1. Maybe you should take the 3 pointed star off your Merc then...I reckon it will sell in 5 minutes!
2. I have a small one that an electric drill fits into like this: http://www2.westfalia.net/shops/tools/power_tool/drills/drill_accessories/75664-bohr_und_fr_sst_nder_mit_sechskant_stahls_ule.htm?gclid=CLDXhKrIicECFenHtAodJAMA7A&art_nr=829739 Could bring it to the SW Bash if you want?
3. I used "hillbilly" covers at one stage: the box it came in upturned with the a roll of gaffa stuck on the edges. It did the job but looked crap ( which as others have said, can be an advantage)
4. A Warwick Star Bass is still available, double cutaway and 32" scale as a 4 string. Visit the Warwick Lounge for more photos or look to the left of this post....(actually mine's a 5)
5. Had a VM 5 Jazz too but it was the natural one and weighed a ton so moved it on. Upon reflection I should have got a coloured one which I now have but as a VM Precision 5! Nice looking Jazz mind!
6. She's doing a load of dates over here early next year with her ace US studio band: Lee Sklar, Waddy Wachtel and Russ Kunkel. I'm going to see her in Totnes on March 7th! She's Mrs Harry Shearer for those who need to know these things....
7. Once owned by the bassist with [s]The White Stripes[/s]..... ?
8. Once owned by the Bassist with "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown" perhaps?
9. http://kaliumstrings.com/home.html Not sure about a .175 gauge mind....!
10. Sounds like you've handled it very professionally and you are well-rid.
11. Could be worth looking at photos of Rikkers and Sadowsky basses for where they make their cavities...?
12.
Its a great price, I sold mine a few months ago for around £300. These are great instruments. Really aggressive tone that can break through the mix really well. As its well known and the major selling point, the G and Ls are made by Leo Fender. And personally I think they're rival them very well. Put them up against a MIM Fender Jazz deluxe and you get a similar tone. Maybe the G and L is a bit superior with the great tapping and slapping tones. The build quality is great as well. On the contrary of some other comments on this thread, the body is very thick and the neck can be quite bulky if you're buying a five string version. However I do agree in the sense that the fretboard is a bit Squier-esque. But if you enjoy that kind of basic playability which I enjoyed then by all means its the bass for you.
I think Leo had been dead for some time (1991) before the Indonesian ones came along! I believe the pickups are the same as the US ones.
13.
Not sure about family commitments that weekend but if I'm free I could bring the Basschat 12" cabs along http://basschat.co.u...b-design-diary/ and do a talk about designing bass cabs.
I'd be interested in that!
14. Not been much input to this thread (!) so I did a quick look at the tuners on all the Jaquar basses and from the photos they all look the same..however I am prepared to be corrected on this! In which case they should be available from any Fender Dealer? If not there are a number of specialised dealers in the USA who might have one, try a google search.
15.
Hi, Looking at some of the gear you guys play I doubt I am up to your standards but would be interesting to meet up, I could probably only do 12th October though depending on family lol Cheers Steve
You never heard the saying "All the gear, no idea"?!
16. I'd be up for it, it's just up the [s]Street[/s] road from me, in fact I drove through it today on my way to Glastonbury (is that too much info?) Oh, either date would be OK for me.
17. Maybe I shouldn't say this but the guy selling it is clearly Sting so I guess it will shoot up in value now.....( the wig and Barnsley address are just to put gear junkies off the scent)
18. Checked all 4 XLR plugs and one of the the female ends had a detached earth wire which maybe could have been intermittently shorting onto a live one? Anyway now all sorted. Thanks
19.
So I'm not the only borderline OCD regarding rig asthetics
I think you mean CDO..?
20.
Ta, the reason i thought about doing the middle is because that's where the pickup wires are soldered onto. it's also got one of these copper(?) strips from the bridge to the bridge pickup..
That's to earth it, saves making a hole in the Bass to put an earth wire from the bridge forward...!
21. I bought a MB TTE 500 head and when it arrived realised it overhung my MB210T cab..had to go out and get a MB RJ 115 cab to put it on!
