1. God is a chancer....? No wonder we are being bombarded with Rocks from other galaxies.....
2. So, its being sold by Tesco Outlet: that means it must have been in stock at Tesco at some time? Next time I'm in there, I'll see what aisle the high end Basses are, I assume they do a value version as well? Seriously, if I was going to hack an ID for selling a ficticious bass, I don't think I'd use a Supermarket outlet to establish my bona fides.... PS I reported this earlier today.
3. Re the global recession...it must be bad if God is starting to make staff redundant?
4. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Squier-Vintage-Modified-5-String-Jazz-Bass-/181073539635?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a28d2f233 It's been well played and damaged, collection only and they want the new Shop price for it.....
5. This needs to go in the Basses for sale section, sure a mod will move it!
6. Can I add myself to the tiny minority then? A Bass I sold a couple of weeks ago on here as damaged and at a knock down price has been relisted here and eBay for nearly 20% more with nothing done to it, and charging £20 for postage which costs £7.40! Then there's the PA I sold a couple of years ago, now up for 20% more than I sold back then.
7. I've just joined the Zoot Dukes http://www.zootdukes.co.uk/ who have just reformed but the current Guitarist is moving onto pastures new. We are a Jump Jive Party Band (there's some Ska and Reggae mixed in) with 2 lead vocalists ( M/F) who play keys and various Brass too. We have a number of gigs already booked for this year with a Wedding and a Beer Festival alongside some Pub gigs also. We play some nice originals written by the Band Leader in the style of the genre and are looking for someone who can also interpret the originals where necessary, rather than slavishly copy. Quiffs not essential....!
8. I was wondering if this is actually owned by a fellow Basschatter, "... in Somerset."...?
9.
Is that with insurance? I find Interparcel as cheap as that, until you put the insurance on.
Yes, although only for £100 value.
10. Just bought a J Retro from Phil, expertly and securely packed and sent by Recorded Delivery too! Great clear comms and I'd recommend him to anyone else, either as a Buyer or Seller.
11. I like the way you can nail it....the bottom horn I mean!
12.
Alarm tape, the sort you used to see on shop windows, under the wallpaper makes a good, invisible FM aerial.
Do you turn the room around then if it goes off slightly off tune?
13. I think this thread has very slowly gone off -topic, any other uses for Copper Foil (with conductive adhesive , obviously!)
14.
Wilkos..? Don't know that one!
Wilkinsons to those used to shopping at Selfridges...
15. Thanks for all the interest and input........(sneaks out side door and wipes brow!)
16. Copper foil can be done in 5 mins, graphite paint has to dry and possibly have another coat.....
17. Job done! Measured it all up and the bridge is now 1/2" further back which allows the contact point on the D string saddle to be exactly on 34". Needless to say intonation now spot on too!
18. It was £60 plus postage new, once the bridge is straight and set correctly I'm sure it will be fine!
19.
So what's the distance from the nut to the 12th fret?
17" and 16.75" to the contact point on the saddles in the bridge! Reckon it needs to go back 1/4" and its not straight too!
20. Brand new bass with brand new strings and the action is quite low......!
21. 33.75" does not give me enough adjustment with the saddles ( they are right back) to get the intonation correct. I know you cannot get it totally spot on....
22. Just got a new very cheap Bass and it sounds out of tune (sharp) as you get higher up the neck. Winding the saddles back as far as they will go towards the back edge of the body still does not make the open string and octave come up the same on the Tuner, on any string ( it's 5'er) although it reduces the disparity. Measuring from the nut to the middle of the contact point of the D saddle, I'm on 33 and 3/4 of an inch ( even with the saddles screwed right back). My immediate thought is the bridge is not correctly sited and from looking under it when I first unpacked the bass ( it was loose) there is no reason not to move it back the errant 1/4 ". Before I drill new holes ( will obviously mark it up and check parallels etc) is there anything I may have missed? Any thoughts would be useful please as I don't want to damage the shiny new finish with holes if I've missed something obvious !
