1. Be aware, as I bought one of their music stands a while ago, that although they have a good warranty, when they break they will not have any more in stock and you just get your money back. Not an issue but you then have to source a new stand!
2. [sub]No Doubt expect their next album release to be a Chart-Topper.[/sub]
3. Peckham Band "Budgie" are re-releasing their recording of "Mirrorr, Mirror"
4. Harry Nilsson is well known for the album "Nilsson Schmilsson". Other albums he recorded that did not see the light of day however were "Nilsson Stiltson"( with Tool) "Nilsson Fulsom"( a live prison recording) and "Nilsson Gilson"(with Gilson Lavis from Squeeze on drums).
5. Seasick Steve travels to all his Tour dates by train. However in an effort to cure himself, he is actually rowing across the Atlantic to his USA dates. This is not going too well as due to his metal Dobro confusing the compass and his percussive rowing action he is going around in circles and is currently 400 miles off the Azores. His new collaboration with Boxcar Willy (working title Steve's-Willy) features "Beat It" and "The Boat that I Row"
6. Chairmen of The Board did in fact visit Chesterfield along with Doncaster Furniture Stores on their last Tour . Their new release is available at all DFS Stores and it's half price until Sunday.
7. Hendrix's Band of Gypsies never toured to Chesterfield. They did release an EP with "Go Now", "Peg" and "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" and "Ironic" on it. This was given away last weekend as the free CD with The Sunday Mail.
8. David Gedge was a member of bands "Pyrex", "Spa/Track Day Experience", and "John Lewis Voucher " before he hit the big time with The Wedding Present.
9. If you need more volume than these put out you must be in a very loud band? Have you got your gain and master volume set correctly? If so, just DI into the PA for more Bass in the band mix.
10. Val Doonican was actually a founder member of The Cardigans. However he left as the rest of the Band felt "Paddy McGinty's Goat" was not a single release.
11.
The members of Joy Division were brought together by a shared love of arithmetic. Following the death of Ian Curtis, the remaining members found it therapeutic to re-arrange their book and LP shelves alphabetically, and drew on these experiences when naming the continuation band.
Not to be confused with Martin Fry's Band however?
12.
A Flock Of Seagulls were banned from several venues in the 80s for stealing popcorn from the audience.
Hot Chip were formed by an innovative chip shop chain as they found that seagulls would actually only eat cooler chips.
13. There's always been a link between football and music, George Best for instance comes to mind. However a little known fact is that long before the current interest in Soccer in the USA, back in the 1960's Everton Centre Forward Dixie Dean had a secret meeting with American entrepreneurs to set up a fledgling League. Passing through JFK Airport in New York from an evening flight, he got lost and recognising "The Band" introduced himself as "Dixie". The Band offered to drive him to the meeting ...and the rest, as they say, is history.
14.
Ha ha, I think 20,000 is easily achievable. Especially if you have Thursday off work and get stuck in (smileys don't work on this iPad but it's the thought that counts)
Work? I don't have time to work! Speaking of which, antipodean band "Men at Work" were named after the Jean Michelle Jarre track "Oxymoron". Their first hit was "Sledgehammer"
15.
Contrary to popular belief, famous bass-ace york5stringer does actually have other things going on in his life other than contributing to this thread
I can only agree with the bolded statement. Actually( and this is the truth) this thread is just a ruse by Ped to drive traffic onto the site and thus increase advertising revenue...or maybe not. Do you think 20,000 views by Christmas is unrealistic?
16. Nigel Farage was on Desert Island Discs on Friday. His choices were interesting: "Final Countdown" by Europe, "Immigrant Song" by Zeps, "Young Gifted and Black" by Bob and Marcia, "The Onion Song" by Marvin and Tammi, "Deportees" by Woody Guthrie, "Illegal Alien " by Genesis, "Waving Flags" by British Sea Power and "Speak English or Die" by Stormtroopers of Death.
17. Good that Scott has taken time out to reply personally and with good grace and humour too! Now go and spend some time with your family!
18. Unknown Singer-songwriter John Brown changed his name to Jackson Browne and is now one of the few rock stars who has two surnames as his full name.
19. The first signing on the Beatles Record label Apple was "Bad Finger". Pete Ham damaged his finger in-between cider apple crates whilst picking apples as a teenager. Ironically Bulmers used Bad Finger's song "Come and Get It" as the music on one of their Strongbow Cider TV ads in the 70's.
20. Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher had an huge impact on the music industry bringing to a premature end the careers of Lee (Working down a Coal Mine) Dorsey and Robert (Shipbuilding) Wyatt. She also ended the career of The Flying Pickets but Birmingham Band UB40 have gone from strength to strength.
21.
Any idea when April Wine might be touring?
No, but Amy Winehouse was brought up in High Barnett
