1.
THE FLAWED MERITOCRACY THEORY I have to say despite a somewhat odd website, I rather agreed with the above article.
I'm more a fan of the Big Bang Theory......
2. Yes, but he knows what a "Paul" Guitar is mind...
3. Just thought I'd pop in: see the old thread is still limping along.......I was rather hoping the apocalypse on Friday would have killed it off!
4. Here's his new opus, apart from a misplaced comma, nothing too controversial save some mis-matched, pickups! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/J-Bass-a-dual-tone-pickup-type-J-bass-in-metalic-blue-/190760060877?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2c6a2f87cd
5. Good price on these but not sure I buy the explanation. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fleabass-Flea-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Unfinished-Matte-White-Primer-/400368870807?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item5d37d82597 More likely they were left over from the Damien Hirst versions or the manufacturer decided to sell them off cheap...if they were so "successful" why a run-out special?
6.
I imagine you've contacted Aria already?
I had an Aria 5 String Jazz and the balance pot broke: they sent me another one FOC!
7. This may seem a silly question but am a bit confused with said Bass. All the photos of Jazz Basses show 2 large and 1 small knob in that order so I'm assuming Volume 1, Volume 2 and Tone? Mine has 3 round chrome knurled knobs but seem to be in the reverse order: Tone, V1 and V2. The obvious thing is to tap the poles and turn the knobs and work out what is what, but that does not seem to be consistent with what I'm doing to the knobs...sometimes both pickups click even though one volume is off. Anyone like to give me their interpretation of what the controls actually do please?
8. Come on guys, remember it's Christmas....goodwill to all men and women!
9.
Anyone who starts a strong 10 paragraph post is gong to get plenty of replies. There's a section in off topic about Rants. If you go off on one there's bound to people who disagree. The more info you put in a post, the more you leave out. The best posts are ones that have been carefully considered before anyone starts typing. Otherwise, as been said, you write stuff, delete stuff, edit stuff, then give up and delete everything and bring nothing to the table. We could have all agreed 100% with the OP and given him and ourselves a nice warm fluffy Christmas feeling inside. But we didn't. I don't think anyone has been nasty about it though, have they?
If the world was not going to end tomorrow i would have written a very nasty post, but somehow it all seems a but futile now...
10. WTBWITW I'm stuggling to see how this topic has got to 130 posts!
11. Confused why he should advertise on here for a Bassplayer? A gentle stroll through his various websites would seem to indicate the ideal Bassplayer for his band, and with all the correct gear, is looking at himself in the mirror every morning. No mention of what this band is called and where they are gigging mind....
12. [sub]Just got a VM Squier Jazz 5 string today which is way better than the VM 4 String I got.....from you in 2011 Marcus! [/sub] [sub]Not blaming you BTW, but they seem to have tweaked the controls and it sounds quite a bit more ballsy. Still the new owner of the VM77 is happy too so that's the beauty of Basschat![/sub]
13.
I wish you'd stop saying this! I'd like not to take it personally, but i *do* have all the gear, and I really *do* have no idea! It's depressing to be reminded of this....
I bet I have "no idea" more than you and do you know I used to play in a band with a singer, drummer and guitar too...?
14. Never has the phrase "All the gear and no idea" been more apt.
15. Just bought a VM 5 String Squier from Si. Exactly as described and no issues. Decent comms and the added bonus of some sinister "youth clothing" as padding for the inner box. I've always wanted a Hoodie! My only issue being none of it fitted me, so to off to the clothes bank with it! Hopefully for future purchasers of his items, there will be a space provided to specify waist and chest sizes....?
16. If I played 4 stringers I'd have it like a shot! I can't believe this price for a new G&L they are all at least £200 more. Have a bargain bump on me!
17. As the stuff is in the public domain, they have just copied it and are selling it on. Cheeky!
18. Unless you are improvising a lot I would have thought any set will become "overfamiliar" if you are gigging frequently. I'd jump at such a chance!
19.
But the answers here will be unbiased I see you have the Stagg in violin burst whats it like?
Not being an experienced Upright Bassist, it was OK but it took me a little while to get used to the physicality of it. ( which is much less than on a DB it should be said)! I think the comments regarding having some lessons are useful: it is easy to get into bad habits. As I have said on here before, a good Double Bassist can make it sound really good, and like a DB, an average Bass player can make it sound different to an electric bass but not like a Double Bass. For gigging the Stagg Stand is useful. Quite a few people have put different strings on and that helps too, there are numerous threads in the [s]EUB and Double Bass [/s]" Jazz " lounge
20. A job for Lex Luthite perhaps? A good way to clamp shapes that don't have straight sides is to use the pieces you cut it out of. I know you don't have them but it may help in figuring a way to do it.
21. Hope a gust of wind does not blow it off the gate and damage it....!
