NBD- Squier Vintage Modified V Precision in Olympic White

They're sending me a new one with no quibbles.... -
Thank you to Casapete and Paul 5 for your kind offers of help. I've decided not to buy the bass because, nice as it is, it would need considerable time and expense to re-configure the electrics to what I'd want. Plenty more fish in the sea... Steve
Yes, Hull has quite fishing heritage....!

I was 14 in 1968 and I remember the school disco playing "Reach out and I'll be There". Just before the chorus there's a little Bass run after the words "Reach Out" and before " I'll be there" and I thought I want to play that instrument. To this day I hardly listen to lyrics - I zone into the bass lines. In fact it took me till Tuesday this week to realise the Beatles were singing "Got a good reason" on Day Tripper and not "God is the reason" !! I kid yee not!!

You going for the Ernie Ball "Roasted" neck treatment? If so you may have to use a lower flame.....!

Options for a different feel for acoustic gig

What about getting a U Bass, that should cause you to rethink what you play...! -
Remember now when I was back up int'Yorkshire..we played a Wedding at a Wedding venue near Halifax. As we finished 4 merry guests came up to us and asked if they could use our instruments. I asked the guy who wanted to play my Bass if I could have his car keys. He asked why, I explained if he damaged my gear I would need to have a surety for compensation. He obviously thought I was being arsey ( which I was a bit!) and said forget it. As we packed away one of the other guests told us that was the drummer and bassist from Embrace and their mates...!
do you think mark bass or someone could be convinced to put a switch on their amps to disengage the EQ and put a hard limiter on so that amps used this way wouldn't be damaged at all? the idiot switch....
Or maybe even a Tuner mute...?!
Nothing I would have thought, Isn't that what it's designed to do? To be uber lightweight and strong and work under constant stress... otherwise you wouldn't be able to use it for things like F1 cars, Tour de France bikes and so on. You can't have a F1 car where you drive it far enough and the road vibrations cause it to develop all sorts of resonant frequencies in it's suspension armature....
They were saying on the GP at the w/e F1 cars now have vibration sensors and if they pass a certain level they have to retire the car/change the tyres. Something to do with the suspension components and in order to get them light/strong there is a trade off and they can just shake to bits due to tyre degradation

Yamaha neck, but I think the body is something else

Sold for £77, is that good for a Dearmond? Possibly a case of false description if you thought you were buying a Yammy? -
I've said this before on a similar thread but I heard someone at NAMM ( on line) pronounce it "Bass" as in the fish or Alfie....
-
Fender Relic? He probably thought it was just an old beat up Bass....

Well they've offered me a 15 euro discount, given there is a B stock one of these for sale at £30 less on their site that's not very generous. Have suggested they send me a new one that's not damaged and I'll happily pay full price! -

Don't apologise, I think how they operate does not really put the customer first. Will be interested how they deal with me this time as I'm sure I'll be on their bolshy customer list from the last 2 Basses..... -

Yes, but there's always that golden period before you've put the first ding in it: mine lasted about 20 mins until I noticed the faults. I don't mind to much damaging a Bass in action, that's life, but it annoys me to get yet another one pre-damaged......after all it's not a " road worn " series! -
Ah, just keep it. The relic process has begun - and anyway now you don't have to worry about putting the first ding in it... Edit: I had the oly white VM Jazz V for a while and thought it was very playable. Sounded great and good build quality, too.
Yes, where's the sander....?! -
Decided I'd try a Squier Precision V so this arrived today. Nice neck on it, no sharp or uneven frets, rich golden colour and the OW finish looks good apart from 2 faults in the clear coat just where I can see them on the belly bout( see below). Swapped out the strings for some BC Flats, tweaked the truss road, dropped the saddles and it sounds really good. As it's a Basswood body it's quite lightweight and the neck want to touch the floor, so using a Mono wide strap. However did a quick price comparison and against my better judgement went with Thomann, despite having my last 2 Basses from them delivered damaged. Everything looked OK and it did not appear to have been dropped when it arrived so swapped out strings, adjusted the action then noticed a small clear coat dimple on the top bout and close to it, a further mark under the clear coat too. Will now have to play the merry dance with Thomann: Me " There some manufacturing faults on this Bass, see the photos". Them : "it looks fine to us". Me " I'd like a replacement that is perfect please" Them: "Send it back, we'll decide if it's faulty". Me: "I'm telling you it's faulty...etc etc. Should have gone with a UK Supplier who are almost the same price....Has literally taken the gloss off it...!
