1.
Agreed, caught a nasty infection from a mic once, made the mistake of using a rehearsal room supplied mic.
Where did you put it...?
2.
It was good to see you there Rex, shame we never saw the Les Paul!
Would that be "The Paul"?
3. I like the way he says " the neck has a nice action". Given the variables are the neck, the body and the bridge he only has 1 aspect covered.
4. Thanks to all who attended and to John (oldslapper) for being "there" for me.... Just picking up on the earlier post bash comments.. agreed, you can never have too many Jazz Basses! Oh, and big thanks to Jo Burt who came along, gave an entertaining talk and stayed and chatted with most of those present ( if not all) about their Basses. Next year I'll see about getting Jeff Berlin...! There will be more photos posted in the fullness of time I believe?
5.
Funny cos i go through Shrewton a lot and rarely see any sign of life. Gigging tonight in Bournemouth on a late one and then got signed off by Mrs BottomE for tomorrows BassBash
My wife is from Shrewton and the the biggest excitement they had recently was the local Co-op doing a refurb....!
6. Due to some optimism regarding the post to down here, the promised Basschat Heirlooms for the first 10 through the door will not hit Dorset till at least Monday. Apologies and I hope that will not stop people attending!
7. So rising to the challenge, is it fingers or picks on NYE?
8. Bassgear used to be based in Harrogate, oop north....! Big spread in this months BGM about them too....
9. I'm not convinced he properly understands the relationship between bridge, neck and nut ( or zero fret as he used to refer to it). I was taught to adjust the relief in the neck (via truss-rod) if minor adjustments of the saddle height did not do the trick. His go-to method seems to be carve great lumps out of the nut and then adjust the rest to compensate. It seems every guitar or bass he "improves" ( his words!) has an action the height of his hyperbole....
10. Update re the Venue. They will be doing Sunday Lunches and the " normal" type of pub food "Scampi", "sandwiches" etc so do please support them as we are getting the venue F.O.C. There will be a collection jar too, it would be good if everyone could make a contribution to either/and support a Charity of Jo Burt's choice or the pub, who like many licensed venues at the moment finding things tough! Also the first 10 Basschatters through the door will be getting some Basschat "[s]crap" [/s]memorabilia!
11. Now we have no aircraft carriers I can see a gap in the market that could be filled quite cheaply.....
12. Anyone seen/played these before and any opinions? 13. Wrong pickups and why would anyone sell a genuine Fender for £150?
14. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-jazz-bass-modern-player/112798554?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=network&utm_term=banner&utm_content=criteo-national&utm_campaign=criteo#gallery-item-full-2 Trouble is don't think it is.....!
15. The original ad attempted to mislead, the revised ones are economical with the truth. He's making out he did not know it's origins yet it is100% clear that it is a far east copy ordered through tradetang or similar. Got no problems about copies as long as people are open about it and state "copy". If you look at the Gumtree Jazz Bass thread that guy is still maintaining it is an original Fender Bass and that's what gets a lot of us annoyed as some poor sap may buy it as genuine.
16.
I was asking about york5stringer's 4 string jazz sorry! I can't get along with 5 strings unfortunately.
It's Black, very Black, the Blackest Black you've ever seen...nice white pearloid scratchplate mind....!
17.
Ok chaps, Jo Burt ex Sabbath, Queen, Freddie Mercury and others, will be coming to the bash. He's a nice chap and has some great road trip stories. I thought, if people were interested, Jo might have 20 mins to share some stories and answer any questions any if us have about working with some Divas! I've asked him to bring along a bass or two that had some "stories". John
Good Work John!! I am sure we can give him a small slot in our crowded schedule......!
18.
Think perhaps I might bring some gear to this thing... If anybody wants to try any of the following then give me a shout! Fender Highway One Precision (USA) Squier Vintage Modified Jazz V DHA VT1 Bass-Drive-EQ EHX Germanium Big Muff Morley Dual Bass Wah Zoom B3 Ashdown ABM500 EvoII Hartke VX 115 Hartke VX 1508 Most of it is fairly modest tbh, but if it is of any interest to anyone then let me know
Hey Joe.....I'd like to try the VMJV please, I foolishly bought a 4 string version which I hope to shift and replace with the 5 string version as I play 5 strings only!
19. "was with other headstock, now with original" So he's changed the "headstock" and suddenly it's a 1962 original? Seriously undervalued at £250 BIN I think? Ha, he's cottoned on now and and has it up for £350 BIN!
20. I've Pm'd everyone this afternoon with final details. if you have not got this then PM me please!
21. I emailed him suggesting the headstock and bridge were wrong and asking him the serial number... "hi mate yea this bass it is creamy white , and the pickups is from fender 1962 pbass usa made , it has a incredible sound ....and has nice old body.... was with other headstock!!!! but now with the original thanks if u get that bass u will be just very happy just saying..." Pickups are from a 1962 pbass usa so it must be kosher!!!!
22. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Fender-51-Precision-Telecaster-bass-guitar-road-worn-custom-Squier-neck-/271098614500?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f1ebc92e4 I think they are right, it's a very sympathetically done job showing just the right amount of wear......
