Leader of Counting Crows, Adam Duritz always counts the band members before each song whilst playing live. This can lead to delays of up to 20 minutes occasionally as experienced recently when the band were playing an outdoor festival and Bassist Millard Powers moved behind his Ampeg cabinet to avoid a rain shower.

Hints & Tips for auditioning vocalists
yorks5stringer replied to DrBike's topic in General Discussion
Good luck on getting two Singers to turn up on time and at the correct venue...! -
Dave brought a few down to a Bass Bash we held in Somerset and they are very nice basses. Great necks and punchy pickups and he personally sets every one up before sending it out.
Stairway to Heaven was originally titled "Stairway to Hebburn" in reference to the 6 seemingly impossible to scale steps leading from the pavement to Hebburn Working Mens Club. After playing a 2x45min covers set the fledgling Led Zeppelin took over 3 hours to move the 500W PA and Bonzo's drum kit up those steps into the Transit van parked at the top of said steps. Whilst Bonzo and Planty struggled with the gear a rather unhelpful Jimmy sat on the wall and wrote the main riffs and song structure based on his observations of his fellow band-members struggles. JPJ was in the chippy up the road and missed all the fun.
"Kashmir" was similarly named after a stop at an Indian Restaurant en route from a gig in the 70's. "When The Levis Break" is named after an accident to Robert Plant's jeans which he used to wear a size too small......
I remember some years ago Robert Elms on Radio London was always banging on about Joss Stone and what a great soul voice she had and often played tracks from her Soul Sessions cd. To be fair to her it probably was a good effort from one so young but if you've never heard some those TK Records / Chelsea Records of the 70s but i listened a lot to the musicians on that cd like Betty Wright, Benny Latimore, Timmy Thomas, Little Beaver etc in the 70s and when you've heard them with those similar arrangements then Ms Stone's work with them just sounds like a decent karaoke singer trying to recreate that Miami Sound. Pleasant MOR stuff but not soul.
Ironically Betty Wright has produced some of Joss Stones recent work.

From the second link I like the fact it has been "washed, ironed or dry cleaned" before selling!

Well just got back, venue only 10 mins by car away. Not as bad as I thought, there were a few under 50 in the audience and dancing too. £160 and a plate of sandwiches each, most of which I could not eat! Oh, and a glass of fizz so Happy New Year!

Markbass Cab Opinions and Speakon Question
yorks5stringer replied to Danthearsonist327's topic in Amps and Cabs
You can just daisy chain, so speakon out from amp to cab 1 which has 2 speakons anyway then speakon out to speakon on back of cab 2. -
Markbass Cab Opinions and Speakon Question
yorks5stringer replied to Danthearsonist327's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had a LMII with a T 210 and a T115. Sold the T115 as did not need the extra presence and still had a punchy lightweight rig. Mind I did not play Metal...! -
I need more gigs, so I made a video.
Cheers, all. That was a tribute to Bobby Robson - great fun. Full story here. Yep - that's Ray! Bald guitarist is my best pal and partner in musical crime. Seem to recognise Ray Laidlaw in there from Lindisfarne Christmas Shows, many, many, many moons ago! Now who was that bald guitarist...? Some great gigs by you there and Newcastle City Hall still looks canny. -
Growing up in Paris as teenagers, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel" de Homem-Christo liked to play with Motorcycle Helmets and Superglue and were regularly in and out of A&E getting them removed from their heads. After a particularly busy day in A&E over Christmas 2001, the 2 erstwhile musicians tuned up with helmets firmly glued to their heads only to be told "F*** Off you daft punks"! The rest, as they say, is history.

Help me indentify the worst bass of all time
yorks5stringer replied to Mylkinut's topic in Bass Guitars
It looks like a very early (and very rare) POS! I'm sure you will be fending off offers by PM once word gets out that you have this in your possession. A quick scan seems to indicate only 2 functioning Tuners which may account for some of your negativity towards this Bass Icon? As I am unable to offer anything more positive, I did notice a decent job on your floorboards however! Basses like this do spoil you for what is out there at remarkably little extra cost and 50 times better. A suitably vague description on eBay ( "might be Japanese, found under my 'Uncles' bed") should see you recoup your initial outlay.... -
That would work a lot better if said in a southern drawl, like pro~~~~~paaaaaayyyyne Rodney Terence Argent is an English rock musician and a founding member of the 1960s English rock group the Zombies and the 1970s band Argent. Their most famous song being "God Gave Rock & Roll To You" of course which was played live on The Old Grey Whistle Test where the bassist wore dungarees and moved the bass in a circular motion in time with Rod Argent on order to appear as cheesy as possible.
(Sotto Voce) That fact almost sounds true...so what the hell is it doing in this thread? If you post true facts the thread will lose all credibility.

We've got 3 sets (30 mins x 2 , then a 60 mins) for NYE at a local Boutique Hotel .(Translated that means us playing at low volumes, crammed into a corner whist the guests eat their NYE Meal)! Oh, we do get sandwiches. I'll amuse you with the unedited Set Lists from the Bandleader who has a fanatical obsession with BPM and Medleys! As you can see the set was carefully chosen to fit in with the New Year theme.... This will probably be our last gig I guess, as our guitar has been depped out due to work issues and although he will play NYE, he is not doing any more and getting a dep to play this stuff has proved difficult.
