and smoothed it into the Nut on my Bass which is sat next to me now. The rest, as they say, is history The postscript is when I went to work as an intern for another Luthier for 3 years he was using bought in plastic nuts. I nipped to Wilkos, bought some bones and showed him how to make them from bone. He reckoned from a £1 bone he could get 4 or 5 nuts out of it...
4.
You connect it with strawberry laces. The dial is the talent booster control. I always have mine set to "stun". (you already got the answer, so I felt I had to make up a different one to confuse you )
Oh, and you can only use it in New York otherwise it is "out of phase"....
5. Eric Carmen and Dolores O'Riorden both admit to being "thrown" when they first met Chuck Berry.
6. A Markbass multiamp will give you all those amp sounds and more.....
7.
So, Chuck Berry turned them down?
Looks like it.
8. My Sweet Lord! I think the relicing has probably knocked £300 off its value at least and that value will never ever appreciate like he suggests. Still there maybe somewhere out there who likes it and is prepared to pay silly money for it, if not his wife may be going on a budget break somewhere not very warm or sunny....
9. Talk Talk are reforming and looking at doing a collaboration with Blondie...
10.
Oops. Yes, that was rather lazy of me... Sorry about that...
To be fair lefties (apart from the acoustic Bass) are not that frequently displayed in the Deco area on Thomann but they do pop up infrequently.
11. If I auditioned for "The Motors" (80's band famous for Airport) I guess I may wear a tire
12.
Do left handed Dekos ever appear? I'm after a left handed neck as a donor to a project. Seems like a cheap way of getting a reasonable neck...
Just go back 11 or 12 posts....!
13.
Och, that disnae make sense?
Would that be walt disnae?
14. The Gypsy Kings and Leon Russell are looking at a collaboration but cannot think of a name for the new band.
15. We ( a scratch band of Guitar and Vox, me on Bass and another on Percussion) played a Dining Club on Saturday afternoon for an 80 year old's Birthday! Virtually everyone was over 70 apart from the daughter and her kids. The daughter mentioned she sang a little so joined us for a couple of numbers, one which was not on the setlist and I can't remember and then "Night and Day" .She had an American accent and explained she used to live in San Francisco and play in jazz clubs, just her and a Double Bassist . Enjoyed the gig and we got fed too: sometimes it's good to step outside your usual comfort zone and do something different. I used ireal pro to read the charts: the guitarist sent me the setlist, When I opened it on my phone (which has the software) it downloads all the charts into a new folder and you can play along with it for practice or just have the mute chart. You can change key with the press of a button and edit it if you wish. You can also adjust the speed for playback too. A great little ap. Set List was as follows (sorry some formatting still attached to titles) ] All The Things You Are - Jerome Kern . 16. "If I was" by the Staves, "Stay Gold" by First Aid Kit and an oldie from 1975 which I bought on vinyl at the time and have now replaced by CD: "Midnight on the Water" by The David Bromberg Band (no relation to Brian)
17.
I'm a big fan of the 5th Dimension.
Yes, I'm "Up, Up and Away" on laughing gas most of the time myself now....
18.
There is hope, from another d̶i̶r̶e̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ dimension... http://www.theguardi...EMCNEWEML6619I2 ̶
I'm impressed you stepped back in time over a month to bring this to the readership.......or did you? Are you in a parallel universe?
19. Years ago I bought a Line 6 Variax 5 String and set up my set list with all the different Bass Sounds marked and I changed them between songs. Did about 6 gigs and no-one came up to me saying "You really nailed that Bass Tone in xxx". I then swapped between a Jazz and a Stagg EUB and no-one even mentioned the sound, just "What was that weird bass you were playing?" They were much more interested in talking to and listening to our attractive singer....
20. Trading Standards have asked The 1910 Fruit Gum Company, US based songsters of "Simon Says" to ensure all their product is labelled with a sell-by date in future.
21. B Stocks are always around 7% cheaper than the perfects and are often returns and Decos can be any price depending on the damage? I've just had to exercise some self control to stop myself buying a Jazz. Pros: it's cheap and look at all those parts if it is knackered. Cons. I have a proper Jazz and don't play 4 strings... I think my money is still safe!
22.
And since it was backing vocals, possibly "na, na" too.
I expect the Wurzels could add a "Hay,hay" too?
23.
Nanette Newman turned down a backing singer session on the Stone's Let It Bleed recording, it was too late however and the sleeve notes were already at the printers. But she did contribute backing vocals to this one hit wonder band.
No, No, Nanette
24.
Hurricane Smith, one time Beatles recording engineer and Pink Floyd producer is also not available for comment. Clearly there were hurricanes.
I'm sure Thunderclap Newman would be happy to comment however?
