1. "so how about Sunday Nov 18th, 12.00 -4.00 pm, venue TBA but near Sherborne? "
2. The last band back in Yorks started off as a Trio (Vox, Guitar and Bass) and we decided to get a drummer. We recruited a middle aged guy who did 2 or 3 gigs, then got a blood clot in his leg ( nearly killed him) so we kept his spot open for him and used deps for 6 months from the local Leeds College of Music. Just as he returned we lost our singer and he jumped ship. So we replaced the singer and kept on using Deps from LCM. Are there any music colleges near the OP's location?
3. "I should be able to live comfortably on til the state pension kicks in." I wouldn't bet on the State Pension staying the same with the way the Con-Dems are taking things!
4. The voltage thing is a red herring, even if you got one from the US its possible to reset the voltage internally. The only downer is although in the EU you usually get a 2 year warranty, you have to send the amp back to the seller which can take longer and cost more than from your local friendly MB dealer!
5. Here's a list of names culled from this thread. It may be useful to say if you are still interested and add you name if its not on the list please? CraigplaysBass Chris Horton gafbass02 Evilundead Dominsomerset jimrs2k Tommyk Rasta 0175Westwood29 BottomE Thor
6. Not noticed any "Feelers" in the Basses for Sale section recently...have they been outlawed now?
7. Yes, I tried one out a Bass Gear in Twyford a little while ago and it sounded great and is the size of a large box of matches! I know someone who uses it with a Double Bass and he was very happy with it.
8. This head is reviewed in November's BGM( out now). Might be worth looking at it in WHS or even buying it! Gets a decent review too ( there again nothing really ever gets slated!)
9. I had a Crafter 5 string and could not get the intonation right on the B, it was always out of tune and no way to intonate. My Godin A5 is much better but do bear in mind these things don't have adjustable bridges!
10. I think its sold now, she eventually added the info too.
11. This is what os did at the last one, if this is what people want then we'll need around 20 expressions of interest.... "I organised one a couple of years ago in Shaftesbury in a local church hall. I got a local luthier in to offer advise on set ups, etc. X brought in some bits and pieces from his shop. I got a drummer and a bass player to do a quirky demo of bizare bass playing, on a Shergold Marathon 8 string, x joined in for a Uileann pipe jazz fusion jam. It was a nice afternoon, people brought their expensive and home made guitars/rigs....usual bass stuff." At the last Yorkshire Bass Bash, I organised a stand from Bass Gear Ltd, a visit from the MarkBass rep, an informative demo/clinic from Scott Devine and Geoffbassist and a charity raffle with donations from JHS,Markbass and Hartke. If you want something lower key I might be able to get a room in a pub for nowt and maybe10 or 12 bring our gear and just try it out/chat?
12. Hope they did not lose their money as it was by bank transfer and outside of paypal...
13. Yes, it's like that for me when I go to jam sessions..if I rock up with the Godin ( which has a guitar- like case) they think its a guitar. So when I say I play Bass you then have to find someone who is happy to let you play Bass with them!
14. I'm having a chat with oldslapper ( I think his name has something to do with the initiation ceremony) tomorrow so will update people on the plan. At this stage we really need around 15-20 "Ayes" ( as some will drop out on the day) so please mention this to others/ bring a friend (unless like me you live a friendless virtual existance). There is no truth in the rumour that newbies will be made to wear a badge saying "I'm a Basschat Virgin"!
15. Please visits the "Events " Thread ( no, I'm not doing a linky for you!) and give me your feedback please. Ta
16. If there's enough people around Yeovil- Sherborne-Wincanton- Castle Carey-Shaftsbury area interested ( or willing to travel from further afield from S Dorset and Someset) I 'd be prepared to organise something. I live near Sherborne so would look for a venue in that area. Obviously the size of the venue is dictated by the interest shown, and that interest needs to know when it would be so how about Sunday Nov 18th, 12.00 -4.00 pm, venue TBA but near Sherborne?
17.
I had a Squier Bronco where one pickguard screw was screwed into a hole dug so close to the edge of the control cavity that it was only a semi-circle and barely held the screw in place. Same Bronco had the G tuner rattle uncontrollably (until I shored it all up with Araldite). The whole thing was a lemon. I would go out in the morning and come back in the evening to it having retuned itself. I think it was haunted. The wood it was made out of really did not want to be a bass guitar at any rate.
Yep, those Bronco Basses must have been made by right cowboys....
18.
Okay - you forced me into it - it's a Wrongo :-) On a more serious note. These aren't copies. Copies display the legitimate manufacturer on the headstock. These are illegal fakes. Given Chinese efficiency and the fact that they aren't going to tool up just to turn out a small number, you have to wonder just how many of these are in circulation. And how many budding players are being hindered or put off. We're all quick (and right) to get uptight about MD Phillips' misadventures. This is just as bad in my book. Doubly bad, in fact, as the potential is there for MDP to start importing these and then doing a "professional" setup on them. CB
19. I see its the veryrare "-D" string version too....
20. I'd hire a crew just as the Somalian pirate skiff comes into view and you're sitting on 10 m litres of crude oil worth a few million$!
21. Not too off topic, but does anyone else enjoy peeling those double labels on the back of chutney jars etc that reveal another side of useless facts?
22. Um....it's not a Bongo ( for readers of advancing years!)
23.
.. ....the £50 Bass arrived with a £30 K & M speaker stand I didn't order
Those Christmas Elves must be busy at Thomanns...reminds me when I ordered something from them a while ago, they also enclosed a £35 DI box which I had not ordered! Naturally I insisted on returning it, as I'm sure you feel duty bound to do now......
