1. Following the departure of several key members, The Waterboys held lengthy auditions for replacements. Fish, The Captain ( minus Tenille), Lieutenant Pigeon and Sandy Shaw were all contenders along with Brian Ferry and River Phoenix. Simon Le Bon did not make the shortlist however. Rickie Fataar (Beach Boys) and Roger Waters thought they had got the gig but in the end the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section triumphed and the first single from the new line up was "Islands in the Stream" .
2.
I believe that Skrewdriver are involved in this too?
Not on this recording but I heard they may be doing "Twist and Shout" as a seperate project. I expect Men at Work will crop up too...
3.
In 2007 I had a warning for using the word 'tits' on TB. This wasn't the main reason for opening BC but it was one of them! Funnily enough, BC's forbear 'Bassworld' was created off the back of a thread on Talkbass called 'British Bassists' or something. We thought "We should have our own forum". I rarely visit any more but I've always found it a friendly and informative forum. ped
Ah yes, the" Hot Girls in the Audience" Photo thread? The kudos seemed to be in having many photogenic girls draped around the Bassist, to which other posters would variously rate for "hotness". Can't think why it did not catch on here....
4. Following the merger to form a supergroup by Florence Welch and Machine Head, now called Florence and the Machine Head, they have decided to merge with a Folk Supergroup and have become Florence and the BellowMachine Head. A new release of the AWB's "Pick Up the Pieces coupled with "Work to Do" RAP style is expected in the New Year now that MC Hammer and NIne Inch Nails have dissolved their partnership and Chaka Demus and Pliars have also split releasing Pliars to team up with MC Hammer. MC Hammer and Pliars will be appearing at Home Depots across the USA in March 2015.
5. Two members of the Boomtown Rats have just left the band citing "irreconcilable philosophical differences". They have joined the Happy Mondays. Members of disbanded groups Heads, Hands and Feet and Little Feet have joined new Folk Super group BelllowHead. Other provisional names for the new band such as Knees, Toes, Neck, Shoulders, Chest, Stomach, Back and Arse were all rejected. It has been revealed "Crazy" Seal and "Crazy" Ce-Lo Green are actually one and the same person! Apparently as Seal's record sales slumped he reinvented himself as Ce-Lo. His double header gigs with his alter ego are made less complicated by him using the same lyrics for both sets with just different song structures. The truth was spotted by eagle-eyed yanks who realised you never saw them both on stage together. Janet Jackson is reportedly following this story closely.
6. All members of the New Orleans funksters The Meters are in fact only 39.37 inches tall. Rumours of forming a super group with Gentle Giant have been ruled out.
7. YellowJackets member and Bassist Jimmy Haslip was the original Wichita Lineman, as sung by Glen Campbell
8.
Folks I offer a most sincere apology if I have offended anyone or belittled their contribution to Basschat - that was never my intention. If you look through my responses you will hopefully see that I do also have a sense of humour and that I have not been on the warpath with a complaint - consider it more a request that the fee structure is made more explicit. I have had my knuckles rapped for trying to sneak in a sale - rightly so but I am a chancer! - and I will now request that this topic be closed. Whether I pay the insertion fees will remain a story for another day! Thank you for the responses and the odd touches of humour. Regards, David PS: anyone got a Cort B4 fretless going for £250?
No apology needed but I notice you haven't changed the Post title as suggested...!
9. It's really annoying and I've had it happen a few times. Never actually happened on the night ,as I always used to ring earlier in the week to check all was well..and sometimes it wasn't!
10. Could the OP please change the title of this thread to "I can't believe you charge so little to post For sale ads" please ? Also worth mentioning on some forums they don't let newbies sell items until they have made meaningful contributions to at least 30 topics. That would leave me struggling...!
11. Little Richard is actually 6 feet tall and only changed his name to Richard when he was warned that he would never work if he kept the foreshortened version.

13. The Supreme's release "Up the Ladder to the Roof" was only a hit in the USA as UK Building Regulations forbid such access unless there is an alternative fire-proofed exit.
14. Genial slap-heads "Right Said Fred" abandoned their debut tour before a date was completed as setting out for the first date they just went round in circles Raven-haired Blues lady Bonnie Raitt cut her teeth on Scottish Blues and Soul scene sessions where her low charges kept her in demand
15. UKIP leader Nigel Farage is a big fan of 70's band The Eurthymics. He however is not so keen on the band formed from members of Johnny hates Jazz and Foreigner.
16. 30 years after their split, 60's popsters Edison Lighthouse reformed with members of the original band and members from Family. This new band was short lived as new fans could not get used to the 10 second silences every other 10 seconds throughout their CD's.
17. Founder members of The Byrds, The Housemartins always used to migrate to the Beautiful South every winter.
18. Shrinking violet Bassist Jeff Brown changed his name to Jeff Berlin as he felt with a noticeable name he stood more of a chance of making a public impact. He is actually particularly busy at the moment due to the Anniversary of Pink Floyd's The Wall being commemorated.
19. Genial gardener Alan Titchmarsh failed an audition for Guns N Roses despite claiming to know all the lyrics for "I can hear the grass grow".
20. Following a new career on Strictly Come Dancing for Frankie, the Saturdays have announced they are to split. The other girls will be joining the Happy Mondays now that singer Shaun Rider has left them to pursue his Truck Rental and Charity Shop businesses.
21. US Fishery Protection and Coastguard Officials have warned never to eat Blue Oyster Cults due to poisonous algae. Both Poundland and Poundstretcher gave a cautious thumbs up to the endorsement Jingle recently performed by Genesis. However a budget-shop insider did say " we much prefer that fat bald guy singer to the tall one who wears too much expensive makeup, as he better meets our demographic" Paul McCartney has now conceded and apologised that in the song "The Long and Winding Road" he did omit to mention the pavement and the garden path.
22. 60's female rock icon Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane and Starship has announced she no longer washes her hair with shampoo. She explained, " after 2 months the hair's natural oils just take over".
23. Following the release by Queen of "I Want to Break Free", blues-rockers Free were initially non-plussed and released "All Right Now". However after they split soon after they reformed as the Sex Pistols and reposted with the sardonic "God Save the Queen". Archie Bell and the Drells' hit "Sugar Sugar" was inspired by watching box sets of The Apprentice. US Band NRBar-BQ were also inspired by Lord Sugar's catch phrase. Redwedger Billy Bragg has been forced to apologise to Dorset village Little Midden (pop. 28) after he drove through there on Thursday last without cheerily waving to the population. He explained "Knew England" was a metaphor and he did not really know all the population of England. Scottish sibling duo The Proclaimers have announced " Hear Ye, hear Ye, Hear Ye. On this day of Thursday November the 13th , in the year 2014 in the reign of Elizabeth, Queen of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland we would like to say we are going for a long walk, maybe as much as 500 miles. God Save The Queen"
24.
My walk-to-gig-rig. Looks great, sounds great, and I can happily walk a couple of miles with bass on back, cab in left hand, head in right. Handles are doing fine
Are you a Shakespearian bassist?
